Parents’ Evenings

Your child should have brought home a Parents Evening letter offering appointment slots for Wednesday 11th or Thursday 12th March (N- Y5). Times will be given on a first come first served basis.

Packed Lunches

As a healthy school we try to encourage healthy packed lunches. As well as this, due to allergies we are also a nut free school, so Nutella is not allowed. We try to discourage sugary snacks and sweets and fizzy drinks have never been allowed. The following website give loads of ides about healthy packed lunches. https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes

Our school food policy which is on the website outlines guidelines for Front Street packed lunches. Here is a small section from that.

· At least one portion of fruit and one portion of vegetables every day.

· Meat, fish or other source of non-dairy protein (e.g. lentils, kidney beans, chickpeas, hummus or falafel) every day

· A starchy food such as any type of bread, pasta, rice, couscous, noodles, potatoes or other type of cereals every day aim for wholegrain varieties.

· Dairy food such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, fromage frais, soya products everyday

· Only water, pure fruit juice, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, smoothies, yoghurt or milk drinks are permitted

· If a pudding is included, we ask that it is fruit based, this is in line with the fruit-based pudding that children with school meals receive, examples are- fruit salads or tinned fruit with yoghurt, low fat yoghurts, fruity rice puddings, fruit smoothies and fruit-based crumbles

· Savoury crackers or breadsticks served with fruit, vegetables or dairy food

Packed lunches should not include:

· Snacks such as crisps should be included only occasionally (no more than twice a week). Instead, seeds, vegetables and fruit (with no added sugar or fat).

· Confectionery such as chocolate bars, chocolate-coated biscuits should be included only if there is also a balance of fruit/vegetables.

· Chocolate spread sandwiches

· Sweets and chewing gum.

· Meat products such as sausage roll, individual pies, corned meat and sausage/chipolatas should be included only occasionally (no more than twice a week)

· Fizzy or sugary drinks.

School Uniform

Our children are always a credit to you wearing Front Street uniform. However, lately a few pairs of coloured/white flashed trainers and sparkly boots have started to make an appearance. Can I remind you that children should be wearing plain black shoes unless of course it is snowing. Thankyou for your cooperation.

Dance Festival

If your child is participating in the Dance Festival, please send in the consent form by next 4th March so we can check sizes required for the T-Shirts.

Eco Schools

We are now part of the largest educational programme on the planet - joining 52,000 schools and 19.5 million students across the world, to inspire the next generation and make a significant environmental difference.

This year, we have signed up to become an Eco School and work towards the internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag award. Miss Hoult is the Eco School co-ordinator and will work with the eco team throughout the year.

Last term we achieved the Bronze award and are currently working towards the Silver award where we need to show that Environmental issues have been covered in at least three areas of our school curriculum.

Look out for our displays when you attend Parent Meetings this half term.

Education for sustainability is essential, as the Government has set a target for all schools to be sustainable by 2020. Front Street Primary is a Rights Respecting School and the Eco-Team links very closely with this, encouraging children to be pro-active in improving our environment.

Year 6

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended the SATs information meeting and drop-in this morning. If anyone has any questions, then please contact the Year 6 team.

Booster Club – If your child has signed up for Wednesday Booster club, they should attend every week. If for any reason they cannot attend, please inform school either via Dojo, phone or a note in their planner.

Leavers Hoodies are now available to purchase online directly through Mick Martin at:

https://www.mickmartinpromotions.co.uk/school-uniform/front-street-primary

Closing date to order (if you choose to) is Friday the 17th April 2020.

There has been a slight increase on last year’s prices, children's sizes are £15.49 and adults’ sizes are £20.39 (including vat).

When you order please leave a comment with how you would like your child's name to appear. If you don't order a hoody and have completed a permission slip, the name will be printed as first name and surname initial (e.g. John D).

Hoodies will all be delivered to school together and given out at the end of SAT's. In order to keep the prices as low as they can, the hoodies are printed in a bulk order so please be extra careful with the size and colour you order as there would be large extra fees if you needed a one off re-print.Some sample sizes will be delivered to the school office for children to try on, the office will put this in the newsletter once they have them available.
