Hard to believe we are already nearly five weeks in! It was really nice to see so many of you at our Academic Awards Night. It was such a pleasure to recognize all 415 students that earned a 3.5 GPA or better last year. The high level of academic success at FMHS comes from a long tradition of academic excellence built over many years by our staff, parents and student body. Advance Placement a Tremendous Success: I would also like to celebrate the tremendous success of our students and staff that participated in advance placement courses last year. 898 AP Exams were administered. 69% of our students received a qualifying score of 3+ which exceeds both the state (62%) and global average (60 %) and is an all-time high for FMHS. FMHS AP Scholars 2015-16 AP Scholars Averaged 3+ on 3 or more exams 32 AP Scholars with Honor Averaged 3.25+ on 4 or more exams 26 AP Scholars with Distinction Averaged 3.5 on 5 or more exams 35 National AP Scholars Averaged 4+ on 8 or more exams 9 Student Access Time: Our schedule affords students the opportunity to have access to their teachers, complete home- work, meet in clubs, participate in enrichment activities and hold study sessions every Wednesday and Thursday from 10:20am-11:05am. A Message From Principal Todd McClaskey

Greetings Wildcat Friends and Family

Itrsquos been a smooth start to a great year at Fruita Monument Hard to believe we are already nearly five weeks in It was really nice to see so many of you at our Academic Awards Night It was such a pleasure to recognize all 415 students that earned a 35 GPA or better last year The high level of academic success at FMHS comes from a long tradition of academic excellence built over many years by our staff parents and student body

Advance Placement a Tremendous Success I would also like to celebrate the tremendous success of our students and staff that participated in advance placement courses last year 898 AP Exams were administered 69 of our students received a qualifying score of 3+ which exceeds both the state (62) and global average (60 ) and is an all-time high for FMHS

Colorado Western Slope College FairOn October 2 2016 from 11am to 2pm Aspen High School will sponsor the Colorado Western Slope College Fair This event is open to all interested students Over 250 schools from throughout the United States will be represented including many of the big name Ivy League institutions Breakout sessions addressing a number of topics will also be available to students and parents Free transportation by bus will be available for interested students The bus will leave from GJHS at 8am and return by 5pm Seating is limited to 20 students and available on a first come first serve basis Students can sign up in the FMHS Counseling Office beginning Sept 12th A list of attending colleges and breakout sessions is available on httpwwwcwscollegefairorg

If your sondaughter is an athlete and has aspirations of playing in college sports make sure they you are looking into the NCAA Clearinghouse This should be started the second semester of their junior year at the earliest If you start later then itrsquos harder to get correction made Students can register with the clearinghouse following their junior year

Welcome to another year of Wildcat Music Mrs Lavadie Ms Hanley and I are all excited to be working with very talented and positive young adults this fall I am also excited to welcome student teacher Joseph Sanchez from CMU to our team We all have great plans for your students this school year

The Marching Band is in full swing and ready to get out there and show off all of their hard work The 2016 program is entitled ldquoHow I wonderhelliprdquo and will certainly evoke a wide range of musical emotions You just might see some stars on the field September is full of performances for the Marching Band with 2 football games the Dist 51 Valley Bands Extravaganza 913 at 730 pm at Stocker Stadium and the Fruita Fall Festival Parade on September 24th Our first competition is right around the corner the Colorado West Marching Invitational on September 24th We will compete in the field show during the afternoon at Stocker Stadium The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble are well on their way to a great year of music making with their first performance on November 2nd at 700pm at The Historic Avalon Theatre We hope to see you there

FCCLA in San DiegoThree chapter members from Fruita Monument earned their way to National Family Career and Community Leaders of American National Conference held in San Diego California July 2-8 2016 Cody Baker Bryce Hahn Kaleigh Moschetti accompanied by advisor Cheryl Tennant were privileged to take this trip

Cody Baker describes the trip in the following way ldquoWhen thinking back to the beautiful ocean view the fresh and vi-brant food scene and the relaxing breeze that descended on us every evening in sunny San Diego our minds always refer to the ecstatic rush that we felt as our plane touched down in Californiardquo

FCCLA has provided Fruita Monument students with many new and fantastic opportunities For instance winning the state Culinary Arts STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) event competition creating new bonds and a lasting friendships and most importantly as Kaleigh Moschetti would say ldquoScholarshipsrdquo

Bryce Hahn added that it was the best experience of his life because of the many new friends he met and the amazing experiences he had in San Diego

FCCLA opened new doors for our group and inspired a passion that we value and want to delve deeper in Nationals was truly a blessing and we were flattered with the opportunity to participate

bull I (we) grant permission to Mesa County Valley School District 51 and Bank of Colorado representatives to include my (our) childrsquos artwork in a popular vote competition for the Bank of Colorado CALENDAR CONTEST I (we) understand there will be several selection processes in which the top art entries for grades K-12 will be decided by popular vote The final selection of student artwork will be displayed for public view and voting (1 vote per person) at the Bank of Colorado 200 Grand Ave Grand Junction CO as well as Bank of Colorado Facebook page where you can ldquoLikerdquo (vote) for your favorites in each grade level

bull I (we) will be notified during the week of October 10th if my (our) childrsquos artwork is one of the top three finalists of their grade level for the 2017 Bank of Colorado Calendar If my child is one of the three finalists I (we) agree to permit a photograph of my (our) child and information about hisher age and school to be printed in the calendar and used for mediasocial media (Facebook) promotions related to the Calendar Contest

DEADLINE Entries can be turned into Bank of Colorado located at 200 Grand Avenue

no later than 500 pm Friday October 7th

NEW ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS ART PIECES K-8 Any flat medium the teacherstudent

would like to pursue Drawings paintings collage etc No computer images sculptures ceramics

Photoshop or photo prints The artwork must be the studentrsquos own original work with no

additional assistance by parent or teacher

ART PIECES GRADES 9-12 Must be studentrsquos own original work with no additional assistance

by parent or teacher Artwork can be anything that the student has created in the following

Ceramics drawing painting photography printmaking etc If artwork is in ceramic or sculpture

form the student must take a photo of the artwork and meet the art requirements listed below

All completed art pieces submitted by K-12 need to be an image size of 85rdquo x 11rdquo The art must

be matted on construction paper (sufficient for art display) All submitted works must be

accompanied by the ldquoEntry Formrdquo (attached to back of piece) signed by both student amp parent

DISQUALIFICATIONS Automatic disqualification if art piece is anything other than

Horizontal image size of 85rdquo x 11rdquo landscape Matted on construction paper (for art display

purposes) No names or initials are to be drawn on the front of the art piece itself Artwork

must not be offensive in language or image Art piece will be disqualified if student and parent

information signatures are missing

POPULAR VOTE Finalistsrsquo artwork will be on display at Bank of Colorado 200 Grand Avenue

for popular vote One vote per person Finalistsrsquo artwork will also be displayed on Bank of

Colorado Facebook Page 1 ldquolikerdquo (vote) per person where the general public is encouraged to

ldquoLikerdquo their favorites Be sure to let family and friends know that they can vote on the Facebook

page especially those family and friends who live out of town and are not able to get into the

Welcome to another year of Wildcat Music Mrs Lavadie Ms Hanley and I are all excited to be working with very talented and positive young adults this fall I am also excited to welcome student teacher Joseph Sanchez from CMU to our team We all have great plans for your students this school year

The Marching Band is in full swing and ready to get out there and show off all of their hard work The 2016 program is entitled ldquoHow I wonderhelliprdquo and will certainly evoke a wide range of musical emotions You just might see some stars on the field September is full of performances for the Marching Band with 2 football games the Dist 51 Valley Bands Extravaganza 913 at 730 pm at Stocker Stadium and the Fruita Fall Festival Parade on September 24th Our first competition is right around the corner the Colorado West Marching Invitational on September 24th We will compete in the field show during the afternoon at Stocker Stadium The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble are well on their way to a great year of music making with their first performance on November 2nd at 700pm at The Historic Avalon Theatre We hope to see you there

FCCLA in San DiegoThree chapter members from Fruita Monument earned their way to National Family Career and Community Leaders of American National Conference held in San Diego California July 2-8 2016 Cody Baker Bryce Hahn Kaleigh Moschetti accompanied by advisor Cheryl Tennant were privileged to take this trip

Cody Baker describes the trip in the following way ldquoWhen thinking back to the beautiful ocean view the fresh and vi-brant food scene and the relaxing breeze that descended on us every evening in sunny San Diego our minds always refer to the ecstatic rush that we felt as our plane touched down in Californiardquo

FCCLA has provided Fruita Monument students with many new and fantastic opportunities For instance winning the state Culinary Arts STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) event competition creating new bonds and a lasting friendships and most importantly as Kaleigh Moschetti would say ldquoScholarshipsrdquo

Bryce Hahn added that it was the best experience of his life because of the many new friends he met and the amazing experiences he had in San Diego

The Marching Band is in full swing and ready to get out there and show off all of their hard work The 2016 program is entitled ldquoHow I wonderhelliprdquo and will certainly evoke a wide range of musical emotions You just might see some stars on the field September is full of performances for the Marching Band with 2 football games the Dist 51 Valley Bands Extravaganza 913 at 730 pm at Stocker Stadium and the Fruita Fall Festival Parade on September 24th Our first competition is right around the corner the Colorado West Marching Invitational on September 24th We will compete in the field show during the afternoon at Stocker Stadium The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble are well on their way to a great year of music making with their first performance on November 2nd at 700pm at The Historic Avalon Theatre We hope to see you there

FCCLA in San DiegoThree chapter members from Fruita Monument earned their way to National Family Career and Community Leaders of American National Conference held in San Diego California July 2-8 2016 Cody Baker Bryce Hahn Kaleigh Moschetti accompanied by advisor Cheryl Tennant were privileged to take this trip

Cody Baker describes the trip in the following way ldquoWhen thinking back to the beautiful ocean view the fresh and vi-brant food scene and the relaxing breeze that descended on us every evening in sunny San Diego our minds always refer to the ecstatic rush that we felt as our plane touched down in Californiardquo

FCCLA has provided Fruita Monument students with many new and fantastic opportunities For instance winning the state Culinary Arts STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) event competition creating new bonds and a lasting friendships and most importantly as Kaleigh Moschetti would say ldquoScholarshipsrdquo

Bryce Hahn added that it was the best experience of his life because of the many new friends he met and the amazing experiences he had in San Diego

The CALENDAR PROJECT is sponsored through Bank of Colorado for students in Mesa County School District 51 schools

bull I (we) grant permission to Mesa County Valley School District 51 and Bank of Colorado representatives to include my (our) childrsquos artwork in a popular vote competition for the Bank of Colorado CALENDAR CONTEST I (we) understand there will be several selection processes in which the top art entries for grades K-12 will be decided by popular vote The final selection of student artwork will be displayed for public view and voting (1 vote per person) at the Bank of Colorado 200 Grand Ave Grand Junction CO as well as Bank of Colorado Facebook page where you can ldquoLikerdquo (vote) for your favorites in each grade level

bull I (we) will be notified during the week of October 10th if my (our) childrsquos artwork is one of the top three finalists of their grade level for the 2017 Bank of Colorado Calendar If my child is one of the three finalists I (we) agree to permit a photograph of my (our) child and information about hisher age and school to be printed in the calendar and used for mediasocial media (Facebook) promotions related to the Calendar Contest

bull Although every effort will be made to return all entries the Bank of Colorado and Mesa County Valley School District 51 are not responsible for lost or damaged works The top three finalist of each grade level will be chosen by the Calendar Contest Judging Committee The Calendar Contest Judging Committee has the right to refuse any entry

bull A reception will be held Wednesday November 2 2016 600 pm to announce the winners and award prizes

bull Bank of Colorado employees their families and children of employees are exempt from the Calendar Contest

Contest open to ALL students in Grades K-12 in Mesa County Valley School District 51

schools The first place winner from each grade level will get their artwork featured on a page

of the calendar as well as receive $300 deposited in a Bank of Colorado Savings Account 2nd

place winners receive $200 deposited in a Bank of Colorado Savings Account and 3rd place

winners receive $100 deposited in a Bank of Colorado Savings Account A reception will be

held Wednesday November 2nd at 600 pm 200 Grand Avenue Bank of Colorado lobby to

announce the winners and award prizes

DEADLINE Entries can be turned into Bank of Colorado located at 200 Grand Avenue

no later than 500 pm Friday October 7th

NEW ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS ART PIECES K-8 Any flat medium the teacherstudent

would like to pursue Drawings paintings collage etc No computer images sculptures ceramics

Photoshop or photo prints The artwork must be the studentrsquos own original work with no

additional assistance by parent or teacher

ART PIECES GRADES 9-12 Must be studentrsquos own original work with no additional assistance

by parent or teacher Artwork can be anything that the student has created in the following

Ceramics drawing painting photography printmaking etc If artwork is in ceramic or sculpture

form the student must take a photo of the artwork and meet the art requirements listed below

All completed art pieces submitted by K-12 need to be an image size of 85rdquo x 11rdquo The art must

be matted on construction paper (sufficient for art display) All submitted works must be

accompanied by the ldquoEntry Formrdquo (attached to back of piece) signed by both student amp parent

DISQUALIFICATIONS Automatic disqualification if art piece is anything other than

Horizontal image size of 85rdquo x 11rdquo landscape Matted on construction paper (for art display

purposes) No names or initials are to be drawn on the front of the art piece itself Artwork

must not be offensive in language or image Art piece will be disqualified if student and parent

information signatures are missing

POPULAR VOTE Finalistsrsquo artwork will be on display at Bank of Colorado 200 Grand Avenue

for popular vote One vote per person Finalistsrsquo artwork will also be displayed on Bank of

Colorado Facebook Page 1 ldquolikerdquo (vote) per person where the general public is encouraged to

ldquoLikerdquo their favorites Be sure to let family and friends know that they can vote on the Facebook

page especially those family and friends who live out of town and are not able to get into the

bank to vote
