Introduction: In term three the prep students were studying ‘Where the land meets the sea’. In this topic the students studied the environment around the sea and land. The students ex-plored the features of this environment and discussed the many activities that took place at the beach. This term our theme is ‘Caring for ourselves’. Health and safety of people. How do we keep ourselves healthy? What food keeps us healthy? Language: In language the prep students learnt different strategies of comprehension. They have enjoyed the reading aloud and the shared reading lessons. In those lessons we explored and predicted what the text is about before, during and after reading. The students also noted their background knowledge of the text and their new learning. Maths: In Term three Multiplication was introduced to the prep students. It was challenging but interesting for the preps. This topic will be revisited this term. Weather Notice: During this El Nino season I ask if parents could ensure your child wear a school hat to school. Provide enough water for your child to drink. The preps will not use the play area as the iron bars could be too hot for them to touch.

To the Grade 12’s

Once again you have reached the end of another chapter in grade 12 and a beginning of a new chapter in your edu-

cational career. Joining you last year was a learning curve for me. Getting to know you, was challenging but we man-

aged together and have reached this far. There have been so many things we’ve done, gone through hard and chal-

lenging times, happy times ,emotional ones, shared each other’s problems and always stood up for one another as a

family. These are some of the things I would like you to take with you as you move out from Kimbe International

School. Always be positive in Life and be strong.

Treasure the memories and advice you have gained from the years you’ve been in KIS.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Celebrations to you all and your families during the festive season.

Below is a poem by Joanna Fuchs which I did some editing.

Always Be A Student By Joanna Fuchs (edited by CP)

Keep on learning, Grade 12’s,

Though your graduation's around the corner; Your whole life's an education

That has only just begun.

Your diploma is the first big step, For knowledge is the special key To winning what you want in life And being who you want to be.

If you'll always be a student,

You'll find the secrets to success And travel on the golden road

To peace and happiness.

A graduating message from CP….

Last week Mr. G. Simbiken and Mr. S. Papapu attended the FINA Swimming Coaches clinic through an invite from Papua New Guinea Swimming Incorporation (PNGSI) which was held at the Taurama Aquatic Centre (TAC) in Port Moresby. The clinic was funded by the FINA Development Program and PNG Swimming Incorporation (PNGSI) BSP Swim Teacher Program. The expert, invited by Australian Swimming Coaching & Teachers Association (ASCTA) to conduct the clinic, was Mr. John Bladon who is currently the Head of Aquatics at the Knox Grammar School, Sydney Australia. John is a Silver Licence coach with a degree in sport science

(University NSW). He has been a member and head coach of

the NSW and Australian Age and Youth Teams over the last

15 years, and is currently the State Team’s Head coach (2013,

2014 & 2015). John has been Head coach of some States and

Australia’s top Age Group Swimming Clubs. He is the Presi-

dent of ASCTA NSW, a member of the Swimming NSW board

and a member of Australian Swimming’s accreditation advi-

sory board.

John was a competitive swimmer in his native country, Eng-

land, where he started his career as a volunteer swimming

teacher over 30 years ago. He has two children aged 13 & 16

who are both competitive swimmers.

The clinic was officially opened by BSP Marketing representa-

tive Rosemary Mawe on behalf of Sports Minister Hon Justine

Tkatchenko. John covered the four different types of strokes

in swimming, that is the, Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly and

Breaststroke. John also helped us understand the energy sys-

tems in the body, simple biometrics, progression drills, starts

and finishes, training sets, squad sessions and race analysis.

The practical sessions were made possible by swimmers from the Boroko Amateur Swimming Club (BASC) of which some had

represented PNG in the recent Pacific games.

At present there are swim clubs only in Port Moresby and Lae. We are working with PNGSI in creating a swimming club in Kimbe

which in turn would register under PNGSI. We will keep you informed with future developments and look forward to working

with you.
