Many of us are taught that there is no such thing as sin and that there is only positive and negative karma. When we read our original Hindu writings of the Vedas and Upanishads, they teach about sin, about heaven, about the mouth of death, hell, salvation from hell (Mukti) and one exclusive way of salvation through the Purush Prajapati. Our first Hindu writings: the Vedas date from around 1800 to 1400 B.C. We find this beautiful prayer in the Brhad Aranyaka Upanisad From the unreal lead me to the real, From darkness lead me to light, From death lead me to immortality.

OUR Vedas tell us

The theme in the Rig Veda the Upanishads is the nature and purpose of the Purush Prajapati and his supreme sacrifice. (Purush = Man, Prajapati = Supreme Creator - translated from Sanskrit “the Lord of all creation who became man”). (Sathpathbrahmana 10.2.2.1_2; Rg Ved Purushasukta 10:19)

The Purush Prajapati is the one and only way to eternal life. “Nanyah pantha vidyate-ayanaya”. (Yajur Veda 31:18)

The Supreme Creator took a perfect human body and offered it up as a self sacrifice. “Nishkalanka Purusha”

(Brihad Aranyak Upanishad 1.2.8)

Page 4: From the unreal lead me to the real, From darkness lead me ... · From darkness lead me to light, ... The Supreme Creator took a perfect human body and offered it up as a self sacrifice.

He is the only sinless human being, and only in knowing him does one obtain immortality. (Chandogya Upanishad 1.6:6,7)

After giving Himself as the ultimate sacrifice, He resurrects. (Brihad Aranyak Upanishad 3.9.28.4_5; Kathopanishad 3:15)

By his resurrection, the Purush Prajapati conquered death and released sin's stranglehold on mankind. We are delivered from ‘karma’ and the ‘Mouth of Death’.Acknowledging the sacrifice of the perfect Purush Prajapatiimparts eternal life. (Kathopanishad 1,3.8,11)

He will return to earth only once more.

He was symbolized by a spotless lamb, which was the animal commonly sacrificed. (Maddyandiniya Sathpathbrahmana III)

Animal Sacrifice is still common practise in the Hindu Culture

Page 5: From the unreal lead me to the real, From darkness lead me ... · From darkness lead me to light, ... The Supreme Creator took a perfect human body and offered it up as a self sacrifice.

1. The sacrifice should be blameless

2. A creeping plant from the forest should be weaved and put on his head

3. It should be tied tight to the sacrificial pillar

4. Its four legs should be nailed and blood should be shed

5. The cloth that covers the animal should be shared by four priests

6. Its bones should not be broken

7. It should be given some wine

8. After the sacrifice it should return back to life

9. Its meat should be eaten.

If we can discover which person in history gave himself as a self-sacrifice and afterwards resurrected, according to the nine points of sacrifice as described in the Vedas, then we discover who this Purush Prajapati is and subsequently, according to our Hindu scriptures, we have found Mukti, the only true way of salvation and we have discovered the

core of our Hindu faith.

From the Vedas we can summarize the nine ways to recognize the sacrifice of the Purush Prajapati:

Page 6: From the unreal lead me to the real, From darkness lead me ... · From darkness lead me to light, ... The Supreme Creator took a perfect human body and offered it up as a self sacrifice.

1. THE SACRIFICE SHOULD BE BLAMELESS –“he was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)

Jesus’ judge said , “I find no fault in him.” (John 19:4)

2. A CREEPING PLANT FROM THE FOREST SHOULD BE WEAVED AND PUT ON HIS HEAD – “the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head.” (John 19:2)

3. IT SHOULD BE TIED TIGHT TO THE SACRIFICIAL PILLAR –“when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.” (Matthew 27:26)

First tied for scourging and then crucified.

4. ITS FOUR LEGS SHOULD BE NAILED AND BLOOD SHOULD BE SHED – “they were come to the place, which iscalled Calvary, there they crucified him.” (Luke 23:33)

They pierced my hands and my feet” (Psalms 22:16)

“a soldier with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” (John 19:34) –“this is my blood which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)

5. THE CLOTH THAT COVERS THE ANIMAL SHOULD BE SHARED BY FOUR PRIESTS -“They took his garment and made four parts to every soldier a part.” (John 19:23)

Looking across history we find one person who fulfilled the prophecies of the Vedas and Upanisads.

Page 7: From the unreal lead me to the real, From darkness lead me ... · From darkness lead me to light, ... The Supreme Creator took a perfect human body and offered it up as a self sacrifice.

6. ITS BONES SHOULD NOT BE BROKEN – “He keeps all his bones: not one of them is broken.” (Psalms 34:20) ”when they saw he was dead already, they brake not his legs.” (John 19:33)

7. IT SHOULD BE GIVEN SOME WINE - “that the scripture might be fulfilled,* he says, I thirst. . . they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:28)

8. AFTER THE SACRIFICE IT SHOULD RETURN BACK TO LIFE –“The angel answered, 'I know that you seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. . . go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead;‘” (John 19:28-30; Mark 16:6;

Luke 24:6; John 20)

9. ITS MEAT SHOULD BE EATEN. – “and the bread that I will give is my flesh (John 6:51) . . . Jesus took bread,. . and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

(1Corinthians 11:23,24)

*'THAT THE SCRIPTURE MIGHT BE FULFILLED'THIS REFERS TO JUDAIC SCRIPTURES, THE HINDU SCRIPTURES OF THE VEDAS AND UPANISADS, AND BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES.

Lord Jesus fulfilled all the nine characteristics for the sacrifice. Hence He is the core and heart of the Hindu faith and scriptures.
