    TOKYO

    Tokyo (東京 Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") is on the island of Honshu. It is the center of the Japanesegovernment and the site of The Imperial Palace.

    Tokyo is the center of business, trade, and industry of Japan and also of Asia. The city is the center ofthe largest metropolitan area in the world.

    It became the capital city of Japan in the middle of 19th century, when its name changed from "Edo"to "Tokyo". Before then, Kyoto was the capital of Japan. The Emperor of Japan, or Tenno, lived inKyoto. Edo was the place where the Tokugawa Shoguns lived. The city grew up under the control ofthe shoguns. Before then it was a small town on the sea. Edo means "the mouth of a river" inJapanese.

    Tokyo was destroyed by fires started by the Great Kantō earthquake in 1923. It was also badlydamaged by bombs during World War II. After Japan lost the war, the city was rebuilt.

    SHANGHAIShanghai is the biggest city in China and one of the world's largest cities.It had about 24,000,000 people in 2017. Right now, it is the biggest portin the world.

    For most of China's history, Shanghai was a small fishing village. The bigcities nearby were Suzhou and Hangzhou. Under the Ming and QingShanghai had a big city wall and started to grow.

    Under the Ming and the Qing, people from other countries could onlybuy and sell things with China on an island near Guangzhou.The British began selling Indian drugs to pay for all the tea and otherthings they were buying from China. In the 1840s, China tried to stopthem and the British started a war. To keep them from hurting Nanjing,the Chinese agreed to let them keep selling drugs. They also let theBritish start buying and selling things at four other cities, includingShanghai. Soon, parts of Shanghai were controlled by the UK, the US,and France. This control was ended by the Japanese during World War II.

    The Chinese Communist Party was founded in Shanghai.

    Shànghǎi is the Mandarin Chinese language means "On-the-Sea"because Shanghai used to be next to the East China Sea. Today, dirt fromthe Yangtze River has made Pudong much bigger and downtownShanghai is about 40 kilometers away from the open sea.

    NEW YORKNew York is the biggest city in the United States,located in the state of New York. Over 8 million peoplelive in it, and over 22 million people live in thebigger New York metropolitan area. It is the financialcapital of the US since it is home to the nation's stockmarket, Wall Street, and the One World Trade Center. Itis also the home of the United Nations Headquarters.The oldest part of the city, the island of Manhattan, stillhas its original Le-nape Native American name.Although Native people such as the Le-nape andCanaries had lived there for many thousands of years,New York City was first explored by Europeans in the1500s. Florentine explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano foundthe entrance to New York Harbor in the year 1524 andEnglish explorer Henry Hudson named the HudsonRiver in 1609.

    New York City was settled by Europeans from The Netherlands in 1624. The Dutch called the whole area of New York "New Nederland" and they named a fort and town on the south end of Manhattan Island New Amsterdam.

    Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil. It isthe capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

    Copacabana Beach, Ipanema Beach, Sugar LoafMountain, the statue of Christ the Redeemer,a harbor on Guanabara Bay, and Tom Jobim Airportare located in Rio de Janeiro. It has much commerceand many industries, especially textiles, food,chemicals, and metallurgy. Most of these industriesare located in the northern and western suburbs ofthe city. Rio de Janeiro also has a small rural area,near the suburb of Campo Grande, where fruitsand vegetables are grown.

    In the city of Rio there is Tijuca National Park,created in 1961. This park extends some 33 km2,between the northern and the southern parts of thecity. The district of Santa Tereza can be reached by anelectric tram from central Rio de Janeiro, crossingover the Arcos da Lapa, an aqueduct built during thecolonial period to provide water to the city.

    The city hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 2016.

    Australia is a country and sovereign state in the southern hemisphere, located in Oceania. Its capital city is Canberra, and its largest city is Sydney.

    Australia is the sixth biggest country in the world, and it is part of the Oceanic and Australasian regions.

    25 million people live in Australia, and about 80% of them live on the east coast. The continent is divided up into six states and two territories, and more than half of Australia's population lives in and around the cities on the coast of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

    Australia is a very big country, but much of the land is very dry, and the middle of the continent is mostly desert. Only the areas around the east, west and south coast have enough rain and a suitable climate for many farms and cities.

    growing in the last quarter of 2014, replacing the People Republic of China. India's literacy and wealth are also rising.

    According to New World Wealth, India is the seventh richest country in the world. However, it still has many social and economic issues like poverty and corruption. India is a founding member of the World Trade Organization, and has signed the Kyoto Protocol.

    India has the fourth largest number of spoken languages per country in the world, only behind Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Nigeria. People of many different religions live there, including the five most popular world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, and Christianity.

    London is the capital and largest city of England and of the United Kingdom. The River

    Thames flows through the city.

    London is the biggest city in Western Europe, and the world's largest financial centre.

    London is about 2000 years old. London was founded by the Romans. For a long time, London

    was a small city. All its people lived inside the walls that were built by the Romans. This area is still called the City of London. There were many villages around the city. Gradually, more people

    came to live there. Then, step by step, the villages joined together into one huge city.

    London is one of the world's most important cities for business, finance, and politics.

    It is also important for culture: media, entertainment, fashion,

    and art.

    Paris is the capital of France, and the largest city in France. It has many art museums and historical buildings. The Eiffel Tower is the most famous sight in Paris, built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889.The Louvre is a museum with very famous, old works of art, such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus of Milo. The building was built as a house for French kings. The Louvre is the third biggest museum in the world. It is the most visited art museum in the world with over 5 million people visiting it each year. The Musée d'Orsay was a train station, but it is now an art museum. Most of the art at the Musée D'Orsay was created between 1848 and 1915. This is newer than the art at the Louvre.

    Other important buildings are: Notre Dame de Paris, a major Gothic cathedral and the Basilica of Sacre-Cœur

    Quebec City is the capital ofthe Canadian province of Quebec. It is thesecond largest city in Quebec,behind Montreal. It is known for its winterfair, beautiful churches, and an old hotelcalled Château Frontenac.

    The city was established in 1608 at a FirstNation (native) Canadian place calledStadacona. People came from France to livethere. The English conquered the city in1759 during the Battle of the Plains. Thewalls made to keep the city safe are stillthere. The walls that surrounded OldQuebec are the only remaining fortified citywalls that still exist in the Americas north ofMexico. They were declared a WorldHeritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.

    MONACO

    Monaco is a microstate on the FrenchRiviera in Western Europe onthe Mediterranean Sea.

    It is the second-smallest country in theworld after the Vatican. It is the mostdensely-populated sovereign state in theworld. Monaco‘s most populatedQuartier is Monte Carlo. It was noted thatabout 30% of the population was made upof millionaires.

    Monaco is a principality governed under aform of constitutional monarchy,with Prince Albert II as Head of State.Although Prince Albert II is aconstitutional monarch, he has immensepolitical power. The House of Grimaldi hasruled Monaco, with brief interruptions,since 1297. The official language is French,but Monégasque Italian, and English arewidely spoken and understood.

    Cairo is the capital of Egypt. The city’s metropolitan area is one of the largest in Africa. Cairo is associatedwith ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis, located nearthe Nile Delta. Cairo is called “the city of a thousand minarets” for its preponderance of Islamicarchitecture. With a population of 9 million Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. An additional 9.5million inhabitants live in close proximity to the city.

    The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex.

    It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largelyintact. Egyptologists believe that the pyramid was built as a tomb over a 10- to 20-year period concludingaround 2560 BC. Initially at 146.5 meters, the Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in theworld for more than 3,800 years. Originally, the Great Pyramid was covered by limestone casing stonesthat formed a smooth outer surface; what is seen today is the underlying core structure.

    Dubai is the largest and most populous city in the United Arab Emirates on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf. It is the capital of the Emirate of Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the country.. It is a global city and business center of the Middle East. It is also a major global transport hub for passengers and cargo. Oil revenue helped accelerate the development of the city. Today, less than 5% of the emirate's revenue comes from oil. The history of human settlement in the area now defined by the United Arab Emirates is rich and complex, and points to extensive trading links between the civilizations of the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia.

    Turkey is a country inboth Europe and Asia. The area ofTurkey is about 780,000 squarekilometers.

    Turkey is a republic. There are 81provinces in Turkey. The money ofTurkey is called Turkish Lira. The capitalcity is Ankara, a city in the centralAnatolia. The cultural and economiccenter is in the European side ofIstanbul. In the past Istanbul wascalled Constantinople. The republicwas founded in 1923, after World WarI and a war of independence. Beforethat, Turkey was the core ofthe Ottoman Empire.

    Istanbul is a city on the European side of Turkey. It is the largest city in Europe by population. It was the capital city of the old Ottoman Empire until 1923. The city has been known since ancient times by the older names Byzantium and Constantinople. Being a seaport, Istanbul is the main trade center of Turkey. Its original name was Byzantion in the Greek language, known as Byzantium in the Latin language. Byzantium was originally settled as a colony by Greeks from Megara in 667 BC and named after their king, Byzas. In 196 AD, Byzantium was damaged by the Romans, and then rebuilt by the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. Constantine the Great moved the capital of the Empire there in 330 and renamed the city Constantinople, after his name.

    When the Roman Empire was later divided into two, the East Roman Empire was known as the Byzantine Empire, and its capital was in Constantinople where Hagia Sophia had been built. Although it was conquered by Crusaders at one point, it continued as one of the political, cultural, religious and economical centers of Europe until it finally fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453.

    MOSCOWMoscow is the capital and most populouscity of Russia, with 13.2 million residents withinthe city limits

    Moscow is one of Russia's federal cities. It is amajor political, economic, cultural, and scientificcenter of Russia and Eastern Europe. Moscow isthe northernmost and coldest megacity on Earth.It is home to the Ostankino Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in Europe; the FederationTower, the second-tallest skyscraper in Europe;and the Moscow International Business Center.

    In the 9th century, the Oka River was part of theVolga trade route, and the upper Volga watershedbecame an area of contact between theindigenous Finno-Ugric such as the Merya andthe expanding Volga Bulgars, Scandinavian andSlavic peoples. In the 16th and 17th centuries, thethree circular defenses were built, Kitay- gorodthe White City and the Earthen City.

    Mexico officially the United Mexican States is a countryin the southern portion of North America. It is borderedto the north by the United States; to the south and westby the Pacific Ocean; to the southeastby Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and to theeast by the Gulf of Mexico. Covering almost 2,000,000square kilometers the nation is the fifth largest countryin the Americas with an estimated population of over120 million people. Pre-Columbian Mexico dates toabout 8000 BC and is identified as one of five cradles ofcivilization and was home to manyadvanced Mesoamerican civilizations such asthe Olmec, Toltec, Teotihuacan, Zapotec, Maya,and Aztec before first contact with Europeans.

    In 1521, the Spanish Empire conquered andcolonized the territory which was administered asthe viceroyalty of New Spain. Three centuries later, theterritory became a nation state following its recognitionin 1821 after the Mexican War of Independence. TheMexican Revolution of 1910, culminated with theemergence of the country's current political system asa federal, democratic republic.

    MADRID

    Madrid is the capital of Spain and the largest city in both Madrid and Spain as a whole. The city hasalmost 3.2 million inhabitants and a metropolitan area population of approximately 6.5 million. It isthe third-largest city in the European Union.

    Madrid lies on the River Manzanares in the centre of both the country and of Madrid. It is bordered bythe autonomous municipalities of Castile and León and Castile-La Mancha. As the capital city ofSpain, seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political, economicand cultural centre of the country.

    Madrid hosts two world-famous football teams, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid. Because ofits economic output, high standard of living, and market size, Madrid is considered the leading economichub of the Iberian Peninsula and of Southern Europe.

    Barcelona

    Barcelona is a city in Spain. It is the capital and largest city of Catalonia, as well as the second mostpopulated city of Spain with a population of 1.6 million within city limit. Barcelona is located on thenortheast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, facing the Mediterranean Sea and for this reason it has amaritime Mediterranean climate.

    Barcelona is one of the most important tourist destinations in Europe, with millions of visitors everyyear. The city is famous for its 19th century modernist architecture. The best known of those buildingswas designed by Antonio Gaudì. It is the unfinished and famous church Sagrada Familia, which is thesymbol of Barcelona.

    Barcelona is also known for its tapas food, a delicious meze.

    Athens was a powerful city-state that emerged in conjunction with the development of the port of Piraeus.A center for the arts, learning and philosophy, home of Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum, it is widelyreferred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. In modern times, Athensis a large cosmopolitan metropolis and central to economic, financial, industrial, maritime, political andcultural life in Greece. In 2012, Athens was ranked the world's 39th richest city by purchasing power andthe 67th most expensive. Athens is a global city and one of the biggest economic centers in southeasternEurope. It has a large financial sector, and its port Piraeus is both the largest passenger port in Europe, andthe second largest in the world. The Municipality of Athens (also City of Athens) had a population of664,046 (in 2011) within its administrative limits, and a land area of 38.96 km2. The urban area of Athens(Greater Athens and Greater Piraeus) extends beyond its administrative municipal city limits, with apopulation of 3,090,508 (in 2011) over an area of 412 km2 (159 sq mi).

    Crete is the largest and most populous

    of the Greek islands and the fifth largest

    island in the Mediterranean Sea,

    after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus,

    and Corsica. The capital and the largest

    city is Heraklion.

    Crete forms a significant part of the

    economy and cultural heritage of

    Greece, while retaining its own local

    cultural traits . It was once the center of

    the Minoan civilization, which is the

    earliest known civilization in Europe. On

    the island of Crete there is The palace

    of Knossos. The Cretans loved games,

    food, athletics, music, and beautiful

    clothes. In bullfighting, the Minoans did

    not kill the bull, but the male fighter had

    to grab the horns of an attacking bull,

    throw himself on the back of the animal,

    and then land on the ground.

    Santorini is an island in the

    southern Aegean Sea. The

    municipality of Santorini includes

    the inhabited islands of Santorini

    and Therasia and the uninhabited

    islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia

    Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana.

    The island was the site of one of

    the largest volcanic eruptions in

    recorded history: the Minoan

    eruption, which occurred about

    3,600 years ago at the height of

    the Minoan civilization. The

    eruption left a large caldera

    surrounded by volcanic

    ash deposits hundreds of metres

    deep. A popular theory holds that

    the Thera eruption is the source of

    the legend of Atlantis.
