From The Desk Of The Principal

Wow! What a long period of cold, gloomy weather we have

endured. Not exactly what I expected when my family and I moved

to this beautiful valley. However, as the philosopher has so aptly

stated, “hope springs eternal”. Students, parents, teachers,

administrators and just about everyone else are adversely affected by

weather patterns. I encourage each of us to bear down and know

that this too shall pass. Warm, sunny weather is just around the

corner and our spirits will rise with the change.

But until that moment arrives, perhaps I can brighten your day by

sharing some humorous answers I have collected from student tests

over the years:

An Octopus is a person who hopes for the best.

Letters printed in sloping type are said to be in hysterics.

A corps is a dead gentleman, and a corpse is a dead lady.

The chief cause of divorce in the United States is marriage.

In Christianity, a man can only have one wife. This is called

monotony.

The Bourbons were a French family who used to make whiskey.

The U.S. Constitution was adopted in order to secure the domestic

hostility.

Algebraic symbols are used when you don’t know what you are

talking about.

The Magna Carta provided that no free man should be hanged twice

for the same offense.

A census taker is a man who goes from house to house increasing the

population.

A polygon with seven sides is called a hooligan.

As educators we take our profession very seriously. We know, all

too well, that what we do affects the future of our children. We

spend a great deal of time preparing, delivering and assessing our

performance and countless hours working to improve our

performance. Humor helps us to cope with the sixty hour weeks and

bleary weather patterns.

I encourage each of us to take care of our children’s health (physical,

psychological and emotional) as well as our own. Take time to

smile and laugh at the humor that surrounds us. As always, thanks

for your ongoing support. It is deeply appreciated.

In light of the recent tragedy in Haiti, Redlands Middle School students have

come forward wanting to help support the relief efforts underway by several

organizations throughout the world.

In response to your son’s and daughter’s overwhelming Act of Kindness, we have set up three coin “water-jugs”

in the main office that students may deposit money into. This will be collected over the next several weeks and

the total amount will be donated to a non-profit organization called www.stillerstrong.org . This organization

was started by actor Ben Stiller, who most of you know starred in Night at the Museum. Specifically, 100% of

the money raised through his organization will be used to rebuild schools in Haiti. What an appropriate avenue

for our school to reach out to help out another school. We are truly humbled by this outpouring of sincere

concern by your sons and daughters. You may see more information regarding this effort at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_6M8NGfYBM&feature=youtu.be. Thank you for your support!

Counseling Department/RMS /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Counseling Information

College in Colorado: 6th and 8th grade students created an account and completed an Interest

Profile in January. CollegeinColorado.org is a state-wide initiative designed to encourage

students to go to college by looking at various careers and exploring possibilities. Parents can

also create an account by going to: www.collegeincolorado.org and following the Create an

Account link. Ask your child to help you maneuver through the site. It is a free resource that

offers valuable information about colleges in Colorado and around the country. We are looking

into including and creating accounts for 7th grade students this semester, also.

Adrianna Tafoya is a senior at MSC doing an internship in the counseling department through

April 30th. We welcome her and are happy to have her!
