Mounts on a tractor with power take-off. Digs

a trench up to 125 cm deep, 125~225 mm

wide, recycles the soil, lays a fibre optic cable,

puts a PVC warning tape 50 cm above the

cable, and then closes the trench all in one

PRODUCT VERSATILITY &PERFORMANCE

“Trenching Train” System digs trench, conveys away spoil, layspipe or cable & backfills all in one pass at work rates of up to 100linear metres per hour in concrete or tarmac, increasing to250metres per hour in sedimentary rocks., 500 – 600metres perhour in clay soils & as fast as 2000metres per hour in very friable,loamy soils.

The machines can be used without a conveyor, to create a linear“molehill” of spoil next to the trench for blade backfilling or can beused with a conveyor to elevate spoil into trailers or site dumpersfor sportsturf drainage etc.

Robust & proven mechanical tractor P.T.O. drive ensures groundpenetration even in the toughest of geological stratas.

Epicyclical final reduction gives massive torque magnification tothe wheel & carbide teeth just where it is needed.

The addition of a laser grading system on the machine can be seento have radical long term benefits in drain longevity & outfallefficiency.

PRODUCT HISTORY:In the late 1980’s a joint venture began between M.T.

Agricultural of Braintree, Essex & M.J. Abbott of Dinton, Wiltshirein the design & build of tractor mounted, P.T.O. driven wheeltrenchers. By the late 1990’s the existing machines were becomingoutmoded & Aardvark Equipment (ex employees of M.T.Engineering), developed a new P.T.O. driven rock wheel trencher,The Rototrench R.W.T. 100 model, 1.0m max. depth with lasergrading & a cutting width of 60 - 135mm, mounted on 140 – 200 h.p.tractors.

For the first time, at the heart of this machine was an epicyclicreduction gearbox, reducing at the last moment the 1000r.p.m. tractorP.T.O. input speed to 90r.p.m. at the digging wheel drive shaft &magnifying torque to 12,000Nm, whilst retaining a maximum torqueload rating of 27,000Nm.

The first of these machines was commissioned in Spring 2002& now has over 7 years of work behind it. Fendt tractors make thebest prime mover due to their Vario (seamless/stepless) transmission& high three point linkage lift ability.

When used in conjunction with a site dumper to take the spoilaway & a trailed gravel cart to supply backfill the machine becomesthe centrepiece in a “trenching train” system, digging the trench,removing the spoil, laying the pipe or cable from the spool on thefront of the tractor & finishing off with backfill, completing the job inone pass.

The machines can be used in the sportsturf industry fordrainage & irrigation work, the utility industry for ducting, cabling& geothermal pipe work. Linear work rates vary from 100m to 600mper hour dependant on the soil type & conditions. In certain “lightloam” soil conditions the machines will work up to 2000m per hour.

Machines have been used successfully in sand/clay/loam soiltypes, slates, shales, limestones, sandstones, concrete & tarmactrenching jobs, but fight shy of working igneous granite & basaltrock strata. The design & fabrications used in the machines areextremely robust & well proven.
