Mission Statement

God calls each of us to share and grow in Christ within the church and throughout the community.

Grace and peace to you, We Lutherans occasionally say we live in the now and the not yet. We live and work and play and worship as part of the secular world even while we proclaim the Reign of God is at hand. We are called to be followers of Christ, working to bring about God’s goal for the reconciliation of the universe. We are now in April, the season of spring. But I would like to suggest that the Church’s liturgical calendar can help root us more firmly in that part of our calling that is so easy to put aside. Bishop’s Day, sponsored by the Virginia Synod, was a gathering providing the opportunity for youth in grades

7-12 to converse with Bishop Bob Humphrey and other leaders about discerning one’s life’s vocation. Tim Hoffstaetter was able to attend, and here’s his observation:

“Bishops day was amazing. I met other youth from all around Virginia who are just like me, a very active youth. We heard amazing call stories from the pastors there. We then talked about what a pastor does and what we qualities we think a good pastor should have. We talked about how a pastor has certain gifts that they use to preach the word of the Lord. Then we learned about the process of how to become a pastor, and it is an amazing journey. To wrap things up I loved my time at Bishops Day 2019 and can't wait for next year.”

Spotlight on Faith

Members of Faith Lutheran, As we enter into April, and the Easter season, I wanted to give everyone a quick update from your church council. Hopefully, every church member has received the congregational questionnaire from the call committee. If you have not already filled this out, please take a moment to do so. This is an extremely im-portant step in the call process. This is your opportunity to voice your input on the selection of our next Pas-tor. We will soon be receiving new gutters on the church. Under the direction of our ever present proper-ty man, Bob Bowling, a local company will be installing the gutters in the next few weeks. Our new HVAC sys-tem installed in 2018, performed well, and got us all through the winter months. If you have not had an opportunity, please take a moment to visit our new updated website. Kirby Steining has been hard at work, and it looks amazing. It is easy to navigate, and has lots of useful infor-mation. He even has loaded Pastor Kaye's recent sermons. If you have any pictures or information that is of interest, please pass it on to Kirby. May everyone enjoy a blessed Easter celebration,

Scott Burch, Council President 2019

What Easter Means to Me:

Mary Ann Karnuth: Easter is a reminder of the joy of the new life to come! The week before is the reminder of what Jesus did for me and how much he loves me. I rejoice in His Resurrection. Al Blanchard: Easter is the basis for all Christianity because of the resurrec-tion of Jesus Christ. It is in my opinion the holiest day we celebrate. Barbara Fosnacht: The meaning of Easter to me is Jesus Christ's victory over death and the significance of the Lord’s resurrection. The meaning and significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is our foundation~one word~faith! RJ Brooks: After a good fast, Easter is the start of a new season full of Hallelujahs thanks to God for our Sav-ior! Charlie Haines: Easter is an annual refresher of Christ's sacrifice for us; a reminder that despite our short-comings, we are still part of the kingdom of God. I think it is no coincidence that it occurs at the same time the world around us is waking up from its winter slumber - temperatures warm, plants sprout new life, eve-ryone begins to enjoy the outside again … Refreshing! Rebekah Brooks: Easter is the bright beautiful dawn of a new day in Christ’s sweet Grace.

Did you know? The Groundbreaking ceremony for our Church was held on February 23, 1997, 22 years ago!! And the building was completed and the Dedication was held on October 26, 1997. Many wonderful memories inside the walls of Faith Lutheran Church.

Thanks to Patsy Holmes, Chuck & Susan Boyd, Bob Bowling, Frank Brown, Ann Coon, Mary Ann Karnuth and Carol Ferguson for supporting the April 8 Blood Drive. We had 23 donors participate, many coming to FLC due to the wonderful sign out front. Thanks to members Pastor Kaye Hute, Mary Ann Karnuth, David Karnuth, Carol Ferguson and Meggin Holcomb for being one who gave the Gift of Life.

Our next Blood Drive is scheduled for September 9, 2019.
