Controlling your thought life We think all the time. We observe, record, and process information faster than
any computer on earth. And we store information and imagery better, too. The
human brain is absolutely amazing in its capability to capture and catalog things.
Know this, what we take into our minds definitely influences what comes out in
our lives. Our habits are the results of our actions, which are the results of our
thoughts.
So be choosy when it comes to what you allow into your mind. Be discriminating.
Don’t just allow anything and everything to filter into your mind. So it’s up to you
to take control of your thought life. Second Corinthians 10:5 says, “We destroy
every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their
rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” Guard your mind and be
disciplined in the way that you think. There are four kinds of material with which
you can fill your mind.
1. Poison Poison includes pornography, the occult, trashy novels, things that blaspheme
God, and anything that is bad for your mind. Paul says in Romans 16:19, “I want
you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.”
In Psalm 101:3, David says, “I will set no vile thing before my eyes.” It’s a
promise he made to himself not to look at anything that was bad and unhealthy
for his mind. You might need that verse as the background on your phone, your
computer, or even right above your television! Realize that pornography and
other harmful forms of media aren’t innocent or powerless. They change the way
you think.
2. Stuffing Stuffing is simply stuff. It’s neither good nor bad. As Paul says in 1 Corinthians
10:23, “All things are lawful, but not all things edify.” He’s saying that some
things are not necessarily wrong; they’re just not necessary. A lot of books,
movies, and television shows are just stuffing. They’re not harmful; they’re just
“there.”
3. Brain Food These are things that inspire you, teach you, help you grow, teach you a skill, and
make you a better person. Paul says in Philippians 4:8, “Keep your minds on
whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper.”
4. The Bible When we hide God’s Word in our hearts through reading, meditation, and
memorization, it keeps us on the right track. You have to decide what you’re
going to fill your mind with because it’s going to come out of your life. At what
point do you become righteously indignant, shut down the computer or turn off
the television, and declare, “I’ve had enough”? Let the Bible become the filter
through which everything is judged worthy or unworthy of taking up space in your
mind.

6:30 in the small kitchen. The Council encourages any member of the
congregation who would like to bring something before the Council to contact any
council member or attend the agenda-setting

Approved the use of the Church Alliance group to provide legal assistance to
Faith, if needed, at the cost of $500 per year
Safety Committee Announces Plan for FLC The Safety Committee was tasked with devising a plan that will ensure that the
congregation and its guest’s safety while on the grounds and in the buildings of
the church. The church has a total of seventeen (17) entrances into the buildings.
This is fine for ingress and egress, but it is a challenge when trying to design a
safety plan. The plan will require patience and understanding on the part of the
congregation.
The Safety Committee determined that the plan needed to cover three (3) areas
of concern.
A shooter on the grounds or in the buildings.
A fire that has started in the building.
Bad weather (a tornado or high winds) moving toward the church.
To combat those concerns, the Safety Committee has been divided into three (3)
“action” teams.
A Shooter Reaction Team,
A Fire Reaction Team
A Bad Weather Reaction Team
These teams developed plans to cover their area of concern. These plans will
require some modification of the facilities. The hallway of the Education Wing and
its rooms that do not have windows will be modified and will be used as a “fall-
out” shelter or a “shelter-in-place.” Cameras will be mounted inside and outside
the building with a central monitor that will be manned during church services by
a member of the Safety Committee.
The most significant change that the congregation will notice concerns the
entrances. Some of the doors will be locked ten (10) minutes after the service
begins and open ten (10) minutes before the end of the service. At some point
during the church year, an evacuation drill will be held during the service. An
orderly evacuation is requested. The entire safety plan will be available in the
church office for review.

It’s Almost Here...Faith’s Vacation Bible School
The Week of July 9th—13th The countdown has begun for Faith Lutheran VBS, happening the week of July
9th-13th from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Thank you to the congregation for
everything you have generously donated to help make this the best week of
summer!
More than 100 children have already registered for VBS! NOW our greatest
need is LEADERS! We need two more pre-k leaders and seven more
assistants, one more elementary crew leader, five crew assistants, and one
nursery assistant. Please prayerfully consider how you can serve alongside us
so there will be enough leaders for all the
children who have signed up to attend.
Visit vbspro.events/p/faithvbs2018 to
register a child and to volunteer for a leader
position. Thank you for helping us reach out
to our community with the love of Jesus. If
you have any questions, please contact
Fran Braun, 830-305-1990, or Amy
Cantrell, 830-556-6711.
Dates to Remember: Friday, July 6th, 9:00 AM – Decorating Day Saturday, July 7th, 9:00 AM – Decorating Day
Online registration is open! Please visit vbspro.events/p/faithvbs2018 to register your child and

You Are Invited! Faith’s Family Night at
the Wave Pool will be
held Thursday, July 12th
from 7:15 to 9:15 PM.
The Seguin Wave Pool is
located in Max Starcke
Park East. The aquatic
center will be closed to
the public and reserved
only for Faith members,
their families, and friends
to enjoy during this annual event. Hot dogs, chips, and drinks
will be provided. Come out and cool off in the water or just join
in the fun and fellowship. Hope to see you there!
Many Faith families enjoyed a dip in the Wave Pool last year as a way to cool off in the summer heat.

Item of the Month
For the month of July,
the Christian
Cupboard states that
one of their most
needed items is
nonperishable fruit.
This includes any
brand or type of fruit
including canned,
dried, fruit cups, and
applesauce. Please
bring your donations
to church through July
31st and place them
in the basket in the

and the Social
Concerns Committee
thanks you for your
ongoing generosity.
Camp Eagle—July 15-22 Faith will send 20 youth and 3 adults for a Bible-saturated week in the hill
country near Rocksprings! The group will leave following worship on
Sunday, July 15th, and return around 5:00 PM on Friday, July 20th. This
summer the camp will embark on a journey that will cause us to look at
the ‘shipwrecks’ in our lives, our need to be rescued, and how God’s
rescue can change us positively! We will be focusing on Acts and
Philemon. Faith will join approximately 400 other youth from
congregations all throughout Texas!
Please remember our youth and their sponsors, Pastor Jim, Janet
Wolber, and LeAnne White in prayer. Prayers are requested for safety, for
help in relationship building within the group as well as with those they
meet, and for the mission of this camping ministry. May God’s Spirit work
through them and allow them to grow in their knowledge and love of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
The annual LCMC Convention and Youth Gathering is slated for July 27-28! FAITH LUTHERAN WILL COVER THE COST FOR ALL OF OUR YOUTH WHO ATTEND!

Do What
Jesus Did
A couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to help lead one of our congregations
in a retreat seeking to discern God's vision for their future. We had a wonderful time
as we pursued what God's dream might be for the congregation.
We discovered together that vision is the picture of God's preferred future and is
critical for God's people to discern. For the consequences of our inattention to vision
is dire. In the King James Version, Proverbs 29:18 reads "Where there is no vision,
the people perish." The Christian Standard Bible translates the same verse this way:
"Without revelation, people run wild." In other words, when we take our eyes off
the picture of God's preferred future, we replace God's desires for our own... and we
run wild... which ultimately leads to perishing.
With all of this in mind, we broke the big group into smaller groups of 3 and 4 people
to discuss what it might look like if the congregation would become the church God
desired it to be in the future. A couple of minutes into the small group discussion
time, one table called me over to ask me a question: "It's easy for us to know what
we want for the future of the church, but how are we supposed to know what God
would want for us?"
I suggested that when we don't know what to do, we should simply start with Jesus
as we meet him in the gospels. As followers of Jesus, we are invited to join Jesus in
what he's doing in our community and world. And what Jesus is doing today and will
do tomorrow is always consistent with what Jesus has done in the gospels. In
Romans 12:1-2, Paul admonishes the church "to present your bodies as a living
sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to
this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern
what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God."
So I encourage you to ask this all important question: What would our church be like
if God were in charge of everything? Kind of ironic, isn't it? Shouldn't God be "in
charge"? If we take seriously that Jesus is not only savior, but also Lord, then it is
time we stop pursuing what we want for our churches and start pursuing God's
dream for us instead. Let's start with doing what Jesus did, joining him on his mission
right where God has planted us.

Message from Linda Dietz — Missionary to Uganda What a blessing it has been to have such wonderful support from my Church Family! You have helped send me on this trip monetarily, as well as providing additional funds for Bibles in Uganda. It will make it possible to give a Bible to every new house church that is organized while we are there and provide a resource for Bibles as needed in Uganda.
Your donations have helped support me for travel to Uganda, but the most important need for the success of this ministry of church planting is the corporate prayer of our prayer teams. Please consider joining others in praying for the success of this church planting mission trip. Pray also that the Holy Spirit will fill each of the teams with boldness to be Your witness; to help us speak effectively of God’s love and grace; and if necessary to confirm the message of salvation with miraculous signs and wonders.
When you receive your July newsletter, I will on my way to Uganda. I leave Wednesday, June 27 at 1:40 pm – we have a 12 hour overnight layover in Dubai Thursday night (we get an hotel) and an overnight in Entebbe, Uganda Friday night. The final flight is Saturday morning, June 30, from Entebbe to Arua, Uganda. The first week will find us at Rhino Camp. Over 1.5 million refugees have fled the fighting in South Sudan and are housed in 5 refugee camps in Northern Uganda. One of the camps is Rhino near Arua, a “town” of 70-85 thousand mostly women and children. Our focus in Rhino Camp is to find persons of peace and establish home churches of family, neighbors and friends.
My second week will be in Fort Portal, Uganda. The ministry focus will be the same—planting house churches, but there we will partner with existing churches to train the church members to share their faith and reach out into the community to see house churches form. Each morning we will train believers and after a late lunch we will accompany the members on outreach. The plan is to train at least 3 churches in this outreach method.
I look forward to sharing with the congregation when I return the many stories of faith and hope that are witnessed during this two week outreach. Pray for my safe return. I leave Uganda Saturday night, July 14, at 10 pm and arrive back in San Antonio Sunday night, at 11 pm (no long layovers!)
