Issue 246 November 2019 For Internal Circulation Only With warm regards, VARUN GURJER President FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK Dear Fellow Members, I hope the festival of lights has ushered in joy and cheer in your homes. I present the report for the month of October 2019 with a degree of pride. As in the previous months, our entertainment events have been blockbusters with crowds swelling & spilling outside the lawns. Oktoberfest was a rambunctious affair, with an afternoon of foot-stomping music, dance, food and fun. The DJ played German Brass Band Music followed by the “Mud Road” Band performing popular country and western songs, enthralling about 1500 members present. Likewise, “The Blues Syndicate”, a Teen rock band that played on two consecutive weekends elicited a good response. Diwali Nite, one of our most popular and much-awaited events with a Bollywood show by “Vyas Brothers” had to be rescheduled to November due to inclement weather. Close on the heels of the Snooker & Billiards League, the Tennis League which is another star attraction kick-started with a player auction for the six teams that will be vying for the top spot at the games that commence in the third week of November. While talent will win games, it is team work & intelligence that will win the championship. It will be great fun to watch the teams in action, so choose your favourite teams and be there to show them your support and encouragement. The Navrathan Bridge Tournament was well participated by members. Organized by the Library sub-committee, The Western Classical music program , performed by internationally renowned musicians was well attended. - Book readings and discussion with Historian & Author Mr. Manu S. Pillai paid a tribute to the Father of the Nation on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Several interesting activities are scheduled for the month of November. The Children's Day Celebration is much sought after by member's children with games, adventure sports and many fun activities. and all year-round, I wish them great happiness. I hope they enjoy their special day! We also have a special celebration for Kannada Rajyotsava, a day that marks the formation of the state of Karnataka in 1956. My team and I have been working towards increasing the scope & scale of events in every department and while doing so, endeavour to fine-tune the finances and assess the implications. We offset and underwrite expenses by way of sponsorships rather than digging into the coffers of our club. It has been noticed that there is a lot of food that gets wasted in breakfast buffets regularly and during events. We urge you to try and reduce this as far as possible. Food wasted could well be a meal for some people. Let us do our bit in dealing with the injustice of food waste and try consciously not to add to the problem. We intend to cater to a wider cross section of people and invite members to share with us ideas for events, be it educational or entertainment, debates or discussions. Thank you as always for your unwavering support and stay tuned for an action packed quarter coming up and updates on it! Dear Fellow Members,

I hope the festival of lights has ushered in joy and cheer in your homes.
