Ron Collier and Indiana Members

Credit UnionR on Collier is a philanthropist committed to

helping Hoosiers and particularly Indiana’s students. Born and raised in Central Indiana, Collier graduated from Warren Central High School. After earning a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Ball State University and teaching for a time at Noblesville High School, Collier accepted the challenge of a new career as Training Director for the Indiana Credit Union League. He later became Vice President of Planning and Development and eventually stepped into his current position as CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union.

Indiana Members Credit Union cares about the community and feels it has a social responsibility to give back, and as CEO, Collier serves on the Make-A-Wish board, the St. Francis Hospital Foundation board, and the CUNA National Youth Involvement board. Since Collier’s own philanthropic philosophy mirrors that of the IMCU, his personal community

involvement includes participation on the planning committee for the New Palestine Relay for Life, President of the New Palestine High School Baseball Backers, and football referee. In addition, Collier has also been a participant in fundraisers for Make-A-Wish, Riley Hospital for Children, Relay for Life, and has put into place programs at IMCU that help support BackPack Attack.

As a former educator, Collier understands the connection between higher education and a strong community; that is why Collier and

Indiana Members Credit Union have graciously given to IUPUI. For University College’s New Student Welcome, Collier and IMCU have donated picnic blankets and backpacks for 1,000 students in each of the past two years.

In addition, Indiana Members Credit Union has set up a scholarship to help support a college student in need. IMCU understands the importance of receiving a valuable education, and coupled with its philosophy of “People Helping People” it feels the need to help students achieve that important goal of a college degree. To emphasize and promote the company’s philanthropic service philosophy, scholarship applicants are required to write a short essay telling how they have given back to the community through volunteer work.

IMCU has found it significant to work with University College and IUPUI because it was first founded on the IUPUI campus in 1956 and because it shares the same values. Because of its history and involvement with IUPUI and the community, Indiana Members Credit Union recently joined in a partnership with IUPUI to become the university’s exclusive bank. Since moving the branch to the IUPUI Campus Center, foot traffic has increased, and it draws new customers every day with the offer of free checking as well as IUPUI logoed debit cards and checks.

IMCU has also formed a relationship with University College to write a column for FamilyEd, a quarterly publication for pre-college and first-year students and their families. Many relevant topics are covered in the publication, but for its part, Indiana Members Credit Union is now able to reach a prime young audience with relevant information about budgeting money, daily finances, loan offers, and the consequences of identity theft and credit cards.

Collier and IMCU should feel proud of their accomplishments and for the community support they give. The IUPUI campus and community appreciates all their hard work and dedication benefitting higher education and particularly their support of University College.
