Please submit responses to our McCormick Central Committee Delegate Mary Ann Ackermann at [email protected] by November 12th. Responses to the questions will be discussed at our next Central Committee Meeting. The district listens to and values your input! The first question : Explanation: Charter or Community Schools are public schools in Ohio. Originally they were intended to serve districts with low performance, but they offer enrollment to all districts in the state of Ohio after they are approved. They are oftentimes sponsored by FOR PROFIT organizations who make a profit on these schools despite poor student performance. The majority of these community schools are not performing well, and there have been frequent reports in the news about individual community schools using public monies in illegal ways. For more information about community/charter schools you can go to a website called knowyourcharter.com or the Ohio Department of Education website. Schools will put an informative power point on our website after the October 15 board meeting regarding charter schools and their impact on the funding of our school district. Please see our website at milfordschools.org for this power point. For each child that goes to a charter school, the state takes an average of $7,000 from Milford’s financial allocation. Of that $7,000, $4,200 or 60% of it comes from Milford’s local school tax dollars raised by levies, etc., and the rest $2,800 is from the state share of school funding. Questions: What do you think is important information to share with the entire Milford School Community regarding community/charter public schools? Would you like to be part of a district committee to increase awareness of community/charter public schools in Ohio and make the Ohio Legislature aware of our community’s feelings with regard to these schools and their funding? The second question : “What are our Milford Traditions regarding academics, sports and extracurricular activities? Should we develop more or further enhance the traditions we have?” Board of Education Race Five candidates ran for two open seats in the Milford Board of Education race. The Clermont Board of Election results show that George Lucas and Debbie Marques received the most votes. Mr. Lucas and Mrs. Marques will begin their four-year terms in January of 2016. Reminder: Board Veteran Recognition Milford School District will continue its tradition of honoring veterans and presenting donations to Troop Box Ministries at its November Board of Education meeting to be held on Thursday, November 19, at Meadowview Elementary, beginning at 7 p.m. The Board will award high school diplomas to veterans who did not earn a diploma because their education was interrupted to serve their country in times of war. In addition to presenting diplomas, all area veterans are invited to come to the November Board meeting and they will be recognized for their service at the beginning of the meeting. There will be a short program with patriotic music and a presentation of certificates. Veteran’s Community Run/Celebration Milford High School's DECA students are working with the Miami Township Recreation Department to coordinate the Remembrance at the Meadows memorial event on Saturday, November 14, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Remembrance at the Meadows is a community event that will be held at the Miami Meadows - Spirit of 76 Memorial Park, offering something for everyone. There will be a 5K walk/run, a patriotic art show, music, food, a veteran's ceremony, and family activities. Go to the flyers section of the website (www.milfordschools.org) for details.

McCormickFest FundraisingThe number crunching has been completed and we have AWESOME news to share with McCormick families…we had a record-breaking fall fundraising season and are thrilled to report our profits from McCormickFest are $24,000! WOW! Congratulations and many thanks to all the students and families who participated in the 5k, went door to door fundraising and registering friends/family and for the generous donations! As you may have seen, we were already able to purchase many new footballs, basketballs, playground balls and jump ropes for both primary and intermediate playground areas. We also have a Chromebook cart in the process of being ordered; a Chromebook cart holds 30 small laptop computers and keeps Chromebooks charged, secured and ready-to-use.

Mrs. Tillson’s kindergarten class enjoyed their Gold Star Chili and popcorn lunch with Mr. Baker! They had the most 5k participants at our McCormickFest! This week, the 4th grade will be enjoying their lunch donated by BW3’s! They raised the most money for our McCormickFest fundraiser! We had 26 students raise over $150! Next Friday, they will enjoy hamburger sliders donated by Shooters Sports Grill! Great job kids!

Thank you to Diane Zeigler, our parent volunteers and all the families that visited the book fair. You made it a great success. I hope you are enjoying all the books purchased!

In the Media Center our Friends of the Library program has begun and runs through Nov. 13. Students and families that sign up for the Friends of the Library Club make a $15 donation and then choose a book they would like to add to our library collection. A nameplate with the student's name and date is placed in the book for all to see. A picture of them with the donated book is also displayed in the library window. This program provides roughly 50% of the new books to our library each year.

Your students continue to improve their keyboarding skills in the library too. Ask them how they are doing. You'll be impressed!

Love Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics? Come see McCormick's very own TurtleBots compete in Milford’s first Robotics Tournament at McCormick on Sat 11/14. Doors open to the public at 10:30AM, for practice rounds. Opening ceremony begins at 1:30PM. Eleven teams from around the area are expected to compete.

Kai Munz from Ms. Jones 5th grade class likes being nice to kids, especially ones that others don't talk to or play with much. That way, everybody has a friend!

Also in Ms. Jones 5th grade is Aaliyah Worsham says, "I like to spend time with my grandpa! I get emotional when I leave because I lived with him for two years after I was born. "

Every year, Kurtis Fullman from Mrs. Sullivan's class goes to Florida to meet his Grandma. She spends the winter there. There is a canal right by her house and we catch catfish there!

Dylan Uhlhorn from Mrs. Wickert's class is a good friend!

First grader, Devlin Steele in Mrs. Reece's room, says, "I can do balancing on my bike. It has no training wheels!"

Theresa Evans is in Mrs. Ramos' room. She likes to play outside with her friends. Tiara Lewis, also in first grade, is her favorite person to play with.

Andrew Coors from Mrs. Sullivan's room has been to Washington DC and seen the White House. It is really big!

Fourth grader, Cassidy Prather (also known as Madame Secretary), travels to Kansas every Thanksgiving to see her Uncle Bob!
