ARTS ACADEMY NEWS MOVE IT 2019 RESIDENTIAL TRIP This month, a number of our current Sixth Form Arts Academy students and Y11 Dance

students attended a trip to London. During the trip, we were lucky enough to see the

West End musical "Wicked" starring one of Rainhill Sixth Form graduates, Scott Sutcliffe.

It was a fantastic experience for our students to see one of their peers perform in a

west end production. Scott was able to come and meet the students following the

show for a Q&A session.

We then attended the MOVE IT 2019 After Dark Showcase to watch the fantastic

dance company "The Royal Family" perform a two hour show stopping performance.

We were also able to meet up with Rainhill Sixth Form graduate, Alice Scott, who is

currently studying Musical Theatre at the prestigious Italia Conti Theatre Academy.

Alice shared her experience as a performer in training with the students to give them

an insight into what it is like to be at a high performing conservatoire.

The next day, we attended the MOVE IT conference which showcased the Post 18

training opportunities on offer as well as a number of workshops by industry

professionals. Whilst at the conference, we were able to meet up with Rainhill Sixth

Form graduates, Daniel Forster (2nd year) and Megan Rhys-Jones (1st year), who are

both studying at the amazing Masters College of Performing Arts. Daniel was

performing throughout the event on the main stage which was inspiring for our

students to see.

The students were brilliant ambassadors for the school and Sixth Form and had a

thoroughly brilliant experience.

Mrs Renison, Head of Performing Arts.

COMPUTING AT PGL 2019 On Friday 22nd March, Year 8 pupils were lucky enough to visit PGL

Winmarleigh Hall for the weekend.

The Year 8 Computing weekend residential trip was a chance for our younger

students to develop their confidence, independence, knowledge of computing and

teamwork in a fun, activity-filled environment focused on outdoor skills. Not only did

the trip foster friendships and improve students’ self-esteem levels, it also stimulated

their social development and problem solving abilities.

Whilst a team of teachers were there to help out with anything the students needed,

specially trained staff from the adventure holiday company PGL led exciting activities,

from building robots and creating animations to flying down the zip-wire and tackling

the climbing wall. It was a great experience!

Mrs Jenner, Mrs Martin and Mr Owens.

NATIONAL CITIZEN SERVICE PROGRAMME Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are pleased to confirm NCS and ourselves have partnered again this

year with 63 of our young people already signed up to the programme.

For those that are unaware, the National Citizen Service is a 3 week

programme in the Summer which is split up into 3 phases:

ADVENTURE: Phase 1 - Feel the freedom of the outside world during five days

away from home, taking on adrenaline-fuelled activities like rock climbing,

canoeing and archery. Your team will cheer you along every step of the way,

sharing in every challenge, every success. Then you’ll have a few days back at

home for a much-needed rest!

DISCOVERY: Phase 2 - Expect transformation, because this week is all about

developing YOU. Living independently, you’ll learn essential life skills from local

business leaders and charities, gain confidence in public speaking,

communications skills and budgeting. It all looks great on your CV, whatever you

do next.

SOCIAL ACTION: Phase 3 - Now it’s time to make your mark. Back at home,

you and your team will devise a social action project based on an issue you feel

passionate about. You have the skills and confidence to do anything – the more

original, the better! This is your chance to feel proud by making a real difference

in your community.

All 3 weeks offer different life skills and challenges to all young people.

The cost of the Programme is £50 but please do not let price be a barrier to signing

your son/daughter up and if this price is a problem, please contact us directly and we

can discuss this further.

The NCS team visited school on Wednesday 3rd April 2019 to discuss the programme

with the young people already signed up and the young people that are unsure and

have further questions.

If you would like your son/daughter to sign up for this programme, there are 2 ways of

doing this by either going online and searching NCS (NCSYES.CO.UK) or call the team

on 0800 197 8010.

Miss Fryer, Year 11 Progress Leader.
