the connection to war shared by Jasmine and Will, and we were bombarded with requests for our story. We were taken by private van to ANZAC Cove to record interviews for Australian media outlets before the actual day and we were involved in a ‘live-cross’ to Australia from the service itself, as well as a cross to a Turkish tel-evision station. Please understand that this was wonderful, but by no-means the highlight of the occasion for us. The bond shared between the students of Doga and East Loddon was by far and away the highlight of the service for us and will no-doubt be something special that we can reflect upon well into the future. It is quite amazing to see how a story grows. One article in the Bendigo Advertiser about Will Stringer and Jas-mine Lawry’s amazing connection to World War 1 has now led to what I mentioned above, as well as exposure for our College in the New Zealand Herald, CNN Turkey, London’s Daily Mail, SBS Radio, 3AW Radio and several Australian newspapers, as well as online media sources (most of which we have never heard of). We feel so fortunate to have been involved in something as special as a dawn service at ANZAC Cove and we were thrilled to hear that our live-cross from Gallipoli was witnessed by those sharing lunch at the Calivil Hall following the presentation from Mr Wilkinson and Jo Cartwright. We would like to once again extend thanks to all in the community that have supported us with continuing the sister-school exchange that has been established with our partner school in Canakkale. It is truly an amazing project that we should all be proud of! (Steven Leed)

I hope that everyone is going well back at East Loddon and I look forward to returning to school this Monday.

Assistant Principal’s News I love weeks like this. Disrupted with assemblies and Public Holidays. Hooray. Tomorrow is Friday already and it only feels like Monday. Thanks to everyone that attended the ANZAC assembly on Tuesday. The kids were extremely well behaved. Please congratulate them on this. My highlight was Kiera T who read the response to Flanders’ Filed without reading any notes at all. This is not an easy poem, but she stepped up to the plate and rattled it off like she’d been practicing for years. FYI, she first read the poem last Friday. Well done! We also went to the schools ANZAC service at the Melbourne Shrine last Friday. Pictured below are our captains Levi, Riley, Kiera and Alicia on the steps of the Shrine then Kiera and Riley our Junior Captains laying a wreath at the eternal flame. Lest We forget! At Tuesday’s College assembly we had a bit of a change of look, following

work from Mr Bunton who made us two silhouette soldiers and Mrs Heaslip

who patiently made hanging strands of poppies. Both of these looked

amazing, thanks to these two staff members for this. Pictured below is Ma-

jor Sheriff who spoke at the assembly. The gym was also decorated with the

wonderful work that our students had been completing in the lead up to

ANZAC Day.

Yesterday, continuing with the ANZAC theme, Jo C and I were privileged

with being asked to speak at the ANZAC Service in Calivil. Though nervous

in front of a big gathering, we spoke a lot about our schools Sister School

program and the connections that this makes with ANZAC Day. We also described how projects such as these

do not work without the help of the entire community. When we were finished, after waking everyone up, we

marched to the cenotaph and had a short service. Almost like it had been organised, during the shared lunch-

eon, the TV crossed live to channel 7 where they were interviewed Mr Leed and Jasmine L. You could have

heard a pin drop in the room and when the interview was complete there was a loud cheer from the crowd.

It’s something I will never forget. Put it in the file under O for ‘Our school and community is Awesome’.

In other news, surely other things have been happening, It is Anna’s last day tomorrow. As such we had a

farewell assembly today at the start of lunch. I have just spoken to Rachel, her host mum and we reminisced a

little about what a wonderful student and family member she has been for the Hay’s. I’m sure Emma Alicia

and Sophie will miss their new sister. How’s this for a highlight, she delivered a lamb. That’s something you

don’t experience if your host family lives in Sydney. Anna also won the Cross Country whilst staying with us

and has been a popular member of the Year 10 class. We wish you safe travels Anna and know that Sophie

will bring us back all the news from Germany after she visits you this summer. Well done to Frau Mc and

Frauline Burgstett for all of the work the German Department has done in organising this. We will all miss you

Anna.

2018 East Loddon Inter-House Cross Country

Thursday 19th April saw a fantastic day for our Inter-House Cross Country. The weather was on our side as over 180 of our stu-dents attempted the various Cross Country Courses.

We also welcomed the Kinder children over who also competed in a modified short course.

Well done to both Prep and Year 4 for having 100% participation rate in the cross country – a fantastic effort!

We also had Mr Wilkinson take on the Year 12’s in the first ever Mars Bar

Challenge. For every Year 12 who beat Mr Wilkinson over the Senior Course – he had to buy them a Mars Bar. For every Year 12

who beat him, he had to buy them a Mars Bar.

Mr. Wilkinson completed the 2.4km in a time of 11:53 – he finished second overall out of the Year 12 cohort! Well done Mr.

Wilkinson and the Year 12’s.

College FETE - Advance notice

In Term 3, the College will be holding our fete to raise much needed funds. The P-4 sub-school have in past

years operated a successful craft/gardening/ and food stall. The stall has been one of the best features of the

fete and was successful because of the tremendous support by our families. Please consider how you may be

able to help. The intention of the early notice is to allow time to turn ideas into products and for ‘potting up’.

Congrats Jo & Mr Wilkinson Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Calivil ANZAC day service. It was terrific with community attending and honouring those soldiers that had fought for their country and some who had paid the ultimate price. In particular I attended the day to support Jo C and Mr Wilkinson who had been invited to speak. What a special opportunity? I loved hearing about their family history and personal travels to Turkey. You both did a great job, congrats. Check out the pho-tos above of them both running in our recent Cross Country.
