Assembly dates:
8 June
22 June
ALL parents and visitors to the school during
school hours (8.50am to 3.00pm) need to sign in
via the office first.
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,
What a cold and windy day we are having today! The breeze is certainly quite chilly as it
whips around the buildings. Thank you to those parents who have purchased our school’s
winter uniform and those parents who have purchased a navy blue set from a chain store.
Orders for our school’s winter uniform will be taken again in February 2017 ready for the
winter season next year. If you have not managed to purchase a navy blue winter set yet,
could I urge you to do so.
Parents and community members have the opportunity to decorate a calico flag to include
in our bunting which will be displayed on our official school opening day on 21 June. These
flags can be obtained for free from our front office up until Wednesday 3pm and due back
by 9am at the latest on Thursday this week. The theme for the bunting: What Bellmere
State School means to me. Any volunteers who are able to assist with the sewing of the
bunting on Thursday this week would be warmly welcomed.
The application for the plaques is also ready for community interest. The link to the
application form will be emailed separately tomorrow and advertised on our Facebook
page. Just to refresh :
Our P&C will be offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for the foundation families, staff
and community of Bellmere State School. Community members are able to purchase a
plaque highlighting their names as foundation families, staff, students, friends of 2016.
These plaques will be displayed alongside our Foundation Tree mosaic that students will
be making and displayed on a wall inside our Hall when it is built next year. This is also a
fundraising opportunity for our P&C and members are invited to complete the application
form to register for a 2016 Foundation Plaque. There are 3 levels:
• Gold – costing $50
• Silver – costing $40
• Bronze – costing $30
This opportunity is a once only offer running for 2016. Application forms are available on
the school website, and also from our school office.
The applicaton forms and payment of money is due back by 20 June. These will be
ordered over the mid year break and ready in Term 3 to complement our mosaic.
Last week on Assembly, Bella, our environmental mascot, was introduced to our students.
Bella is a beautiful 1 metre high soft cuddly koala, dressed in our school uniform. Year 3A
were the lucky class to look after Bella for the fortnight as a reward for their 100%
attendance rate over the last fortnight! What an amazing achievement Year 3A! I also
have to acknowledge all the classes for their amazing attendance data last fortnight!
We currently have $11,000 outstanding in resource fees.
Thank you to those families who have paid them in full,
or organised Centrelink or a payment plan with us and
are paying off their fees. All fees should be finalised by
the end of this term. The fees were set at a reasonable
price, and many families exclaimed how cheap our fees
were. We priced the fees so that families could afford
them. Statements for outstanding amounts are
currently being sent out. I would appreciate your
attention to this matter by the end of this term.

This term, as part of the school wide You Can Do It
program we have been focusing on Getting Along. In 5A
we created a display board of the qualities we'd like to
see in a best friend and the qualities we'd see in someone
that we would probably avoid on the playground. As a
class we have been trying hard to all show the qualities of
a best friend!
Ms Draheim & 5A
Bellmere Choir and Instrumental

1B has had a great start to the term and have worked consistently hard in all aspects of their learning.
Under 8’s day was a blast with all students really enjoying the activities.
This term;
Reading has been a big focus this term with reading rotations in full effect. It has been excellent to see all students making improvements and growing in confidence. Learning the SSP strategies has provided students with a fantastic set of new skills and the students particularly enjoy using the iPads in continuing to hone their strategies for reading.

Sorry Day from 4A
The first Sorry Day was held on the 26th May 1998. 4A
made some red, black and yellow hands in the shape of
the Indigenous Flag to commemorate the Stolen
Generation.
By Jet
The first Sorry Day was held on 26th May 1998. We made
yellow, black and red hands and put them in the shape
of the Indigenous Flag to represent the indigenous
children that were taken from their families.
By Mackenzie
Hands we made represented those children who were
removed from their families. The Indigenous People
were not allowed to use their language. On 13 February
2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised to the
Indigenous People for their suffering.
By Malia
On Tuesday 24th May, Year 4 students completed a
guided hands-on investigation which expanded their
knowledge of processed materials. Students mixed
various chemicals to produce a number of amazing
polymers. To complete the workshop they each made
bouncy balls to take home.
