Cairns Regional Educator of the Year Winner !

Congratulaons to our Educator Georgina Zadelj who has been

recognized for her outstanding achievements in providing care

and educaon to our local children. Georgina has been named Ed-

ucator of the Year for the Cairns and Far North Region (this in-

cludes Cairns, Tablelands, Innisfail and Tully areas). Georgina was

nominated by her parents to the Naonal peak body—Family Day

Care Australia , then assessed by them on contribuons to the

community, curriculum, family parcipaon and philosophy of

working with children. .

Congratulaons again Georgina! Well Done!

Cassowary Coast Family Day Care had a number of Educators nominated by their par-

ents, so we’d like to recognize all our Educators and thank those parents that put in the �me to acknowledge the

hard work, love and effort put in by our high quality Educators caring for your child.

Sun Safety

The weather is heating up and Summers on it’s way, although we should be caring for our skins all year round, this is the time of year we love to be out in the boat, on the beach and at the park. Please make sure you protect your children’s skins for sun burn and damage and be a wonderful role model by doing the same. Wear a wide brimmed or legionaries hat, long sleeved shirt, Australian standard sunglasses, slap on some 30+ sunscreen 20minutes be-fore going out in the sun and every 2 hours when in the sun, and play in the shade. I hold a Bachelor in Social Science, Advance Diploma of Children’s Ser-vices and Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessor. I have worked in the Council for 20years and in family day care since 1994 in this time I have spent 5yrs as president of the Family Day Care Association Qld. I believe it is important for communities to be resilient and self-reliant and providing a locally owned and operated high quality childcare service is a step in the right direction.

great school holiday skate park workshops for the kids.

The Tully Baby and Child Expo was a wonderful hit. There were stalls in-cluding child and baby clothing, li-brary and Qld Health information stall, child are services, Book read-ing and children’s activities and the Tully Tramp Gym did a demonstra-tion of Kindy Gym. A big thank you to all those who came and partici-

pated and made it a successful day. The Cassowary Coast Family Day Care Educators put on activities for the children present including, badge making, playdough, puzzles, biscuit icing and Fathers Day card making as well as the sausage sizzle and cake stall. $110 was raised from these activities and was donated to Braveheart Foundation. Braveheart has an acclaimed personal safety and education program, teaching our children child safety. So Well done to all those Educa-tors involved!

Method 1. Squeeze the juice from the orange. Pour into a small bowl. 2. Peel the bananas. Cut off the ends. 3. Cut bananas into bite size pieces. 4. Spread coconut onto a sheet of grease proof paper or onto a cutting board. 5. Using a skewer or a fork, dip banana pieces into the orange juice. 6. Roll banana in coconut. 7. Eat immediately, or keep in the fridge

Ingredients

1 orange

2 medium sized bananas

1/2 cup dessicated coconut

Utensils Lemon squeezer

Chopping board and knife

Greaseproof paper (optional)

Sunday 27th October . Make it a special day for your Grandparent.

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT? Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds.

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little

children of their own. They like other peoples.'

A grandfather is a man & a grandmother is a lady!

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be

there when we come to see them. They are so old

they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive

us to the shops and give us money.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past

things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the colors of the

flowers and also why we shouldn't step on 'cracks.'

Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to

tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

They have to answer questions like 'Why isn't God mar-

ried?'

and 'How come dogs chase cats?'

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind

if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially

if you don't have television because they are the

only grownups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack time before bed time, and

they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've act-

ed bad.

A 6-YEAR-OLD WAS ASKED WHERE HIS GRAND-MA LIVED:

''Oh,'' he said, ''She lives at the airport, and when we

want her, we just go get her. Then when we're done having her vis-

it, we take her back to the airport."'
