Whole School Assembly Our next whole school assembly will be held next Thursday afternoon, 11th September at 2:10pm. Children will be receiving their Beez Neez awards and we will be entertained by performances from 3V and 3H. The Technology Group have prepared a video around what they are creating during their lunchtime interest group. It is always a great time, so make sure you come along to support your child and celebrate their achievements.

Shhhhhhhhh! It’s a Secret ~ Father’s Day Stall Last Thursday the students had the opportunity to buy a gift for their dads, pops, uncles and family members who are very special to them. Thank you to Therese Small and her band of helpers for ensuring that our students remember, and celebrate, this very special occasion. It is always great to see the excitement on our children’s faces when they choose a gift themselves. I take this opportunity to wish all our dads a very Happy Father’s Day.

Lunchtime Activities — Touch Football Harry Jarrett and Rhuben Blair will be regular features in the playground on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during lunchtime. They will be training our touch football teams to build their skills for the Cactus Moran Cup to be held later in the year. They are starting off with the Junior Boy and Senior Boy touch teams, and then the Senior Girl touch football team. To qualify for the Cactus Moran Cup, the teams need to be mixed so there will be an opportunity for other students to try out for the teams that will compete on the day. Macksville PS won the cup in its inaugural year and we have our sights on winning it back.

Professional Learning for our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 Teachers Kim Attenborough, our Literacy and Numeracy Instructor, is working between Macksville PS and Nambucca Heads PS to build literacy and numeracy skills across our K-2 students. As part of this program, staff from both

schools participated in a Writing workshop led by Louise Blomfield, a Literacy and Numeracy Leader across the region. This was a great opportunity to share ideas and strategies in developing writing skills in the early years of schooling. Staff from both schools found the professional learning extremely informative and gave them quality teaching ideas to add to their Literacy sessions in their classrooms.

2015 ANZAC PROJECT

All ANZAC Projects are due by Wednesday 29th October as they must be in the display cabinet at Macksville

Ex Services Club by Sunday 1st November ready for Armistice Day, 11th November.

Our projects will also be used in the dedication to the new Macksville Cenotaph.

The Nambucca Valley Community of Schools is working with the 2015 ANZAC Day committee. To help MPS students understand that the ‘ANZACs’ were real people, each school is researching one of the soldiers who have their name on the cenotaph in their town. This is not a competition that will be judged, it is to respectfully remember the soldiers from the Nambucca Valley who served our country. There is also an option to research a member of your family who has served in any of the wars. This project is not compulsory and students may choose to do research individually, with families, in pairs, in groups or as a class. Work can be presented in any medium that the students choose. Projects will also be displayed at the Frank Partridge VC Military Museum in Bowraville in 2015. BE CREATIVE! Please contact Mrs Grace or your child’s teacher if you would like to be involved in the project, have questions or would like a project sheet to follow.

3H Drama

Last week 3H participated in a very exciting video conference with the Monkey Baa Theatre, located at the Sydney Opera House. They took part in different hands-on activities, where they had to act out different shapes as a group and show emotions that different images invoked. Oscar was able to act alongside a student from a school in Tasmania, they had to act out a scene together. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we look forward to more acting and dramatic improvisation in 3H. Mrs Herron

REMEMBER…… Our Bookweek Parade is Friday 12th September.

Everyone is welcome to come and watch.
