Welcome too, to the 5 new families who joined us this fortnight. We trust you enjoy being a part of our community and that your children flourish in our collective care. This term we welcome back some of our staff from leave and have listened with interest to the holiday stories of our students. It’s great to be back at school! Next week we are holding our Parent / Teacher interviews on Monday 27 July. The interviews will be held in your child’s classroom. I would encourage all parents to attend and discuss your child’s academic progress, celebrate their learning and make plans to support their ongoing progress over Semester 2. If you did not receive your invitation from your child, please contact the office or the classroom teacher for details and the interview response sheet. Sporting Success Congratulations to Harley, AJ and Lachlan who have been selected to represent the district at the upcoming rugby union competition. The boys join 16 other students from both state and non-state schools at the state competition to be held later this term. We wish the boys all the best. NAIDOC Week Last week we celebrated NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Celebration) with all classes and students involved in a range of fun activities. Thank you also to Mrs Thomas, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Parsons who co- ordinated and organised the week on behalf of the school. The week’s events culminated in the opening of our Yarning Circle. In previous years, a sample of 40 parents was generated by the department, which often had a poor response of return on a paper copy. Last week a letter and a blue form was sent home for each family to access the survey. The information we receive at the end of the year assists us to make plans for the following year. If you have the time, please feel free to respond FROM THE PRINCIPAL School Values Review During last semester, staff and students undertook work to review our school’s values. Our values underpin all the work we do at Tullawong State School and help us to prioritise our programs, activities and future direction. Four elements came through very strongly from our groups, contextualising our belief that education is transformational, but to actively participate in it, we need to have strong foundations to allow all students to engage and succeed. I am proud of our staff and students. Their ongoing work and commitment to our school shows our desire to make Tullawong a great school in a great community. Our four values and draft belief statements are below. I am looking forward to working with our P&C, parents, staff and students over the semester as we continue on our journey together as a school community.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSTER

Year 2 to Year 3

Welcome back! It has been a very cold but busy start to the term. It is great to see so many students in the correct school uniform. Thank you to parents and guardians for supporting students with this.

Before classes start, all students in year 2 are to wait in the junior covered area and all year 3 students are to wait in the middle covered area. These areas are supervised by staff to support the safety of students. No students should be waiting around the classrooms or be on the playgrounds before school. There is no supervision of students in these areas at this time.

Parent teacher interviews are scheduled for week 3. Please make a time to see your child’s class teacher to discuss their progress in class.

Middle School Reading

Rewards

Well done to all of our certificate winners on parade. Our reading awards go to:

Nioka (2/3G)

Sebastian (3D)

Madalin-Rose (2C)

It is fantastic to see so many students completing their reading rewards cards.

Payment Plan for Uniforms and Bookpacks 2015/2016

The Tullawong P&C offers a Payment Plan. Forms are available from the Uniform Shop for families in the endeavor to help you plan for the expenses that occur at the end of the year, as it can be a large expense as one lump sum in Term 4. The application form has also been included as an attachment with this newsletter.

Take advantage of your School Kids Bonus (2-16 July 2015) or tax cheque and transfer some of this money onto a School Payment Plan and be ready for the expenses at the end of the year for your child/children.

SENIOR SCHOOL SCOOP

Year 4 to Year 6

As Miss Vicki Hyne has taken up an acting position as Principal at Lota State School for the remainder of the year, I have taken over her role as overseeing Years 4 to 6. Miss Hyne has made a significant contribution to the school during her time here and will be missed by staff and students. We wish her well with her new endeavours.

Our behaviour focus for the first two weeks of Term 3 has been ‘Be Respectful’, with an emphasis on wearing our school uniform correctly. All students have been discussing this focus in their classrooms and it has been addressed on parades too. Our focus for weeks 3 and 4 will be ‘Be Responsible’ with emphasis on ‘I keep my hands and feet to myself’.

Our winter sports program commenced last Friday and sports on offer include Junior and Senior Rugby League, Junior and Senior Girls and Boys Touch, Junior and Senior Girls Netball, and Junior and Senior Girls and Boys Soccer. This will run for Weeks 1 to 4, and weeks 6 to 8. In week 4 (4 and 5 August), some of our students will participate in the District Athletics event at Wamuran. Gala Days will be held on day on Fridays in Week 5 and 9.

IMPORTANT NEWS

TERM 3 2015 EDITION 11 22nd JULY

Tullawong students have had a flying start to the new term despite the cold. We appreciate the parents who have ensured their children are warm and wearing the correct school uniform.

There will be a continuation of the SPAT testing by the QUT on Thursday and Friday of this week. Forty five students have been selected for this screening. We are thrilled that Tullawong has the opportunity to work with the University who provide this additional testing for students.

Tullawong now has an onsite psychologist each Friday for students who may benefit from additional support. Some parents may be unaware that some students may qualify for ten free sessions a year with a psychologist of their choice. Some parents due to lack of transport, work etc. may not be able to access sessions outside the school. If you are interested in your child seeing a psychologist and are not sure how to access the free sessions please ring Therese or Sharon at the HUB Office.

There has been further good news that may assist some members of our community. There is a new service “Phil’s Happy Place” that provide:

In-Home Care (Respite)-They go to your home and take your child out for an activity

Fitness Program - Little Ninja’s

Family support Workshops - ASD, Trauma & Attachment, Social Skills Action, Behaviour, Communication

Out of Home Care (Respite) - North Lakes and Ferny Grove (weekday, overnight, weekend, holidays) They also offer a pick up or drop off service. They have current vacancies and funding is available.

If you are interested please check out their Facebook page or accept the invitation below:

We are excited to invite you, your family and friends to a morning tea to discuss the support offered by the new Disability Care Service, “Phil’s Happy Place.”

CORRECT SCHOOL UNIFORM

It is an expectation that children attending Tullawong State School wear the correct school uniform which has been selected by our Uniform Committee and endorsed by our Parents and Citizens Association.

Our winter uniform is a navy blue school jumper and navy blue track pants. We currently have some students who are wearing non-uniform jumpers to school. Students who present to school in a non-uniform jumper will be asked to remove the jumper.

Hooded jumpers are not to be worn to school.

A full copy of the school uniform policy is available on the school website. A current price list for our school uniform shop is also available on the school website. We appreciate your support in regards to school uniform.

Resource Centre 18 August and 3 September.

Enrolment forms are now available from the high school website by clicking on the Enrolment section as shown. This

year, you have the opportunity to enrol on one of two days- Tuesday 18 August or Thursday 3 September. There will

be a general information session held on each half hour, so it’s really important that you are punctual. Following this,

your forms will be checked and you may ask any questions from your interviewer. You, your student and your

interviewer will sign the school agreement form which sets out our rules and expectations. Help to fill out the forms

will be available on the day, or you may ring the high school and ask for clarification on 54 285 222.

https://tullawongshs.eq.edu.au/Enrolments/Pages/Enrolments.aspx

To book an appointment, please visit the SOBS link on the enrolment page. Alternatively, you may ring the school for

an appointment.

There are slots before school beginning at 6.30am, and after school until 4.30pm. The number of seats means the
