The dining room, auditorium and kitchen are on the ground floor of the Residents’ Building. The other three floors provide rooms for Residents of various capabilities, including Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Residential Living.

Wheelchairs and walkers cause damage to doorways and floor trim.

Flooring and wallpaper seams lift from water damage.

Over the years, contributions to the Circle of Friends have helped the Little Sisters accomplish many needed repairs. This year’s Annual appeal goes toward updating the corridors and community areas in the building where the Residents live.

At the time the building opened in 1979, it was considered state of the art in design and comfort for seniors. However,

time marches on. Decorating and life style trends change. Floors, walls, and doorways take the abuse of daily use. The ocean air, rain damage and hot summer days add to the wear and tear. Before you know it, not only does our space look rough around the edges, it has the overall feel of being stuck in a distant decade.

This year’s project is to revisit our interior look and make revisions in color while adding visual interest to create a clean and attractive design. With well-chosen changes we believe we can transform the environment without incuring major expenses.

The future look will be in line with what our residents find inviting and livable. It must appeal to senior at all levels: active adults, assisted living, as well as skilled nursing. We want the perfect balance between user-friendly and attractive.

An additional goal is to create appealing common areas that will encourage Residents to get out of their apartments and rooms. These areas will almost seem like extension to their private space.

We want to incorporate as much of our existing furnishings into the new design program and successfully make it feel as if

it has all been designed and appropriately planned together.

We look forward to having you assist us in this important project to achieve a warm and tasteful upgrade to our Residents’ Building that will create the comfort and order of Home for many years to come.

The Little Sisters of the Poor provide a loving Home for nearly 100 elderly. Care levels include Independent Living Apt., Residential Living, Assisted Living, & Skilled Nursing. Each year the Little Sisters must raise over 60% of their operating costs from donations, events and estate gifts.

Annual Appeal 2011-2012For the Little Sisters of the Poor

Thank you for helping fund the new electrical upgrades. This was the most essential element to make the project viable.

New double pane windows were installed in every room, replacing the aluminum fixtures from the 1960’s. The quiet and energy efficiency is already very apparent.

The meeting room (above) has new sheet flooring, window treatments and fresh paint.

* The Board of Advisors & many of our Circle of Friends also contributed to the Auxiliary's appeal (Choir of Angels). We thank you for supporting both appeals.

**We regret that many kind gifts of $49 or less could not be included in this publication.

The kitchen was updated with new sheet flooring, cabinets, counter tops, paint and light fixtures.

Each sleeping room was freshly painted and received new light fixtures and window treatments.

Ten Year History of the Board of Adviors’ Circle Friends Annual Appeal.

September 2011 Dear Friends,

We proudly present the results of our 10th Circle of Friends Annual Appeal. You generously responded with $124,200 for the revitalizatin of an aging building into a suitable hospitality and meeting center.

Our goal was to launch the project by raising the funds for the electrical, heating & plumbing upgrades. Other foundations and benefactors have supported this project and the results are truly wonderful.

The building is still the same size and shape, but it is newly energized from the repairs and redecorating. This functional and welcoming center has already hosted a nearly two week retreat for over seventeen Little Sisters from all over the United States.

The Sisters look forward to proactive use of the building to benefit the order in many new ways. Thank you for joining us to help with this effort.

FROM:

The congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor was founded in Brittany, France by St. Jeanne Jugan in 1839 with the mission to serve the elderly poor. Today 2,700 Little Sisters serve in over 200 homes in 31 countries.

They have served in Southern California since 1905. They provide a loving Home for nearly one hundred elderly. Care levels include Independent Living Apartments, Residential Living, Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing. Each year the Little Sisters must raise over 60% of their operating costs from gifts, bequests and donated commodities.

The continuation of this ministry is made possible by the generosity of many benefactors who share with the Sisters a deep belief in the dignity of every life and a desire to assist those who are less fortunate in the most vulnerable phase of their lives.
