Are you interested in a joint award to conduct research in
Canada and Mexico? FULBRIGHT CANADA offers a unique
opportunity to promising and prominent American scholars as well

The intent of this award is to enhance collaboration among a community of scholars work-

an interdisciplinary focus are welcomed; proposals should reflect topics which would ben-
efit from a trilateral perspective and clearly demonstrate a need to spend time in both
Mexico and Canada. Grants are from 4 months to an academic year, and time should be
distributed fairly equally between Canada and Mexico.

The chair will pursue research in constitutionalism broadly construed; an interest in federalism in
particular is especially desirable but not necessary. The ability to engage with scholars and stu-
dents across methodologies – normative, empirical, intellectual-historical, jurisprudential, and for-
mal, for example – is more important than particular areas of emphasis. Sample areas of interest
include: the constitutional status of federalist arrangements, including their judicial enforceability,
their founding status, and their effects on other constitutional structures; empirical comparative stud-
ies of federalism; analytic or formal modeling of federal systems; normative research on the justifia-
bility and justifiable shape of federalism, as compared with unitary, confederal, and subsidiary mod-
els of government; the intellectual foundations of federalism, including the history of federalist
thought; multiethnic federalism; the relationship between constitutionalism and democracy or be-
tween constitutionalism and liberalism; the stability of constitutional systems; constitutional political
economy; constitutional entrenchment and judicial review; the history of constitutional thought

home to the Atlantic Network on Bioactive Compounds, the Atlantic Centre for Comparative Bio-
medical Research, and hosts the Jeanne and J. Louis Levesque Research Professorships in Nutrisci-
ences and Health. UPEI has dedicated a number of Canada Research Chairs to areas related to bio-
resources and health. The newly opened National Research Council (NRC) Institute for Nutriscience
and Health is located on campus, providing a venue where researchers from the NRC, UPEI and Ag-
riculture/Agri-food Canada work collectively to address nutriscience based approaches to health
and wellness. Charlottetown, a city of 35,000, is the capital of Canada’s smallest province, Prince
