Industrious and enterprising, Dr. M. S. Ramaiah is among Karnataka’s illutrious sons and an engineering contractor of national repute. He founded ‘Gokula Education Foundation’ in 1962 without expecting any kind of assistance from the establishment with an objective of serving the society. M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) was born under the aegis of this foundation in the same year, creating a landmark in technical education in India.

Through the years MSRIT has imparted quality engineering and education, accessible to thousands from across India and abroad, facing a lack of opportunity to pursue higher education.

Widley acknowledged as a visionary, educationist, industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. M. S. Ramaiah personally ensured that the institution which began with just two disciplines, grew phenomenally over the years. MSRIT now offers Bachelors, Masters and Dectorate programmes in several disciplines and is recognised as one of India’s leading names in technical education. The institution is with state-of-the-art laboratories, well stocked libraries and has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. In tune with the noble ambitions and aspirations of Dr. M. S. Ramaiah to keep the institution growing and developing continuously so as to become a ‘Jnana Sagara’, all departments are continuously engaged in implementing approprite procedures to initiate, include and conduct unique programmes keeping in touch with the emerging requirements of the industry.

DEPARTMENT OF EDC

EDC ORIENTATION

A fresh start for EDC MSRIT in a new session as the general proceedings were kick-started with high aspirations, new faces, some remarkable words and a lot of enthusiasm in the air. The orientation programme was conducted as an attempt to give them a glimpse of what EDC is and what they can expect out of it.

● The event had a keynote speech from Dr Lingaraju, EDC Co-ordinator regarding the importance of entrepreneurship and what the club has to offer. ● A video which was a compilation of EDC’s best moments from the past academic year. ● Representing the student body of the club Mr Harish and Ms Megha interacted with the students present regarding the club. ● An incubated startup in our college owned by Mr Vignesh and his team shared their

experiences. They also organized activities for the students. ● The student body of the club was introduced to the crowd. ● And hence, a new chapter began for EDC, MSRIT with new hopes and aspirations.

E-TALKIES

TALK BY MR VINAYAK JOSHI

Mr Joshi an actor, artist and a radio jockey. He was also a child artist in the Kannada Film industry. The talk was titled “To make in India or make India?”.

● He spoke about some of his most memorable events and moments which included acting, battle with weight loss and coming out of depression and much more. ● He motivated students to follow their dreams and never be pulled down by negative thoughts and feelings. ● He also sang few meaningful Kannada poems which gave the audience a very refreshing break. ● The speaker gave instances from his life where he bounced back after weight loss and went back to acting and jockeying at a popular radio station in Bangalore. ● He also interacted with the audience by asking about their experiences in life when they felt helpless and motivated them to always aim higher. ● He also told that as a nation if we want to develop or reach new heights, we as citizens need to make ourselves better humans and then try to make better nation

TALK BY MR PONNAPA P G

Mr. Ponnapa is a distinguished name in the startup circle and has a career spanning more than 30 years and has held top positions in a number of highly reputed companies like Asian Paints and AOL. He is presently working as a mentor for start-ups which plan to make it big in this highly competitive, yet opportunistic world.

● It is always good to have an insight about what the person on the other side of the table seeks from you. The case is not very different with

entrepreneurs; they won’t miss a chance to get an investors perspective to funding a startup.

● It was a two-hour session by him, in which he discussed about the various aspects that an investor looks at before investing in a company. He also gave an insight about the various small issues one needs to take care of, before starting a company. ● The importance of co-founders, finance and the need of the product in the market were certain other key points which were discussed by him. ● The session was highly interactive and the students asked questions pertaining to start- ups and the startup culture in India. The questions kept pouring from various sectors ranging from hardware startups to the factors which play role in students getting funding for their startups. ● One thing was very sure, that everyone present for the talk was benefitted in one way or another. ● With hopes of having Mr Ponnapa back in the campus real soon, we brought the talk to a close with few words from our faculty coordinator Dr Lingaraju.

A TALK BY GAURAV MUNJAL AND ROMAN SAINI

Mr Gaurav Munjal is an entrepreneur who has founded two companies namely Flatchat and Unacademy. An avid reader and a blogger. Mr Munjal is a very well-known personality in startup scene.

Dr Roman Saini is a motivational speaker and one of the youngest IAS officers. He along with Mr Munjal started Unacademy.

● The event was a sort of talk show where Mr Munjal and Dr Saini were asked questions from students regarding their journey and what they overcame to be become entrepreneurs. ● They asked to stop making excuses and start working towards their startup idea if they want to succeed. Excuses like job security, salary and family pressure is what holding back most people from pursuing their ideas.

● What a person learn after failing at something is more than what a person can after gaining success. So they urged students to learn from their mistakes and keep innovating to achieve success. ● The also stressed on the importance of reading autobiographies and books which help people avoid committing the same mistakes and thus save valuable time, energy and effort. ● They also asked students to spend less time on social media and concentrate on their ideas and studies.

VENTURE HACK: ELEVATOR PITCH

Elevator pitch is succinct and pervasive sales pitch. The idea originates from having to impress a senior executive during a brief ride in an elevator. The competition had students pitching their ideas to our panel of judges in a very short time interval of five minutes.

● The judging panel included Mr Ponnapa P G, a startup mentor and investor and Mr. Rithin Ravindran. ● A total of eight teams were selected to pitch their ideas to the judging panel. ● The teams were very keenly scrutinized by Mr. Rithin Ravindran whi gave a lot of insights into what really happens during an actual elevator pitch. ● The teams were judged based on their ability to grab and hold attention, the problem and the solution and the accessible market. ● The winners of the competition were announced.
