John calls us to “Prepare the way of the Lord!” We are to make a smooth highway to our God, levelling out the rough patches, filling in the potholes, straightening up the crooked bits. I don’t think John was talking about our roads or streets or highways. I think John was talking about preparing two different “ways”: 1. that pathway into the deepest place of our being where we encounter our God, that place deep down where the Holy Spirit makes a divine dwelling place, and 2. that pathway between us and the people in our lives – the pathway of relaonships. If we genuinely want to receive the Christ Child this Christmas me we will prepare our hearts and minds by touching up those parts of our life that have become a lile rough, a lile neglecul, a lile lacking in kindness and generosity, a lile unforgiving, a lile careless in our ways of relang to God and to others. Sometimes you meet someone and your heart just connects. One of the greatest joys I have found when visiting different Churches for Stable, is when I meet a person or people who share the same passion as I do. We may be from a different denomination, culture or age group but something joins us together.
During the year we are all involved in our Church community and our separate lives but as the Christmas Season advances, we all join together with one purpose…Stable on the Strand! As I have visited different Churches I have been privileged to meet people who inspire, encourage and build me up. I look forward to meeting up again with these special connections in a few weeks time.
Our Stable 2016 Final Briefing is on Saturday 3 December, 3pm to 5pm, at Mt Louisa House of Praise.
We can sign you up, talk to you about what roles will best suit you and there will be opportunities for training in special ‘Stable skills’. The best part about Stable for me has been the friendships that have been forged over the hospitality table, while handing out water to TOB volunteers or feeding the incredible Bump in Volunteers. I encourage you all to come and join us this year and become a part of this incredible Stable community.

Attend one of the Volunteer Sign-up days or the Volunteer Final Briefing to receive im-portant information updates and to meet the team you will be working with.
Complete the Stable 2016 Volunteer Safety Induction (available soon).
Read the Volunteer Handbook sets out the general information you need to be aware of, including Workplace Health and Safety poli-cies and procedures for the Event. The Volun-teer Handbook is available for download after you have registered.

VOLUNTEER ROLES FOR STABLE 2016 The online Stable Volunteer Registration System is now open for Stable 2016. We encourage you to login to view the roles available and the shift times. There’s plenty of options for you to get involved and there’s a job for everyone!
Here are just some of the roles:
Actors & Artisans: Participate as characters in the town of Bethlehem, including wise men, Roman soldiers, and town arts and crafts people.
Administration : Provide information and directions to our guests at Stable HQ.
Construction: Help construct, set-up and pack-down the Town of Bethlehem and site infrastructure. Help create sets and props in the lead up to the event.
Festival Performers: Entertain our guests with our Big Heads, face painting, circus skills, and other festival activities.
Hospitality: Serve tea / coffee and Christmas cake in the Hospitality tent.
Greeting: Meet people as they enter the event site, and provide a brochure and information.
Prayer & Pastoral Care: Be available to chat and pray with visitors, and provide information.
Site Care: Assist with the smooth running of the site through overnight caretaking, first aid, care of the grounds, and waste and recycling.
