1 From The Principal What a great year it has been! Growth is marked every day in every classroom and in every child. Just like the caterpillars that our pre-k students observe over time, we have observed your children blossom throughout the school year. We witnessed academic and social achievements across the grades. We wish to thank you for choosing our Catholic school for your child. We truly feel St. Michael School is a very special place and we are pleased to be assisting you in preparing your child to be a successful learner and productive citizen. This year has been filled with wonderful activities sponsored by our Student Council, National Junior Honor Society and PTO. Special thanks go out to our PTO for all of their fundraising efforts this year. We’d like to thank all of those involved with these three organizations for a fantastic school year! The last day of school for students in grades 1-7 will be on Friday, June 14 th . The school children will attend 9:15a.m. mass and then will return to school for a half day with dismissal at 12:15p.m. Bus home is available but Ext. Day Care is not available that afternoon. Additionally, students will participate in Step Up day on June 13 th to visit the next grade. The school will be closed for the summer except for summer programs. If you need to get in touch with us, please email us since we monitor emails over the summer. You may receive some emails from the school just keeping you informed as we near the start of the school year. Also, feel free to check the school website, www.saintmichael.com for updates. We will send a summer letter out in August that will outline the start of the new year. We hope your child will participate in the Optional Summer Reading Challenge this year. Student will complete a Bingo Card and they’ll earn No Uniform Passes. Bingo Cards are attached and will go home on the last day of school. Please post your photos on our private Facebook page so we can see you actively reading all summer! Most students will receive a summer packet to complete for the start of the new year. They may also have a reading/math assignment or two for their incoming teacher. Please be sure your child completes these assignments. I wouldn’t want the year to come to an end without thanking the faculty and staff for another wonderful year. The teachers and faculty work tirelessly to prepare for each and every school day. Their weekends are filled with planning and correcting papers. Many times, our teachers are even at school on weekends decorating classrooms and hallway bulletin boards. They are an amazing group of people who devote themselves to Catholic education and your children. We wish them all a wonderful, well -deserved, and rest-filled summer vacation! Thank you for a wonderful school year and for choosing a Catholic education for your child. I hope the summer brings you much good health, happiness and fun! Peace, Sue Gosselin

Pastor's Corner We welcome to our parish community Fr. Jiwon Yoon and Fr. George Rouse who have been assigned here by Cardinal Sean. Fr. Yoon was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston in 2014 and has served as Parochial Vicar at St. Margaret’s Parish in Burlington. Fr. As we welcome our two new priests we give thanks for the ministry of Fr. Chris Lowe who will become the Administrator of St. Margaret’s Parish in Lowell and Fr. David Brogan who will be working at St. Mary’s University in Minnesota. We give thanks for their presence and care for the students and faculty of our School. When you see Fr. Yoon and Fr. Rouse, please introduce yourself and welcome them to St. Michael’s. We look forward to their ministry among us. Welcome!!

Mission Statement Saint Michael School offers an exceptional Catholic education to our students, nurturing their desire to achieve academic excellence and encouraging spiritual, artistic and athletic development in a caring, family environment. Upper School Volleyball Team

The girls played their last game at SMS. This season we travel to Immacu-

late Conception in Newburyport. The girls/boys team were excited to compete

in their last game and came out ready to fight for the win. Reflecting on the

season, it is clear that the upper school volleyball teams have grown and im-

proved exponentially!

Extended Day Billing Changes

With our new Renweb/FACTS system, there are a few changes to note.

Hours will still be tracked by completing the form at drop off and pickup. Please make sure to write legibly.

At the end of each month, all fees (including the registration fee if applicable) will be uploaded to FACTS

You will be given until the end of the month to make that payment before late fees will be applied

All payments must be made via your FACTS account—the school can no longer accept cash or checks

Only one parent/guardian can receive the bill in FACTS. If you have multiple parents/guardians, you’ll need to

contact Mrs. Rogge to tell her who to bill.

Last month’s statements were uploaded the beginning of this month and will be due the end of the month. Any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Rogge at [email protected]

Oops we goofed! Joey Silva was a member of the 7th grade science fair team that came in First Place. His name was left of the article last month. Way to go Joey!

We can’t believe how fast this school year is going! Grade 5 has finished MAP testing this month and we are looking forward to seeing the growth in our students. We will be attending our end of the year field trip to Cedarland on June 11 and we will be wearing Pink T-shirts.

We are looking forward to an exciting and fun-filled end of the school year!

Mrs. Clifford & Mrs. Adam

I have truly enjoyed teaching the 5th and 6th grade Upper School students this year. They've worked hard all year and are now ready for a well-deserved summer vacation! I'd love for them to READ, READ, READ every day. There's nothing better than reading a good book on a warm summer day. Keeping a journal is also a good way to sharpen their writing skills. They could also play computer games on the parts of speech - nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. Just google one part of speech and all sorts of games pop up. I hope you all enjoy a relaxing sum-mer. I'll see you in a couple of months

Grade 4 News

Just when we thought that we new everything about the fourth grade students, we

found out that there was even a little bit more humor, emotion, and pizazz left in

them. To round out the year the students just completed our “Reader’s Theater”

project. With the help of some amazing moms, the students practiced and then read

to their classmates their Patricia Polacco book. They became the storyteller, and

what a great job they did. Some of the books we read were Christmas Tapestry,

The Grave’s Family, and My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother. The students had

to use a lot of energy and feeling to be able to tell the story to the class. They had a

lot of fun doing it, and they did it very well by showing off what wonderful

readers they are.

One last shout out to the cast and crew of Mary Poppins! Best Ever!

Upper School Science with Mr. Annand It is hard to believe there are just a few days remaining in the school year. The Science students in the upper school have had a great year. They have learned a great deal of information, but it pales in comparison to what the students teach me every day. They have taught me so much about themselves and the school. Each student has their own individual personality and it has been an awesome experience for me to learn the personality of each student. I look forward to getting to know the new seventh grade class next year.

While all of the students are unique, the one thing that they all have in common is their work ethic. The amount of work all of the students put in is mind-boggling to me. One example that sticks out was the Science Fair. The students pride and effort in their projects was clearly evidenced by their grades and the amount of students and parents that attended the Science Fair at night.

I was able to run many clubs in the morning and students from grade 1-8 were involved. These clubs included team handball, dodge ball, volleyball, and floor hockey. The two most important themes were met to have fun and be safe.

I am so proud of the Eight Grade Class. They were the leaders of the school this year. I am sure they will continue to be leaders in their respective lives. It was a joy and an honor to be associated with them this year.

I want to say thank you to all the students of the Upper School and their parents, it is a privilege to be a part of Saint Michael School.

Way to Go! A great big shout out to Julianna Jaworski, class of 2016! She was recently award a Certificate of Achievement as well as the Emilio Cretella Award for Oral and Written Communication Award from Central Catholic High School! Bravo!

Wow!
