Sasha BaillieCurrently Deputy Prime Minister’s Deputy Chief of Staff in the Ministry of Economy, Chair of the Luxembourg Trade and In-vestment Steering Committee, Chair of Luxembourg’s Nation Branding Committee “Inspiring Luxembourg”, Chair of LuxGov-Sat S.A. Formerly Director of International Economic Relations and European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Held several diplomatic positions abroad, including that of non-resident Ambassador for Luxembourg in Serbia from 2012-16.

Thomas CarellProfessor at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. Studied chemistry in Münster and Heidelberg. Obtained his PhD in 1993 under Prof. H. A. Staab at the MPI in Heidelberg. After postdoctoral training at MIT (USA), moved to the ETH Zurich to start independent research. Accepted a full profes-sorship in Marburg (Germany) in 2000 and moved to the LMU Munich in 2004. Founded the company Baseclick GmbH in 2008. Is a member of both the National German Academy and Leopoldina, is a Leibniz and ERC awardee, and is a recipient of the Cross of Merit from the Federal Republic of Germany.

Diego De BiasioPassionate about entrepreneurship, start-ups and technol-ogy, he has been actively developing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Luxembourg since 2001. Co-organiser of the first Luxembourg hackathon back in 2012 and CEO of Technoport, a technology-oriented business incubator hosting around 40 start-ups. Served as board member at EBN from 2007-16, and as executive board member from 2010-13. He has been an external accredited assessor for new applications for full membership of EBN since 2007.

Gained invest-ment management experience by working for over seven years for leading venture capital firms in the Benelux coun-tries. He got over five years’ experience in technology-transfer best practices with KU Leuven R&D, one of Europe’s premier TTOs. Today, via 3Helix.be, he helps ambitious, Benelux-based researchers bring their high-tech innovations to market.

Yves ElsenManaging partner and CEO of HITEC Luxembourg S.A. Serves as an independent director of Luxembourg and international companies. Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Uni-versity of Luxembourg, and Chairman of the Villeroy & Boch Supervisory Board, after having been Chairman of the Board of the Luxembourg National Research Fund. As a former member of the management committee of SES S.A., he held several senior positions in technical areas, business development, marketing and general management. Holds an MSc in civil engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Zurich), an MBA and a Certificate in Corporate Governance from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France).

Martin GuérinHas, over the last ten years, developed the entrepreneurial support programme for Paris&Co., the agency for economic development and innovation of Paris. A graduate of the Ecole de Management de Normandie, he is a certified professional coach – he has coached more than 200 entrepreneurs, includ-ing Jonathan Benassaya, the founder of Deezer – and is a con-firmed entrepreneur himself. He is currently the CEO of nyuko, the accelerator for entrepreneurs in Luxembourg.

Tom Hockaday Is an independent technology transfer and innovation consult-ant. His business is called Technology Transfer Innovation. He advises universities (on technology transfer and innovation strategies), investment funds, and companies (on growth strategies). From 2006 to March 2016, he was the CEO of Isis Innovation Ltd, the University of Oxford’s technology transfer company (renamed Oxford University Innovation Ltd in mid-2016).

Arne Jacobsson Works in the area of business development and IPR strategy at Linköping University and is also the chairman of the Swedish Universities’ Intellectual Property Professionals. He has been working at the Innovation Office of Linköping University for 12 years. Previously he worked as a patent attorney for differ-ent Swedish firms and before that again in industry as an IPR coordinator managing Swedish and US patent portfolios. He also worked for six months in the TTO at the University of California, Berkeley.

Sigmar Lampe Has a background in semiconductor engineering but these days he is an IP and licensing counsel at the TTO of the Uni-versity of Luxembourg. He is in charge of the inventions and patent portfolio, and looks after the licensing processes for in-ventions and software. He is a European patent and trademark attorney and worked in private practice for more than ten years before joining the University in 2011. At the University’s doctoral school, he teaches a course on IP, R&D and technol-ogy transfer.

Toni Lopez-Carrasco ComajuncosasPhysicist, lawyer and European patent attorney. Former patent examiner at the EPO and Head of Patent Department in pri-vate practice. At present he is an in-house counsel at Telefoni-ca in IPR strategic business support, i.e. portfolio management, licensing, litigation, technology transfer and monetisation. He teaches on post-graduate university courses and frequently gives lectures to international audiences. He coordinates the CEIPI course on European patent law in Barcelona.

Silke Meyns Studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg and got her PhD in food science from ETH Zurich. She joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, where she headed the analytical lab for surface water and biological material for nine years. In 2001 she joined ETH transfer as tech-nology transfer manager. After further education in IP law, she now heads the group “Patents and Licenses” at ETH transfer. In 2008 she received a CAS in General Management from the Institute for Strategy and Business Economics of the University of Zurich. She is a member of LES Switzerland (Licensing Execu-tive Society), swiTT (Swiss Technology Transfer Association) and GDCh (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker).

Andreea Monnat Holds a doctorate in computer science, focusing on parallel systems. After her postdoctoral studies, she became active in research management at the National Research Fund, which is the national agency for promoting and funding research activities in Luxembourg. As Head of Innovation Programmes, she developed and implemented strategies for national fund-ing programmes with the goal of turning high-impact research into commercially-viable innovations and promoting strong interaction between the public and private sectors. She is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional who is passionate about disruptive technological innovation and entrepreneur-ship.

Fabio MontobbioAssociate Professor of Economics at the Institute of Economic Policy, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. Contract professor at Bocconi University, Visiting Fellow at iCRIOS (Bocconi University) and affiliate at the Collegio Carlo Alberto (Moncalieri). His research interest is in economics of innova-tion and extends to the economics of patents, university tech-nology transfer, the new economics of science, and technology and development. He has many publications in international journals on academic patenting and knowledge transfer. His teaching activity is in industrial economics, economics of inno-vation and intellectual property rights. He has been a consult-ant to the European Commission and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Alexandros Papaderos Is Deputy Head of the Office for Research and Innovation of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Head of TUM Patents and Licences. He coordinates the technology transfer activities at TUM. His track record includes numer-ous IP commercialisation cases, negotiation and conclusion of research collaboration contracts with academic and industrial partners as well as the support of the creation of university start-ups and spin-offs.

Ulf PetrussonProfessor of Law at the University of Gothenburg; Director at the Institute for Innovation and Social Change at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg; Director for the Center for Intellectual Property at the Univer-sity of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology and Norwegian University of Science and Technology; Profes-sor II at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Engaged in research focused on law and technology with a specific interest in how technology and other knowledge can be claimed and managed as assets and property at the interface of research and innovation for both industry and uni-versities. Engaged in the development of several entrepreneur-ship education modules across multiple faculties, including engineering, law, medicine, and business. Member of several boards and advisory boards including the Swedish Patent and Registration Office.

Riccardo Pietrabissa Is Professor of Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano, where he teaches endoprosthesis design, patenting and intellectual property. In 2001 he established the TTO of the Politecnico di Milano. In 2002 he was among the founders of the Italian Network for Technology Transfer (Netval) and was its Presi-dent till 2013. He won the Bridge Award 2009, awarded to the individual who has done the most to promote policies for entrepreneurship in university or public research institutions, and the Italian 2016 Research Transfer Award.

Serge QuazzottiDirector of the Institute of Intellectual Property Luxembourg (IPIL) since its creation in 2015. PhD in organic chemistry, formerly worked as a scientific researcher. Active in IP, with a particular interest in patent information, he has been actively involved in the creation and development of the technology watch department in CRP Henri Tudor Luxembourg since 1994. He has initiated many EU projects in the field of IP, has been invited to join IP expert groups at the European Commission, and was a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the European Patent Academy.

Alain Rodermann Is founder and managing partner of Expon Capital, a global VC firm based in Luxembourg, focusing on early-stage exponen-tial growth of digital ventures. He has been an active investor in venture capital firms since 1997. He was involved in several university spin-offs, was a lead investor in many early and late-stage ventures and served as a board member in 25+ high-tech and biotech companies across Europe and in the USA. Holds an MSc in robotics and artificial intelligence from Supelec, an MBA from Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and a BA in art history.

Marc SchiltzPhD in physics (crystallography), executive MBA from INSEAD. Has been active in research and higher education in several European countries for more than 20 years and is a recognised scientist in his field. Expert in strategic research management and organisation. Since 2011 has headed the National Research Fund, the central agency for promoting and funding research activities in Luxembourg. In this role, he has significantly contributed to the quality of Luxembourg’s research system and to the building of bridges with the private sector and the international scientific community. Represents Luxembourg in international organisations such as the Global Research Coun-cil, and has been an elected member of the Governing Board of Science Europe since 2015.

Eric TschirhartSpecial advisor for technology transfer and fundraising at the University of Luxembourg. Managing IP valorisation, licensing contracts, pre-seed funding and spin-offs’ prospects. He has a PhD in pharmacology and an MBA, and has worked in the pharmaceutical industry and public research. He joined the University of Luxembourg in 2002, contributing to the expan-sion of life sciences in Luxembourg, before taking several managerial positions in research, finance & administration, and academic organisation. He also teaches physiology on medical and life sciences programmes.

Jean-Michel ZillioxDirector at the EPO’s European Patent Academy since 2005. He led the preparations for the Academy’s establishment, having headed its precursor – the EPO International Academy – as of 2002. Prior to that he held positions as Assistant to the EPO Vice-President International & Legal Affairs and Project Direc-tor for the EU-China IP Rights Co-operation Programme. He graduated in electronic engineering in 1980 and got a post-graduate degree in biomedical engineering in 1981.
