CONTEXTS WHAT IS FREE SOFTWARE ?

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF FREE SOFTWARE ?

WHO CREATED FSF PHILOSOPHY?

Free software means that the software's users have freedom. (The issue is not about price.) We developed the GNU operating system so that users can have freedom in their computing.

Specifically, free software means users have the four essential freedoms:1- to run the program, 2- to study and change the program in source code form, 3- to redistribute exact copies, and4- to distribute modified versions.

We believe a program's users should be free to take advantage of them, not solely its developer.

The GNU operating system is a complete operating system made entirely of free software.

Richard Stallman, founder of the GNU Project and the free software movement, in or before 2002

The philosophy of the movement is that the use of computers should not lead to people being prevented from cooperating with each other

The main argument for the term “open source software” is that “free software” makes some people uneasy.
