AV MONITORS: (NEW POAV MONITORS: (NEW POSITIONS) SITIONS)
Taking on leadership roles provides students with opportunities to acquire and practise new skills. With this in mind, we have introduced AV Monitors to assist with managing the Undercover Area Audio Visual responsibilities. Congratulations to Year 5 students, Joshua Naden and Cooper Avins, who were nominated by teaching staff to assume these responsibilities. With assistance from Mr Coci and Mr Longbottom,
Joshua and Cooper will be trained up to manage the AV requirements in the undercover area. They will become the experts who will then train up and
support new students to take on the role in 2017.
Students who accept these additional responsibilities at school agree to take on the role and ensure they complete and catch up on any
class work as required.

STUDENT ASSEMBLIES STUDENT ASSEMBLIES –– CHANGESCHANGES
Due to the significant increase in student numbers this year (we commenced this term with 591 students) which has led to insufficient space in the Undercover Area, Kindergarten students will not be attending assemblies this semester. We have also modified the format of assemblies and student’s birthdays will not be read out during this time. Recognition of student’s birthdays,
where appropriate, will take place in classrooms.
SWMMING TIMETABLESWMMING TIMETABLE
Please refer the table below for this times and dates for in-term swimming commencing Monday, 15 August, week 5 at Altone Leisure Centre, Beechboro. Buses will leave from school approximately 1/2 hr. before the scheduled lesson time. Swimming is
valuable life skill and we look forward to seeing your children flourish in this area.
SCHOOL ENROLMENTSSCHOOL ENROLMENTS
Friday 22 July is an important date in your child’s education
Families need to apply to enrol their children in a public school for 2017 if they are:
starting Pre-primary (first year of compulsory school) – 5 years old by 30 June 2017
starting Year 7 (first year of secondary school)
changing schools.
Families can also apply to enrol children in Kindergarten for 2017 if they are 4 years old by 30 June 2017.
CAPOEIRA INCURSIONCAPOEIRA INCURSION
On Monday, 1 August at 1pm there will be an interactive incursion in the undercover area for all students from Years 1-6. The incursion will be presented by Muzenza Capoeira and will introduce students to the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, an important part of the culture and history of Brazil, where this year’s Olympic
Games are being held.
Capoeira is a martial art that incorporates music and dance, and historically it was utilised by former slaves in Brazil to escape from slavery. Today it represents freedom of the mind and spirit, and freedom to express oneself. It is frequently played as a game, although it is a martial art and can certainly be used as a form of self defence. There are many documented health benefits that
arise from practising capoeira.
Following the incursion, students will have the opportunity to participate in a 6 week program as part of the Sport in Schools program, that gives them a basic introduction to the sport and culminates in an opportunity to participate in a performance at Aveley Primary School and at Muzenza Capoeira’s annual Batizado which occurs in the September school holidays. Many of the best capoeiristas in Australia and a special guest from Brazil, also a dual World Champion, will be present at this second
performance. More information on this will be forwarded to interested parents and students after this incursion.

WATER CONSERVATION WATER CONSERVATION
Water is the planets most precious resource and without it no plant or animal can survive.
In Australia, the world's driest inhabited continent, it is especially important that we conserve our water. As WA continues to experience the effects of a drying climate and our population continues to increase, it is important that everyone reduces their
water consumption.
Traditionally, WA has been reliant on dams to provide the majority of our water supply. Over the course of time the amount of rainfall and water flowing into the dams in the south west of Western Australia has significantly reduced. This has meant
that we now source a large amount of our water from groundwater and sea water.
These changes mean that supplying water has become more complicated, costs more money and is more expensive. The
change in our water sources, coupled with our drying climate, means that the need to conserve water is extremely important.
Test your knowledge with our water conservation e-learning games!

Hello parents, carers and friends, thank you for your support.
Please be aware that our Quiz Night will be held on September 3 in the Aveley Community Building. If you know or have a business that would like to donate prizes for this event please get in touch. Remember that we have decided to keep it an ‘Adults only’ (16 and over) event because there will be alcohol consumed and some alcohol as prizes, plus it gives the parents a break and night out without the
children.
Our current fundraising will be used to provide a ‘loose parts’ shed for the school. The shed will cost around $5000 and house items and equipment that the children can use for play, sports and entertainment. Your P&C have already given more than $5000 to the
school this year and this has only been made possible with your support.
We still have socks for sale and will continue to sell them at our Thursday assemblies until further notice. We have white or grey socks (and a few grey tights) mostly small sizes with three pairs in a packet for $3. We still have ‘Hedgehog’ cakes for sale too. The cakes have an August use-by date so we need to move these on quickly, therefore we have reduced the price and will now sell
them for $1 each or 6 for $5.
Entertainment book sales have raised a substantial amount for the P&C and we thank those that have purchased so far. Get your copy via the link on the Aveley P&C Facebook page, or if you visit the Entertainment Book website just search for the Aveley Primary School selling page, or you can type in this link: https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/91183e Please check
the display in the school office for a sample book and order forms.
We have had some volunteers come forward to help with the School Banking but there can never be too many. If you can help out with school banking (Tuesday mornings in the undercover area) please see Helen Baker. Banking helps the children to practice
responsibility with money and helps them with goal setting, both very important, plus the school gets rewarded too!
The P&C plays a very important part in the school process and with the help of parents and friends we create an effective P&C. Any amount of your time or skills donated will be appreciated by the whole school community. If you have any feedback or fundraising
ideas for the P&C we would love to hear from you.
To contact the P&C or to keep up with what we are doing you can email us at [email protected], find our facebook page,
see our news in the newsletter or approach any of our committee members. (President - Phil Bennett - 0408 207 192)
Thanks from your Aveley Primary P&C.
