From the Principal … School Contributions – This week students will bring home school contribution letters. This year we are asking K-6 parents to pay $70 per student. All schools request a contribution from parents each year to supplement existing funding and provide additional resources and teaching aids for students across K-6.The levy covers additional classroom and school resources for students which would otherwise not be possible, including the purchase and installation of new Technology (laptops, iPads, interactive whiteboards and new software and apps) and air conditioners in every classroom. We would greatly appreciate if parents could finalise all payments as soon as possible in order for us to purchase all additional equipment for the 2018 school year. Assessment Books – All Kindergarten students and new students to our school require an assessment book. This book will follow students from Kindergarten through to Year 6, keeping a well-documented record of their writing improvement and progression throughout primary school, as well as important assessment data which teachers will be able to track and use each year. The assessment writing book will form a crucial part of all students learning and development, and will be used consistently in every classroom across the school. All students will require an assessment book. The cost of the assessment book is $15 for Kindergarten – Year 4 students, and $10 for new students to Year 5 and 6. PSSA Payments – Our students participated in the first round of 2018 PSSA last Friday. It was pleasing to see most students had their money in to the front office before Wednesday afternoon. However, there were still a number of students wanting to pay on Thursday and Friday morning. As stated previously, all PSSA money must be paid by Wednesday afternoon each week. This includes online payments, which must be done before 5pm each Wednesday. Students who have not paid for PSSA by 5pm Wednesday afternoon will be unable to attend. Absences – If a student is away from school for any particular reason, it is a requirement that parents provide a written reason within 3 days. This can be done either through a handwritten note to the classroom teacher or through the Skoolbag app. Afternoon Collection – I am becoming increasingly concerned at the number of students who are being asked to wait across the road at Allambie oval for parents who are arriving late of an afternoon. This is also the case for students waiting outside the school gates. There have been a number of occasions where students have not been collected until 3.20 – 3.30pm. Our number one concern is the safety and wellbeing of our students. Asking students to wait unsupervised is extremely dangerous. The executive team will be monitoring student collection after school over the next few weeks and contacting parents who continue to ask students to wait across the road or outside the school gates of an afternoon. Congratulations – As reported in 2017, Miss Vella was nominated for an award as part of our Fairfield Network of schools from our School Director. Last week Miss Vella received her award at a presentation afternoon held in Fairfield. We are very proud to have such an amazing staff member who demonstrates her passion for teaching on a daily basis, continually striving to improve the learning outcomes for students. On behalf of the staff, students and community, we say congratulations. Sport House Captains for 201 8 Congratulation to the following students who have been voted.
