Fuel Filter Housing, Replacement
You must read and understand the precautions andguidelines in Service Information, group 20, "GeneralSafety Practices, Engine" before performing thisprocedure. If you are not properly trained and certifiedin this procedure, ask your supervisor for trainingbefore you perform it.
RemovalNote: Ignition key must be in the OFF position. Use anapproved container to catch fuel from fuel lines and fuelfilters as they are disconnected or removed.
1Apply the parking brake and place the shift leverin neutral.

Place an approved container under the fuel filterhousing, then drain the water from the primary fuel filter.Disconnect the electrical connector for the water/fuelseparator indicator cover.

Remove the fuel lines above the secondary fuel filter fromthe fuel filter housing.

Remove the remaining fuel lines from the fuel filterhousing.
5Remove the fuel filters and water/fuel separator indicatorcover from the fuel filter housing.
6Remove the water/fuel separator indicator cover fromthe primary fuel filter.
7Disconnect the electrical connector for the sensor.

Remove the bolts and the fuel filter housing.
Note: Install new fuel filters when replacing the fuelfilter housing.
Installation1Install the bolts and the new filter housing to the side ofthe engine and tighten the bolts to 24 ± 3 Nm (18 ± 2 ft-lb).
2Connect the electrical connector for the sensor.

Apply a thin coating of clean engine oil to the gasket ofthe secondary fuel filter. Screw the fuel filter into positionand tighten 3/4 to 1 full turn after the gasket makes contactwith the fuel filter housing.

Remove and discard the old gasket from the water/fuelseparator indicator cover. Clean thoroughly. Then blowdry with filtered compressed air.

Check that the drainage hole in the lower part isnot blocked.

Apply a thin coating of clean engine oil to the surface ofthe water/fuel separator indicator cover.

Install a new gasket to the water/fuel separator indicatorcover. Install the water/fuel separator indicator cover tothe primary fuel filter.

Apply a thin coating of clean engine oil to the surface ofthe primary fuel filter, install the fuel filter and tighten1/2–3/4 turns.

Connect the fuel lines and new seals to the primary sideof the fuel filter housing.
Note: To avoid leaking fuel lines always use new seals.

Install the remaining fuel lines with new seals to thefuel filter housing.

Prime the fuel system by pumping the hand primingpump on the fuel filter housing until resistance is felt.Resistance indicates that the fuel system is full.
13Start the engine and run at low idle for about 5 minutes.Check for any fuel leaks and correct if leaks are found.
Note: The engine speed should not be increased aboveidle. Any air pockets can be forced into the cylinder headand result in the engine stopping.
14Make sure that there are no fault codes set.
