“Good Neighbors” by the Health & Safety Committee During daily trips up and down the corridors of The Terraces, we pass by
many doors of our fellow residents. We admire the expressions of individuality adorned on the purse shelves. But these areas can also display signs of needed action. Have you ever passed by and seen a stack of newspapers piling up? This could be a sign that a neighbor is on leave, but it holds potential that a neighbor may not be feeling well. What can you do? Try knocking on the door or ringing the door bell and offering to bring the papers inside. No response? Contact Concierge so that they can send a team to perform a well check and provide any needed assistance; even if it’s just scheduling a trip to the doctor. These actions promote us in being “Good Neighbors” and support the wellbeing of all those who reside at the Terraces.
Festival of Great Organ Music Hear the finest organists in Southwest Florida play the magnificent 3,604-pipe Casavant organ. The concert will showcase a wide range of music.

Happy Anniversary! For those residents who have been with The Terraces since 2013, you’ve had the privilege to see this beautiful building evolve from construction and hard hats to a place you call home. For those residents who may be new to The Terraces, we’ve come a long way. As I sit here and write this article, our residents have a drink in their hand and are celebrating the rarely missed tradition of Thursday Happy Hour. However, there’s another reason to celebrate. July marks the four year anniversary of The Terraces and I’m proud to say I’ve dedicated the early years of my career at the best retirement community in SW Florida. As I reminisce over the last year, I watched our very own Executive Chef compete in the Taste of Collier event in Naples, FL. He competed against top chefs in the area and made a Nouveau Nicoise Salad that earned a 1st place trophy in what I consider to be the most competitive market in the state. I remember when The Terraces held their version of Dancing with The Stars. Three of our associates trained with professional dancers and then competed against one another over dinner in the Performing Arts Center. David from our Maintenance department wowed residents with his slick dance moves and you voted him the winner. The welcome back luau was a hit as the kitchen prepared a roasted pig while live parrots and cockatoos filled the courtyard. We opted out of fire dancers in year two, but Edwin was thrilled to leave the fire extinguishers back at the Maintenance shop. I could go on, but the most memorable and rewarding part of our time at the community is serving the residents who call this building home. The constant smiles throughout the hall are a reminder that our mission and purpose is to enrich your lives. I look forward to another fantastic year at The Terraces and creating more memories with each of you. Happy Anniversary Terraces! Anthony

July is National Blueberry Month! Kathy Mielke, Wellness Coordinator As one of the few fruits native to North America, blueberries were a staple in the diet of Native Americans for hundreds of years. When the first colonists arrived, they were shown how to gather blueberries, dry them in the sun, store them for winter, and grow them. In the US, blueberries rank second only to strawberries in popularity of berries. Besides tasting GREAT, they contain vitamins K and C, fiber, and manganese, and have one of the highest antioxidant capacities among all fruits, vegetables, spices and seasonings. For this reason, some nutritionists believe that if you decide to make only one change to your diet, it should be to add blueberries. These wonderful antioxidants help to combat the free radicals that can damage cellular structures, particularly in the fight against breast cancer, colon cancer, esophageal cancer, and cancers of the small intestine. Other health benefits of blueberries include cardio
support, raising HDL’s {good cholesterol} and lowering LDL’s {bad cholesterol}. They may also help lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as assist in the prevention of macular degeneration and urinary tract infections. Rather than relying upon blueberries cooked into baked desserts, where there is usually added sugars and fats, you should eat them by the handful: raw blueberries provide you with the best flavor and the greatest nutritional benefits. Kathy is pictured on the family’s Michigan blueberry farm, on the “new fangeled” picking machine! Circa: late 1960’s! {She’s the cute little one on the left, with Dad and older sister Karen}
