Page 1 of 3 FS20 Firestop Compound Installation Instructions FS20 Firestop Compound is used to seal service penetration openings in floors and masonry walls against the spread of fire for up to 4 hours fire protection. When used in floor openings it is capable of taking light foot traffic (e.g. for maintenance purposes). Plastic services will need to be fitted with intumescent products as specified below. General 1) Remove all loose material and dust from opening of fire barrier. 2) Fit Permanent Shuttering (50mm thick) or temporary plywood / similar shuttering. 3) Fit FS24 Firestop Collars to all plastic pipes. Ensure that the unit sits on top of the shuttering. After curing, remove the shuttering to reveal bottom edge of collar. Important: Not exposing the edge of the collar can lead to product failure. 4) Remove electrical trunking lids and fill inside with FS22 Firestop Pillows. 5) Remove any pipe insulation where it passes through the depth of the FS20 Firestop Compound. 6) For chilled water pipes, remove pipe insulation where it passes through the seal and replace with an Insulated Fire Sleeve, protruding 15mm each side of the seal. Using foil tape, reinstate the vapour seal. 7) Ensure that ventilation ductwork is fitted with builders work frames and that they are completely sealed within the FS20 Firestop Compound. 8) If unsure about the suitability of any service type, please consult our technical sales office for advice. 9) Add the compound to clean water and mix either by hand or with a power mixer in the recommended ratios. Installation in Floor Openings 1) Set the permanent / temporary shuttering into the opening and between the services ensuring a tight fit so that once the required depth of compound. 2) Reinforcement will be required if the open area (e.g. clear of any services) exceeds both the following dimensions: Thickness of Firestop Compound Area Free of Services 75mm 500mm x 500mm 100mm 750mm x 750mm 3) Reinforcing requires 12mm diameter bars placed at a maximum of 200mm centres across the short span only. The bars may be either recessed into the surrounding structure by a minimum of 50mm on both sides or supported on an angle securely fixed to the structure, all positioned approximately 30mm above the bottom surface of the compound to ensure adequate fire protection from below. 4) When pouring, add 1 bag of FS20 Firestop Compound to 12 litres water (2.5:1). Do not mix weaker than 2:1. 5) Mix and pour FS20 Firestop Compound until the required thickness is achieved.

FS20 Firestop Compound Installation Instructions FS20 Firestop Compound is used to seal service penetration openings in floors and masonry walls against the spread of fire for up to 4 hours fire protection. When used in floor openings it is capable of taking light foot traffic (e.g. for maintenance purposes). Plastic services will need to be fitted with intumescent products as specified below. General

1) Remove all loose material and dust from opening of fire barrier.

6) For chilled water pipes, remove pipe insulation where it passes through the seal and replace with an Insulated

Fire Sleeve, protruding 15mm each side of the seal.

Installation in Floor Openings

1) Set the permanent / temporary shuttering into the opening and between the services ensuring a tight fit so that once the required depth of compound.

2) Reinforcement will be required if the open area (e.g. clear of any services) exceeds both the following dimensions:

Thickness of Firestop Compound Area Free of Services 75mm 500mm x 500mm 100mm 750mm x 750mm

3) Reinforcing requires 12mm diameter bars placed at a maximum of 200mm centres across the short span only.

6) Existing compound installations can be easily drilled or sawn to allow the provision of additional or replacement services and subsequently resealed.

Installation in Masonry Wall Openings (Small)

1) When trowelling, add 1 bag of FS20 Firestop Compound to 10 litres water (3:1) - Guide only, varies with site conditions.

2) Apply FS20 Firestop Compound as specified.

3) Trowel the FS20 Firestop Compound, starting at the base of the opening, ensuring the correct thickness of material is installed. Work progressively towards the top of the opening until the barrier is complete.

Installation in Masonry Wall Openings (Large)

Method 1 1) Make up timber mould and cast FS20 Firestop Compound into bricks to the required depth (see technical data sheet fire for rating). Allow to cure for a minimum period of 1 hour. 2) Make up trowelling grade by adding 1 bag of FS20 Firestop Compound to 10 litres water (3:1) - Guide only, varies

with site conditions.

3) Trowel the FS20 Firestop Compound, starting at the base of the opening and build compound bricks into the wall. Work progressively towards the top of the opening until the barrier is complete.

Method 2

1) Mechanically fix timber / ply shuttering to both faces of the wall.

2) Mix and pour FS20 Firestop Compound into shutter, add 1 bag of Compound to 12 litres water (2.5:1). Do not mix weaker than 2:1.

3) Build up in layers. Health & Safety Instructions General: FS20 Firestop Compound is manufactured from a mixture of gypsum, inorganic reinforcing fibres,

lightweight fillers and special additives. Dust from any fine powder will, if inhaled over a prolonged period constitute a health hazard. The shuttering panel will generate dust when it is cut or handled which could constitute a health hazard.

Eye Contact: FS20 Firestop Compound and the Shuttering Panel dust may cause irritation or inflammation. Goggles

should be worn where there is a risk of dust or fibres entering the eyes. If compound or dust from the shuttering panel enters the eye, hold the eyelids apart and irrigate with clean fresh water for five minutes.

Skin Contact: The product may cause irritation to sensitive skins. Protective overalls and gloves should be worn to

minimise exposure. If irritation occurs then wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. Inhalation: Inhalation may cause irritation. Ensure adequate ventilation when cutting, and wear a dust mask

complying with BS2091 or BS6016. Disposal: Remove waste for Firestop Compound and Shuttering Panel debris and place in strong plastic bags.
