Impression: As I observed the school of Dr. Maria D. Pastrana High School, I found out that they have different four available learning resource center which are the science laboratory, TLE room, computer room and the library. These learning resource center are well-organized and clean. The materials here are arranged properly according to

Page 3: fs3-Episode 1

Your Analysis

1. Were the learning resources/materials arranged properly according to their functions and

characteristics?

The learning resources/ materials in Dr. Maria D. Pastrana high School were all arranged

properly according to their functions and characteristics. In computer room, the computers were

enough for the students in one section. It also well-functioned and place on the air-conditioned

room. In library, the books are well-organized that the students will easy to find what they need and

most of the books are new. Some of the students were enjoyed visiting and borrowing books

because they can easily access the information they need. They also have science laboratory that

have models of the human system, apparatuses, and television. The materials here were all well-

organized. Another is the TLE room that is well-cleaned and some of the materials like kitchen

tools are place in the cabinet. Also in the classroom, some of the teacher used manila paper,

models, lapel, chalkboard and LCD projector/ monitor for their teaching materials. It helps the

teachers to teach easily and for the students to learn effectively. They also have bulletin boards

inside the classroom that attached some information about the subject or even the personal

information of the students and another is the list of top students in the class that helps them to

improved more in their study and even in the hallway of school they have bulletin boards. These

learning resources serve as a great help for the holistic development of the students and learn how

to organize things in the most easy and meaningful way.

2. Do the guidelines and procedures facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers? Why? Why not?

The guidelines and procedures are facilitated easy access to the materials by the teachers.

In science laboratory, they posted the guidelines and procedures for the teachers to have easily

access the materials. When performing a science experiment, they follow the necessary

precautions. Some of the guidelines are the students should be asked first the permission of the

teacher before doing the science experiment, the students should use protective equipment or

even the teachers, never eat or drink inside the science laboratory, always be careful when working

with the frames and never used broken glasses. These guidelines and procedure should be

followed by the teachers and students to avoid some problems while using laboratory materials or

doing some experiments. Also, it is very important to keep us safe from some possible accidents.

In borrowing or returning the learning materials the guidelines and procedure are written in a clear

and in most understandable manner and posted in bulletin board that is why there is no need in to

ask the person in-charge about how to borrow/return the materials. The students are already

informed and know at the same time reminded by the rules and regulations as well as the

guidelines that established by the in-charge person in the leaning resources. Therefore, the

their functions. It can provide necessary information to help both students and teacher to make the teaching-learning process more interactive, interesting, am at the same time meaningful.

guidelines and procedures served as a guide for the both teacher and student when they are going

to borrow and returning the materials.

3. What are the strengths of this Learning Resource Center?

The Learning Resources Center is very useful to the learning process of the students. The

school of Dr. Maria D. Pastrana High School have four different learning resources center which

are computer room, library, science laboratory and TLE room. One of the strengths of computer

room is the computer well-functioned. Also, they have 55 available computers that enough for the

students in one group. In library, it has many available books and easy to find because it is well-

arranged. The other learning resource center helps the learning and teaching would be effective. It

will be benefited the students and teachers by easy way of learning/teaching. It is helpful to them in

their study. Also, the learning materials there are used properly according to their function and

characteristics by both students and teachers. The rooms are also well-ventilated and clean that

helps the students to feel comfortable while learning effectively. These two-learning resource

center can provide necessary information that can meet and fill the needs of the students. It can

help students to develop and enhance their potential and be motivated to learn more. The materials

provide an easy access information for both teacher and students that helps the teaching-learning

process more interactive, interesting, and meaningful. It gives students an opportunity to learn

things in their own way and enhance their ability to think critically, logically and systematically.

4. What are its weaknesses?

Even though the learning resources center is very useful to the leaning process of the

students it has weaknesses. In the school library, there are many new books that provides to help

the learner but it’s not always used by the students because people nowadays are very dependent

on the technology like computer. Also, the library room is too small for the students. If they wanted

to stay, there to read books it’s not enough space for them. Another, its often closed or not

available because the people who is in charge at the library is also a teacher. So, if the teacher has

a class she will closed the library because the students might enter the library without her. In

science laboratory, it is nice and well-cleaned but some of the laboratory apparatuses are not

available. The room is not so well-illuminate. Even the room is not air-conditioned the place is well-

ventilated. For the computer room of the school, it also nice and has fifty-five (55) available

computers that are new and well-functioned for the students. The problem is it has no internet

connection so, if the students need to gather information they can’t use it to research, to gain more

knowledge and to help them. It is more effective to have an internet connection for the students to

have good education. The learning is more interactive so they will enjoy to learn and to easily

understand the lesson. It gives the students to learn more and develop their skills in computer.

5. What suggestions can you make?

I suggest that the teachers should encourage their students to used their library school. The students should not always rely on using computers as their resource materials and they should use books sometimes. In that case, they can save their money as well as their time. Books are more convenient because it just in their school library and they can borrow it. The library room should renovate because the space is too small for the students. The space should be wider more for the students who is reading there will feel comfortable and enjoyed. The library should have school librarian that is not also a teacher to keep an eye on the school library so, if the students need to use it or borrow books it would be easy. I hope the school will provide some apparatuses

Page 5: fs3-Episode 1

that needed in the science laboratory for them to have more experiment that the students should experience. I also suggest that it should be air-conditioned room and well-illuminate to avoid accidents. For the computer room, I hope it would be available to use for the students. It should have an internet connection so that it would be easy for the students to research what they need and to have better learning. The materials in TLE room should be complete also for the students work effectively and for them not to provide the materials needed in their baking or cooking activity. The materials should maintain the cleanliness, always place on the proper cabinet and most important keep away from the students to avoid accidents.

Your Reflections

1. Which of the materials in the learning resources caught your interest the most? Why?

While I am observing, the learning resources that caught my interest the most is the

computer. The computer room is full of new and well-functioned computers. I am amazed

that the school have 55 computers. It makes me happy to know that they have many

computers because it can help the students to learn more about computers. The number of

available computers are enough for one section. The students don’t need to share in using

computer because they have a lot of computer and good for them. So, by that the students

will be enjoy to use the computer on his/her own only when they having a discussion or

activity. It also well-organize and the room is clean and air-conditioned. It will help the

students to feel comfortable and enjoy while they are studying. A good environment helps

the students to learn more. The space of the room is also wider and the students will be

comfortable in moving at the same time the chairs are enough for them.

2. Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use/operate?

As a student and future teacher, I should know how to use/operate some

gadgets/materials to help me in my study and to be prepare in my future profession. So,

one of the gadgets/materials that I already confident to use/operate is the computer. I am

confident to used/operate it because I know how to operate the computer and I used it

several times in doing some school stuff like homework, projects and at the same time

doing a report with the used of power point presentation. It helps us to make a work a lot

easier and not time consuming. Another material that I am confident in using is book. Even

though the computer is easier in searching an information about something I am also using

books to help me in my study. It helps me to saved my money because books are just

available in our school library. It is also portable to used and there are some teachers that

books are their resource in teaching.

3. Which ones do you feel need to learn more about?

As a future teacher, I should learn to know the different gadgets/materials that I will

use in my teaching. Even though I know how to use or operate a computer I feel need to

learn more about using it. Yes, I used it several times but I know there’s some techniques

that I need to learn to improve my computer skills. It is a big thing that a teacher knows

how to use a computer to improve more her teaching strategy and the student’s learning

process. In their busy schedule, it helps them to make their work a lot easier and not time

Page 6: fs3-Episode 1

consuming. It also helps them in their learning to cope the attention of their students. In

doing the presentation, the teachers can apply some effective strategy to make their

presentation good in to eye of the students. The teacher can be used animation in the text,

download a music or videos that related to the topic or anything that can cope the attention

of the students. So, that, they will enjoy to listen and participate effectively to the teacher’s

discussion.

Your Portfolio Paste an article about an example of technology gadget/material that you want to learn more about. How can this gadget/ material be useful in instruction/teaching? Computers help me to be more confident in my teaching because I can do a presentation that indicate some information. It also helps me not to consumed more time in making my teaching materials.

Top 5 Problems with Computer and Technology in Education Today Posted on November 6, 2013 by Michelle Harven Technology has been used in most schools since the ‘90s (remember CD-ROMS?), but it still has some hiccups. We weigh in on some of the most problematic issues facing the edtech world today. 5. The crutch Students are so quick to turn to the Internet to answer questions that some believe critical thinking has gone down the tube. Spelling is no longer something tested if everything is autocorrected and spell checked. This may be a larger issue of technology on our memory and brain-strength, but if we are using the Internet in schools, then kids are being taught to use Google to answer all their questions and to essentially, copy and paste their knowledge. Education needs to figure out how to use technology in a way that doesn’t replace knowledge, but reinforces it. Yet for students with disabilities or language barriers, using technology in the classroom can be less of a crutch and more of a Launchpad for understanding.

4. The crash Before it was the dog ate the homework, now it’s the computer crashed and “It was all done before it got erased!” But, this popular excuse is used because it does happen. When using the computer and all its glitches to create a project that requires hours of work, it sometimes gets erased, doesn’t transfer over correctly, doesn’t save, or for one human error or another is gone. Many technology rookies have been in this position and curse at the computer that has stolen hours. Some students struggle simply to complete work that it seems unfair to put obstacles in their way, especially when some students may not have programs or the technology at home to become familiar with it. The problem with technology glitches is also seen with online textbooks. Some students have issues accessing textbooks at home if they don’t have a large enough bandwidth. Other access problems to online materials can delay students and put them behind in class. This is one of many reasons to make sure your school has a stable, reliable cloud storage system in place.

3. The old-timer

Some teachers do not utilize the technology they’ve been given. They have been teaching for years and don’t want to incorporate something new into their time-tested lesson plans. Some schools are pushing instructors to incorporate technology into their syllabi and when it is poorly taught the technology is not used at optimal level. Any teacher given high-tech programs and expected to teach it in the classroom deserves proper training, and sometimes it isn’t provided. But all hope is not lost. We interviewed a few college students, and they had some helpful input for teachers to improve their use of technology in the classroom. 2. The Facebook And Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etcetera. Putting a computer in front of a high school student and expecting them NOT to go on Facebook or any other distracting non-school related site is kind of a joke. And it isn’t just the younger students that are in danger of losing focus; even graduate students can hardly help themselves to online distractions in the classroom. When keeping students excited and focused on the lesson at hand is one of the hardest task a teacher faces, a computer can be one of the most detrimental things to that student’s learning. Un less, of course, they’re using Facebook for collaboration.

Page 7: fs3-Episode 1

1. The Band-Aid The idea that technology can save education may have some truth in it, but it may be problematic to treat all our educational issues with technology. In 2007, Education Week reported on a major federal study that found, “no difference in academic achievement between students who used the technology in their classrooms and youngsters who used other methods.” If students aren’t proficient in their studies to begin with and technology is used incorrectly, a whole mess of problems could arise. What’s wrong with the Band-Aid thinking is that technology needs to be planned out into schools in a very precise manner in order for it to be effective, and to cover all of education’s problems in a Band-Aid may further aggravate the issues.
