council vote traumaA DUP politician who survived anIRA assassination attempt told lastnight how he fears for his health overthe distress caused by his councilcolleagues urging his attemptedkillers release.

Sammy Brush has been left reelingafter fellow members of his council

chamber passed a motion in support offreeing republican Gerry McGeough.

Last week Dungannon and SouthTyrone Borough Council called for therelease of McGeough, who was jailedin February last year for the 1981attempted murder bid on Mr Brush.

Last night Mr Brush, 70, told theNews Letter: It has really affected methis week. I have been with the doctorand had to double my medication for

blood pressure because it went up skyhigh. I am a diabetic and my bloodsugar went out of control as well.

So I can tell you it has seriouslyannoyed me.

Now I have been through thewhole shooting and then the courtcase and then to nd out my council

colleagues support the man who shotme. It is almost unbelievable.
