From the Principal … It is hard to believe that there are 18 school days left, not including weekends. Please keep an eye out for the various events that are occurring at GPKPS over the next few weeks. We warmly welcome back Mr Corcoran after his study tour. We look forward to him sharing some of his educational experiences he has encountered over the last 2 weeks. Don’t forget offerings for the Fairfield Christmas Challenge can be donated up until December 2nd. It would be sensational to reach and go over the 2018 total of 26 trolleys. Last Friday, our two Cricket sides and Senior Girls AFL played in Horsley Zone PSSA Summer Grand Finals. Congratulations to our Senior Boys Cricket who won their Grand Final. Our Senior Girls AFL went back to back after being victorious in the decider. Well done to both teams in being crowned premiers. Unfortunately, our Junior Cricket team went down in a tight game and finished the season as runners up. Fantastic effort from all teams. Week 7 Term 4 26 November 2019

From the Principal …

It is hard to believe that there are 18 school days left, not including weekends.

Congratulations to Miss Kathryn Vukovich who last week was appointed to a permanent teaching position at GPKPS commencing in 2020. We wish her all the best in her future career.

We have been experiencing a number of days where air quality has been affected by smoke and other factors. It is crucial that students, who suffer from asthma, have up to date medication at school. GPKPS puts in place various processes and procedures in order to minimise impact on student and staff health such as was the case last Thursday.

Parents and carers who receive correspondence from GPK, whether letters, phone calls, messages and emails are asked, if required, to return responses as soon as possible.

This term we have had a number of students who have been waiting in the office to well after 3:30pm. We understand that on rare occasions parents and carers may get held up for valid reasons. However, we are seeing the same faces on a regular basis. If you are finding it challenging to arrange pick up at 3pm there is after school care located next door at Allambie Road Before and After School Care.

Finally thank you to Ms Stojanoska, Mrs Hosking, Miss Fitton and Mrs Smith who have been tremendous help over the last few weeks to me when undertaking the position of Relieving Principal. Also, a huge thank you to all staff who have been very busy with an array of tasks as we move towards the end of year.

Regards

Glenn Hamilton Relieving Principal

Values Education - The value for Weeks 7 and 8 is Caring. Caring is a feeling of reverence and an attitude of care and regard towards someone or something. It acknowledges the unique dignity in everyone. We are practicing caring when we treat everyone the way we would like to be treated. Caring for property is an attitude of responsibility towards our own and other’s property. Being caring includes self-respect. Please help your children develop a caring attitude towards others by practicing the same.

Safe, Respectful Learner Program - The focus for Weeks 7 and 8 is ‘Be a Learner – Be a problem solver’. When we are young, we rely on our parents, family and teachers to look after us and to solve any problems that we may encounter. However, as we grow older, we must learn to find answers and solutions for the many problems or questions that we might be faced with. Help your child/children to become a problem solver by encouraging them to take on small responsibilities at home and by giving them simple things to problem solve at home.

Reading Club - Reading Club will end Tuesday 26th November. Please finalise any reading club sheets and give these to your child’s teacher by Friday.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr Seuss

Deputy Principal’s Message …

By the end of this week, we will be in the Christmas month (Sunday is the first day of December) and the count down will surely begin. This will be my last Deputy Principal message for 2019. Reminder: If your child attended Kindergarten Orientation and you did not get an information pack (Library bag given to parents at the information sessions held in Week 4), please speak to Mrs Hosking in the office. There are many existing families who still haven’t collected their child’s information pack which includes the bag that they will need for weekly Library lessons. Last Friday, K-2 students had their first NRL session. This sporting program promotes physical activity through learning the basic skills of Rugby League. All students enjoyed their first session. K-2 students will participate in another two sessions (Friday 29th November and Friday 6th December). Please ensure your child is wearing their sport uniform and has their hat on these two days.

Congratulations to the following students who are the winners of the GPK drawing club competition: Aleeah Loxton KSM, Jennifer Nguyen 1HS, Amanda Huynh 1HS, Sienna Hosking 1/2SV, Mahjoylee Iakopo 1/2SV and Mayar Fatoohi 2LT. These students certainly display artistic capabilities and really impressed the judges with their drawings which have been included in this Deputy Principal’s message. All winners have received an artistic pack so they can continue to impress everyone with their amazing pictures. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the GPK drawing club for 2019 and to the teachers (Mrs Russo and Miss Taylor).
