From: Beaubrun Exumene To: President and members of the Security Council of the UN Object: Compensation for all cholera victims Date: November 29, 2015 CC: Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General CC: Evans Paul, Prime Minister of Haiti Mr. President, I salute you in the name of God in Heaven. My name is Beaubrun Exumene. I live in Octavan, and my identity card number is: 05-09-99-1935-08-00001. I am one of the victims of the cholera epidemic brought to the country by MINUSTHA. When my symptoms started, I first felt pain near my heart, and then I started with vomiting, and after that came the diarrhea. Luckily, my child had prepared me plenty of oral serum, and when I finally got to the hospital, the doctors took over with IV Hydration. It’s by the grace of God that I am still here. I was nearer to death than life because of that disease given to me by MINUSTHA…

Mr. President,
I am happy to be writing you this letter and would like to take this opportunity to
greet you. My name is Thomas Hector. I am 23 years old and I live in Otovan. My
identification number is 05-09-92-1992-03-001872.
I am one of those who caught cholera. This illness caused me to vomit intensely
and gave me diarrhea. My mother gave me a lot of oral serum until I arrived at the
hospital in Verrettes. When I arrived, the doctor gave me an IV of serum. Once the
sickness had left me, I got a sharp pain in my stomach that has not gone away. For
this reason I am asking that the United Nations take responsibility for what has
happened to me, a victim of cholera.

To: The President and Members of the United Nations Security Council
My name is Politès. I caught cholera from untreated drinking water because my
family does not have enough money to buy treated water. When I caught the
sickness, I lost control of my body. I could not stop vomiting or having diarrhea,
which made me very dehydrated, and I wished I were dead. Only after days of oral
and intravenous serum did I make a recovery. For this reason we are demanding
that the United Nations pay us damages for its actions because we never used to
have this disease.

Subject: Demand for Justice and Reparations
My name is Orelyen Pierre. I am a victim of cholera. The sickness first affected me
while I was in the field. When it struck, I stopped being able to walk. I began to
vomit and have diarrhea uncontrollably. I lost the ability to speak. They brought
me to a health center where I spent three days taking oral and intravenous serum.
Afterwards they transferred me to a hospital where I spent seven days.
To pay for all of this, I had to sell two goats and one cow. And as if that wasn’t
enough, I developed hemorrhoids, which means I am still paying money to treat
my illness. For these reasons, I demand that the United Nations Security Council
with the Martelly-Paul government help me and all cholera victims in Haiti find
justice and compensation.

Subject: Demand for Justice and Reparations
I, Gezitha Louis, am a severe victim of cholera. When I got sick, I lost everything I
possessed because there was no one to look after my affairs while I was
recovering. Everything I had was stolen.
I succumbed to cholera in the fields, and when they brought me to the hospital,
they had to give me 25 intravenous serum doses and 80 oral serum doses. Since
then, I continue to be afflicted with other health problems. I vomited so heavily
during my cholera that my stomach opened.

Mr. President, I see that today is a grand day for me, as I write you concerning the illness
of cholera that ravaged me. My name is Zando Vilné, I live in Makak and my
identification number is as follows: 05-09-99-1968-10-00009. When the illness befell me,
it made my head spin, I was not well at all, but my wife prepared many types of serum
[medication] for me to be taken orally. And when I arrived at the hospital in Mirebalais, it
was at this time that the doctor gave me three serums for me to take when I left the
hospital. It was my wife who borrowed a motorcycle to take me to the hospital. The
motorcycle chauffeur made my wife pay $250 gourdes. Moreover, it was MINUSTAH
that gave me this cholera illness.
I am requesting recompense for me and especially for all of the victims of cholera.

pain, breakdown on top of breakdown of my systems. I had no physical energy.
And all of this forced me to spend everything. And now I am asking for justice for
the suffering I endured and for damages for these gigantic abuses which the UN
soldiers brought. I need this to get into a better physical state and good health.
And so I sign with my fingerprint.

Re: Demand for Justice and Compensation for the Victims of Cholera
Excellencies,
I greet you in the name of my country and I congratulate you for the work that you
have done and that you will continue to do more always to help the victims of
cholera to obtain justice and compensation, in accordance with the laws of my
country and international human rights law.
I am Darius Ydanis. I am 48 years old. I live in the Bauri neighborhood of the
first Section of Rikano in the commune of Saut d’Eau.
I had a relative named Vaicilet Darius. He had cholera and died in June 2012. I
myself took him to the health center in Saut d’Eau for the treatment of cholera
while he suffered greatly. He had great stomach pains, vomiting, diarrhea, and
despite the support I gave him, he died. He left 8 children to live in the street and
they are enduring great misery. They cannot go to school.
I am asking you to help me so that they can find justice, welfare, and
compensation. Thank you for your understanding and attention. May God bless
you in abundance.
