From The President’s Desk
Many thanks to all the volunteers who made our recent show possible. There were over 20 guild members who
devoted many hours in set up, judging day, monitoring the show, and tear down. Eight family members were also
recruited to help at various tasks. It is truly a group effort, one person cannot do it alone.
We had more variety in the pieces than usual. Our stitchers are branching out into more techniques, especially
mixing them in one piece. We had more original and adaptations than we have ever had. Our stitching technique in
all categories is superior. Our judge, Jane Ellen Balzuweit, had a difficult time awarding ribbons as there was very
little to differentiate the pieces.
We had a very successful show this year. The rosette ribbons went to Lois Wetherill, Judges Choice for Rusted
Quilting, Legacy Award and First Timer Award for Michigan Series. Caren Scarbrough, Best in Show for Gypsy
Fire and the Triathlon. Gail Weller, Popular Choice for Mr. Kitten. A complete listing of all entries and their
awards can be seen in the show catalog.
The library allowed us to set our dates for next year. They will be September 19-23, 2018. We made a donation to
the library this year for use of the room. It will be used for their programs.

Program and Education Notes
On-Going Projects: Members are always happy to
help if you need advice. So please bring your pieces to
the meetings so we can share in your progress.
November: We will be continuing working on the
Temari Ball project lead by Elizabeth Freeman.
Elizabeth will be providing a pattern to decorate your
Temari Ball. I am sure no 2 Temari Balls will be the
same!! If you were not at the October meeting and
would like a copy of the project instructions, please
contact me at [email protected]. Don't forget you have
the opportunity to reduce your stash by bringing
unwanted stitching items to the meeting to share with
the membership.
December: Holiday Celebration and Installation of
Officers. Get It Finished.
January 10, 2018: Happy New Stitching Year. Lets
make some stitching resolutions. Maria Nowicki and/or
Marianne Mussett will be hosting this program. Do
you have a project that you started and NEVER
finished or haven't looked at in 10 years?? We can call
it "My Good Intention Project" and maybe finish it in
2018! Or is there a stitching technique you want to
learn?? Why not make that your stitching resolution
for the new year.
Ambrosia Honey Project: There has been a lot of
interest in this project both in our guild and at the
national level. Some of us are patiently waiting for
Part III! Please share you progress with the group.
Interested in doing the project but not comfortable with
working on canvas?? There is plenty of help available,
just ask.

Updating Your Contact Info with EGA
EGA Headquarters can accept changes to a member's
record only from the member. This includes address,
email and telephone changes. All change notices
should be directed to Membership Coordinator Tonya
Parks at headquarters or use the On-Line Form at
http://www.egausa.org
When notifying headquarters about address or other
record changes, members should also provide the same
information to their chapter membership officer to
make sure all of your records are up to date.
Don’t forget that new officers should be updated with
the GLR as well!
Annual Wreath Project
My personal thanks to everyone who participated in
making our Boo-tiful Halloween Wreath such a
success. Nonmembers who viewed it at the show
expressed a desire to win it. But in the end, it was our
own Irene Leonard who took home the prize. Members
contributing ornaments to the wreath were as follows:
Kathy Falgout, Elizabeth Freeman, Christine
Hampshire, Anna Kerlin, Irene Leonard, Lee McLaird,
Marianne Mussett, Diane Myers, Maria Nowicki, Su
Pellitieri, Pat Ricker (2), Ann Rorarius, Caren
Scarbrough, Julia Stange, Amber Stark, Karlyn
Thompson (2), Denise Waterfield, Sue Wiemer, and
Helen Zeller. Four of the ornaments were too large to
fit on the wreath and Irene gets to determine how to
display them along with her new wreath.
Next year's theme is patriotic, so anything commonly
associated with our great country and its history will
work. All I ask is that if you are stitching Mt.
Rushmore remember it needs to fit on the wreath.
Again, there is no need to supply a hanger as they will
be stitched onto the netting to secure them. Supplying
8-10" of floss (or the DMC floss color number) to match
the background color of your ornament would be
helpful but not necessary.
Ornaments will be due at the September 2018 meeting
in order for the wreath to be assembled and displayed
at the annual show. Of course, you can turn your
ornament in anytime before that.
