From the Back of The bike!
Transcript of From the Back of The bike!
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Last week we held our ANZAC Remembrance Parade in our hall on
Friday morning. It was a shame that parents couldn’t attend this Parade
as Mrs Clark organised a remembrance parade of the highest calibre.
Our students were beautifully behaved and showed genuine respect
with most wearing a poppy sold to them by our Student Representative
Council (SRC) and some other students also participated in the Nerang
RSL march representing our school.

Under 8’s Day (P-2)
From the Back of The bike!
Mr Stavar (HPE) once again demonstrated he has control of the weather as he again organised a
successful school cross country on Tuesday.
Parents were allowed to attend this event and it was pleasing to see so many proud parent faces as all
students tried their hardest at the event. Our P & C was flat out serving coffee and cake and really
appreciated the sales on the day. With the cross country being the first school event this year, it was not
surprising to see such parent support with the majority of parents being Prep parents. Thank you to Kylie
and her PCYC team who helped out on the day.
Parents are reminded that students are not to bring prohibited items to school. Sometimes items can be
put into student bags without the parent knowing .I ask that you monitor this if you do not already.
Yes, our electronic school sign is now operational and with most students being dropped off and picked
up from the front school gate, the sign should go a long way to improving communication between the
home and school. Make sure you grab a look as you drive by.
Just a reminder that Monday 3 May is a public holiday (Labour Day) and school will recommence on
Tuesday 4 May.

Students will receive their photo envelope over the coming weeks. Our annual school photos are
scheduled to take place on 26 and 27 May. Families wanting sibling photos are to collect an envelope
from the front office once envelopes arrive. Photo orders can be placed online prior or students can
hand their assigned envelope with the correct money to their classroom teacher on their scheduled
photo day. If you pay prior, please send your child’s assigned envelope with them on their allocated
photo day.
The school photo timetable is as follows:
Under 8’s Day – Prep – Year 2
Under 8’s Day is on and parents are invited to attend (social distancing required) on Friday 28 May from
9am – 11am. Under 8’s Day to is about acknowledging the importance of learning in the early years of a
child’s life. Many hands-on activities will be available for students to participate in throughout the
morning. Donations for activities are always required. Please keep an eye out for these donation
requests from classroom teachers. The P&C will be operating a canteen from the Hall kitchen. Parents
are welcome to purchase snacks for themselves to enjoy throughout the morning. The morning will
culminate with students participating in a picnic in designated areas. We look forward to engaging in a
fun-filled morning of learning.

NAPLAN
During Week 1, our Year 3 and 5 students completed their NAPLAN practice test. This gave
students the opportunity to become familiar with the online platform and style of questions.
Teachers will continue to teach the students how to use the platform leading up to the testing
in May.
Curriculum Leader... Renee Paech
Welcome back to Term 2!
All parents and caregivers will shortly received an email, with Term Two Parent Information, similar to
below, for your child’s year level. These can also be found on our school website. Please take the time to
read through what your child will be learning about this term and take note of the important dates and
events to add to your calendar.
Goals Setting Term 2
With the start of Term 2, students will be looking at their goals for Reading, Writing and Maths. These goals
are established collaboratively with the teacher and student identifying areas for improvement. Some
goals may be continuing as students work with their teachers to achieve success in those areas. Be sure
to check in with your child and ask them if they can articulate their goals.
Below are a few simple questions you could ask your child to give some context to assist with explaining
their goal.
“How are you going with your writing?”
“What are you writing about in class?” (Poems, Narratives/stories, information reports)
“What is something you do well at when writing?) (creative ideas, punctation, paragraphs, cohesion)
“What is something you want to work on with writing?”
“How can you work towards becoming confident with building that particular skill?”

Movie Making with Year 2
The Year 2 students had to make a movie about the learning that they had done around the topic
of Cyber Safety. With the use of an iPad and the software iMovie, the students were able to answer
questions in an interview format, add sound effects and background music to their interview. This
was a fun way for the students to engage in their learning.

Spotlight on Learning... Year 1
The Year 1 classes were very happy to return to their classrooms with freshly painted walls and
carpet! 1R have been busy learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects, completing interactive
activities in the Seesaw App to demonstrate their knowledge. Students also excitedly engaged in
hands on learning by sorting objects into the different types of materials they are made from in our
new Science Unit. Finally, we created some simple artworks featuring Poppies to commemorate
ANZAC Day.

P&C MEETING
The next P&C meeting will be held on Monday 17 May @ 6:30pm in the Staff Room.
Come along, be involved and have a say.
We desperately need a Secretary and Vice-president. Without these positions filled
it means we cannot effectively run the Tuckshop, Uniform Shop and conduct
Fundraising. Currently the President, Vice-president and Treasurer are trying to
share the load but it takes us away from other things we should be doing to benefit
the school. If you would like to be a part of a great team, please contact us via our
Facebook page or email us on the email address below.
SCHOOL BANKING
The Queensland Government has announced the Commonwealth Bank's

TUCKSHOP
We are experiencing more and more parents calling to place their childrens lunch order
after the 9:15am cut-off. While we understand that everyone is extremely busy, we are
unable to be taking orders for lunches while we are preparing.
We are now serving Emergency Lunch Packs to anyone that has not placed their order by
9:15am. This pack will consist of a Vegemite or jam sandwich, a small muffin and an apple
at a cost of $4.00 (allergies will be catered for as best we can). The office will take your
order and payment will be required through your Munch Monitor account. Please ensure
there are sufficient funds in your account. Alternatively, the Tuckshop will contact your for
your credit card details later in the day.
We had a great response to our email asking for volunteers but we still need one or two
people to help on Tuesdays. No experience is necessary, come in, have a coffee and a
chat. If you can spare some time after drop off on Tuesday to make a few batches of
muffins, make popcorn or fill fridges please drop in and see Janine or email us at
[email protected]. We look forward to meeting you.
Also, please remind your children that they are not allowed to purchase items from the
Tuckshop for their friends at break time. This is a school rule that we all must follow.
UNIFORM SHOP
Uniform Shop Monday 8:15am – 9:15am.
Interschool Sports Socks
Year 5 & 6 parents! Interschool Sport has begun with some wins and some losses, but
everyone had fun which is a big part of playing sport. We have sold out of the Sports Socks
but we have some on order and are hopeful they will be delivered before next Friday. Once
they are back in stock you can order on Munch Monitor or pick some up from the Tuckshop.
Winter Jackets and Trackpants
There is definitely a chill in the air in the mornings so make sure you get the kids a jacket and/
or trackpants before the cold weather really sets in. We have limited stock so order on
Munch Monitor or come in to the Uniform Shop Monday mornings 8:15am - 9:15am. If you
are ordering on Munch Monitor, please keep in mind the jackets are larger sizing’s so you
may want to consider going down a size.
