From the Principal … Welcome to Week 2 where we are starting to enjoy the warm Spring weather. This term there are many activities that will take place and the staff are busily preparing and organising for these events. The first major event for this term is GrandparentsDay tomorrow. We are looking forward to welcoming many visitors to our school for open classrooms. Grandparents are welcome to attend classrooms from 10am. We will then be providing tea and coffee in the hall for our visitors followed by the opportunity to enjoy recess with our students. It is always wonderful to have our community come in to school to see all the wonderful things we do. This week sees the start of our Kindergarten Orientation program. Our first group visited school yesterday with the second group attending on Thursday. This program is valuable in terms of students becoming familiar with our school, being involved in a variety of activities and meeting some of the staff. Thank you to our kindergarten team and Mrs Hosking for their fantastic organisation of this program. Many months of work go into the preparation for this valuable program. I am pleased to be able to share with our community that I have been invited to be part of a study group involving 20 principals who will be travelling to London to visit a number of schools who have been identified as demonstrating best practice and innovative ideas around education. I will also be involved in a newly developed course for Principals being held at London University. I am excited to see what new initiatives, programs and ideas I can bring back to share with the Governor community. I will be on leave from Friday 8 November and return to school on Wednesday 27 November. In my absence Mr Hamilton will be the Relieving Principal. I look forward to sharing my learning with the staff and community on my return. We are excited to be launching a new initiative for our community. Next Tuesday (29 October) we are hosting our very first ‘Community Cuppa’ event. This is an opportunity for our parents and community members to come along between 8.30am – 9.30am and have a cup of tea or coffee in the hall with the senior executive team and available staff. Community Cuppa is all about being able to chat informally about things that are happening across our school, provide some suggestions about future programs and events and chat about relevant issues that are happening. We hope our community embrace this new initiative and come along, it’s a great chance to get to know our staff a little better and make new connections and friendships with other community members and parents. We look forward to seeing you next week. Week 2 Term 4 22 October 2019

This Friday we are celebrating World Teachers’ Day. We have some special things planned for our staff to recognise the amazing work they do here at Governor every day. On behalf of the students and community we say a huge thank you to each of our staff members for the wonderful things they do and provide for our students and school.

Have a great week!

Deputy Principal’s Message …

Well the first week of Term 4 certainly flew by. All classes are well and truly back into the groove. The pyjama day, last Thursday, was very popular. It was great to see so many students and teachers get into the spirit of the day. Our Summer PSSA teams resumed their competitions last Friday and we wish them all the best in the final rounds.

Yesterday, the GPK Kilometre Club commenced with numerous Stage 2 students enjoying a brisk walk or jog before class. On Thursday, Years 5 and 6 get their first chance to chalk up a few kilometres.

Students from Year 1 and 2 were also active on Monday morning with Little GPK’s kicking off.

We are all very excited about ‘Grandparents’ Day’ on Wednesday. We look forward to seeing many visitors to our classrooms at 10:00am. Hopefully some of them can share their experiences from primary school. At recess all visitors are invited to have recess with our students. If they need a ‘cuppa’, they can visit the hall for a coffee/tea and biscuit. Also Stage 3 will be running a Cake Stall on this day. I am sure there will be plenty of tasty treats. Visitors can enjoy a delicious indulgence while at the same time knowing they will be supporting our senior students.

Recently some very important notes were sent home.

1. Intention to Return to GPKPS in 2020. This notes helps us with the organisation of classes for next year. Please return this by Friday 25 October.

2. Information about My Child for 2020. The information on this note assists with the placement of students in classes. Be advised that this is not a platform to request teachers for your child. Please return this by Friday 25 October.

Please be advised that parents and carers are not to bring dogs into the school playgrounds. It is essential that people adhere to this for numerous reasons.

If you are looking for some good quality Second Hand Uniforms make sure you visit the P&C Stall this Friday morning at 8:30am.

This Friday we celebrate World Teachers’ Day. I would like to extend a huge thank you to the amazing teachers we have here at GPK. They do a wonderful job.

Good luck to our debating team in their grand final on Monday 28 October. "Hope your week's off to a good start".

Values Education - The value for Week 2 is Satisfaction/Contentment. Satisfaction is gaining a sense of wellbeing and happiness from doing something well. Satisfaction brings peace of mind and leads to contentment. Contentment is being in peace inside ourselves. To gain satisfaction we need to achieve things, results. To achieve results we need to make our best effort. If we try our best, we will experience satisfaction and feel happy and content. Please discuss with your children the importance of feeling satisfied and content.

Safe, Respectful Learner Program - The focus for Week 2 is ‘Be a Learner - Listen, watch and learn’. To achieve good academic results it is important to be actively engaged in lessons. For us to become life-long learners, we need to listen carefully to teachers and peers, watch and practise new skills and learn to be self-motivated and to seek out new knowledge for ourselves. Please discuss this with your child/children and encourage them to want to learn new things.

Book Club - If you would like to order from Book Club please use the online LOOP system. Orders are due to Scholastic no later than 1st November.
