Community Consultation 2016 We are conducting a consultation with our community prior to reviewing our Strategic Plan.

We have developed a survey based on the recent public consultation on the Education Act 1989 which took place at the end of last year. That consultation identified the following seven most frequently mentioned goals for education:

• Student success and achieving individual potential• Preparation for work and future life • Connection to others and good citizenship • Resilience, determination, confidence, creativity and critical

thinking• Being inclusive of all students • Valuing cultural knowledge and identity, recognition of the

Treaty of Waitangi and Te Reo Māori • Social skills and the ability to form good relationships.

A link to this survey will be emailed to you in the next week. Please respond – your thoughts are important to us.

We are holding a focus meeting on Saturday 3 September from 9.30am to 12.00 noon, and we would welcome your attendance and contributions to the discussions. If you intend to present at the focus meeting, please email [email protected]

Hungry Children Poverty is an issue all too common in South Auckland today. Too many children in your town are going hungry, and too many people are not helping when they could. Children at our school are going hungry. What if this was you, and no one tried to help? So what are you going to do about this?

Our Year 12 Social Studies class are doing our part to help by collecting non-perishable items and personal hygiene products to donate to the Papakura food bank. We will be going around collecting from tutor groups each morning. The tutor group that brings the most will win a prize for the whole class. Will you do your part to donate to our cause?

Baby BeaniesTaryn Wiggin 12AHR has been making baby beanies that will be donated the Papakura Maternity Hospital and is in need of more material. If you have any ribbing or soft stretch fabric suitable for babies, she would be very grateful. The material can be dropped off at the school’s Front Office.

GROUP PHOTO ORDERS by 9 September 2016

By Monday if your student had a group photo taken, they should have received a ‘Shoot Key’ from their Tutor Teacher. Using the unique code photos can be ordered online. There is a small supply of order envelopes at the Student Office if you would rather order that way.

Rhythmic GymnasticsCarlene Smith who competes in Rhythmic Gymnastics was focused on the Xtreme Rhythmic North Shore International Competition last weekend in which she had a good outing against the Australian’s, coming 3rd overall in level 7. Her apparatus placings being 3rd in Rope, 3rd in Clubs and 2nd in Hoop. Unfortunately, Carlene’s Ribbon routine did not go to plan but placing 3rd overall is an awesome achievement to be proud of!

Rosehill Raptors Basketball ClubThe Rosehill Raptors Basketball Club got off to a great start last week on Thursday 11th August with lots of new wee faces coming along to register and give our free Basketball programme a go. We had a fantastic turn out from many local schools in both the year 5-6 and year 7-8 age groups, with all participants eager to get started learning some new skills.

There are more spaces available in our programme so if there are any other eager friends or participants out there then bring them along to register on the night for our next sessions from Thursday 25th August- Thursday 22nd September.

Last Thursday Coach Tim and our student coaches covered Lay Up’s as the main skill followed by Dribbling and a mini practice game. This Thursday they covered footwork and shooting. These important skills for Basketball were broken down into some fun activities and drills to help our young Raptors get the hang of it before they put it all into practice on the court against their peers and coaches. Check out the awesome photos below to get an idea of the cool tricks everyone learnt.

BowlsCongratulations to Jakeb White who is heading off to Wellington on 26th August for the New Zealand Junior Indoor Bowls Singles. He is also lined up to represent Rosehill College this same weekend at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Indoor Bowls championships! Good luck Jakeb we wish you well!

Netball Premier SilverCongratulations to the Premier Silver Netball team for taking out 1st place on Wednesday night against Alfriston College! After being down by one goal at the end of the third quarter they dug deep to take the win 28-24. The Premier Silver Team would like to thank all of their supporters this season whether they be family, friends, "boyfriends club" members, or fellow Rosehill teams - your support was greatly appreciated!
