Meadows Place Made the List– Three Times!!I am proud to share some professional poll results. A recent poll targeting Young Professional (ages 22-29) listed Meadows Place #2 of 22 great places to live, leading all other Fort Bend cities! The pollsters found “The small community of Meadows

Place provides a quiet suburban oasis after a long day of work.” (We know that but I don’t know who told them) “Large single family homes with sizable backyards are common in Meadows Place” making it an ideal place to settle and raise a family. They also pointed to high rankings in median earnings and the number of residents with professional occupations. Other strong points include: location, access to big city amenities, great parks and local fitness opportunities. Following Meadows Place – in order- were: Richmond; Alvin; Rosenberg; League City; South Houston; Spring; Webster; Friendswood; Humble; Atascocita; Manvel; Missouri City; Tomball; Pearland; Shenandoah; Oak Ridge North; Stafford; Sugar Land; The Woodlands and Katy.

That powerful list of communities makes the Meadows Place ranking even more impressive. We want and welcome Young Professionals since that’s how our town got started.

Did You Know... I pulled up to City Hall and it looked like a Flea Market under

the covered parking. Seems Officer Mezegabe and MPPD had a very good night catching bad guys and

recovering stolen items. And it all started when one of our neighbors called and said they saw what might

be suspicious activity. MPPD responded, hunted them down, used trap tactics and found a car full of stolen

goods and a group of bad guys that wished they had never crossed that line into Meadow Place. This all started

with a phone call from one of our citizens - just like Sgt. Simmons urged at a recent Neighborhood Watch.

Did You Know... Meadows Place looked GREAT on Memorial Day? Even

with all the rain, most homes were freshly mowed and manicured but the highlight of the

day were all the flags put out by the Scouts. I couldn’t help but feel proud of our city for responding in such a way that really helped memorialize our veterans, past and present. Thanks Scouts and way to go Meadows Place ! Did You Know... that this is the first time we have hired a lifeguard that is born in THIS century? Wow, how time flies! It just seems like yesterday the world was panicking over Y2K. Oh, she also told me another piece of fun lifeguard trivia - None of the lifeguards have a summer birthday. Not even one. How about that? Anyway, Thank You

Lifeguards, regardless of what century you were born in. Did You Know... the Meadows Place Community Garden is coming right along – and growing? (pun intended) Thanks go out to everyone who has helped launch this wonderful

new city symbol. If you haven’t seen it, go up to the park and check it out and follow them on Facebook at Meadows Place Community Garden. . This is such a great addition to our city and one more reason Meadows Place is… Your Place for Life! Did You Know... we had two Meadows Place students make it to the State tournament recently held in Austin for National History Day? Michael Brough and Ethan Chow had to earn their way to State by being chosen from their schools and then participating in the regional tournament in Fort Bend. Only the top two contenders in each area advance to the State tournament, so it was quite exciting to have two from Meadows Place make it. The theme this year was Leadership and Legacy. Well, our little one square mile city has a great legacy and produced some awesome young leaders! Looks like we have two more.

Did You Know... that Gloria Court is very proud of her daughter Kaylyn - and rightfully so? You see, Kaylyn graduated from Houston Baptist University on May 16 with a major in Mathematics Education and she graduated Magna Cum Laude! Kaylyn attended Meadows Elementary where she learned how to learn and is now looking forward to teaching kids math. Congratulations to Kaylyn and the whole the Court family!

Did You Know... that Meadows Place was invited to participate in a major piece of transportation history? After 20 years of working for a commuter rail line along 90A, we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it is a train! This is still a long way off, but Congressman John Culberson, Congressman Al Green, Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella and Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen were also on hand to see this important documentation signed in downtown Houston. Someday we may be able to drive down to Hwy. 90 and take a train to the Med Center or Houston to see the Astros play. All aboard!

Did You Know... as usual, Meadows Place turned out a higher voting percentage than the County average - despite the fact that we did not have a city election? This was noticed by both elected officials and County Elections Administrator John Oldham, who is looking for permanent countywide polling locations. These new voting centers will allow everyone in the county to vote on any race during early voting and on election day. With turnouts like this, and our great location, Meadows Place is now assured one of these new voting centers.

(Comments From The Mayor continued from page 1) Meadows Place to get AmbulanceThe first order of business is to thank Fort Bend County Health and Human Services Director Dr. M. desVignes-Kendrick, MD, MPH and new Director of Fort Bend Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Graig Temple, who had to hit the ground running to find the best overall EMS solution. After months of discussions, fact checking, and meetings, Fort Bend County has agreed to terms with the City of Meadows Place and will place a fully equipped, staffed, transport capable, intensive care unit (aka Ambulance) in Meadows Place. This is fantastic news as not many 1 sq. mile cities have their own Police Department, Fire Station and house an EMS crew too. Locating an ambulance in Meadows Place is part of a recent re-evaluation of County EMS assets designed to meet both current and future needs of Fort Bend County. We held frank, open conversations about our desires for the residents of Meadows Place, Fort Bend County and Stafford. We also need to thank our County Judge Bob Hebert, our County Commissioners and the City of Stafford. This could not have been done without the efforts of Mayor Leonard Scarcella and Fire Chief Larry DiCamillo, who worked so hard to document how coverage affected response times. Our location helped of course, but so did our Meadows Place Economic Development Corporation which voted unanimously to financially support this project with the anticipated expenses in securing a housing site for the EMS staff. This was an arduous, often tense, time consuming process but once again, Meadows Place, cooperating with our neighbors for the betterment of all, shows why we are… Your Place for Life!

April Showers may have brought May flowers, but it also brought us Low

hanging Tree limbs.

To give you an idea just how much rain, the total for Jan-April 2014 was 7.71 inches. The same time period of this year, we received 19.94 inches. That’s 12.23 inches over! Our trees are loving it and GROWING! The problem is that now the limbs are well below our ordinance height of 16’ over the street, and 10’ over sidewalks.

Trees are a valuable asset to properties and the environment. In many parts of the city, tree canopy provides shade and significantly reduces utility bills. Mature healthy trees can increase a property’s value by as much as 25 percent.

Trees must be properly maintained and pruned for the health of the tree as well as for public safety. The City’s tree trimming ordinance was put in place to ensure that large vehicles such as fire trucks, school buses, ambulances, and garbage trucks are able to navigate and operate safely, and to allow pedestrians to walk on the sidewalks without veering out into the roadway to avoid limbs.

Overhanging tree limbs can delay emergency vehicles when seconds make the difference between life and death. Clearance is essential for the visibility of traffic signs and signals. Trees should be trimmed with pruning shears, not fire trucks that can cause irreversible damage to trees and trucks.

It is best to hire a professional arborist if tree limbs are large or cannot be safely reached, if pruning involves the use of power equipment, or if pruning is needed near power lines.

The annual Meadows Place 4th of July Parade

will be on Saturday, July 4th at 10 am. Make plans now to be a part of the best hometown parade around. The honorable Charles Jessup along with City Council members and their families will be a special part of the annual parade.

Trophies for the Best Youth, Best Spirit and Best

Recreation Department. Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the parade in McGrath Park. Get your neighbors together and plan your entry; size is not important. Patriotism, simplicity, originality, creativity and community spirit are what excite the judges. The judging table will be set up at the Community Center to view all entries as they pass. All entries will be categorized and judged accordingly. Download the parade entry form from the City website: cityofmeadowsplace.org. Please return your entry form before Friday, June 26th, 2015.

Line-up for the parade at Sugar Grove Church of Christ’s east parking lot, 11600 W. Airport, Meadows Place; enter from West Airport ONLY and check in with a parade official. Vehicles not participating in the parade may park in the west parking lot.

Judging of the non-motorized entries, according to age groups, will take place at 9:30 am SHARP! Non-motorized entries do not need to fill out an entry form. All you have to do is show up by 9 am for the judging!

The parade travels from City Hall down Dorrance to Mulholland, left on Mulholland and left on Brighton concluding at McGrath Park.

Sources of Drinking Water

The sources of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally-occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances resulting from the presence of animals or from human activity.

Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the EPAs Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791.

Contaminants that may be present in source water include:

- Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, and wildlife.

- Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturally-occurring or result from urban storm water runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining, or farming.

- Pesticides and herbicides, which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture, urban storm water runoff, and residential uses.

- Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and can also come from gas stations, urban storm water runoff, and septic systems. - Radioactive contaminants, which can be naturally-occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities.

In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations which limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. FDA regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water which must provide the same protection for public health.

Contaminants may be found in drinking water that may cause taste, color, or odor problems. These types of problems are not necessarily causes for health concerns. For more information on taste, odor, or color of drinking water, please contact the system's business office.

You may be more vulnerable than the general population to certain microbial contaminants, such as Cryptosporidium, in drinking water. Infants, some elderly, or immunocompromised persons such as those undergoing chemotherapy for cancer; persons who have undergone organ transplants; those who are undergoing treatment with steroids; and people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, can be particularly at risk from infections. You should seek advice about drinking water from your physician or health care providers. Additional guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by Cryptosporidium are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. We are responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but we cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Aquatic News

SUMMER IS HERE AND THE POOL IS OPEN!!! Normal weekday operating hours begin Tuesday, June 9th. See a detailed list of pool operating days and hours on page 18. Please read the back of your pool registration card for an updated list of the pool rules; the rules are also posted on the marquee inside the pool area.

Wrist Bands will need to be purchased again this year for pool access. Wrist bands will be available for purchase during normal operating hours at the Pool. Seasonal wrist bands are available only to residents of the City of Meadows Place for the 2015 summer. Wrist bands are $5 per band. See details in the Pool Access section.

Inclement Weather Policy: If a lifeguard hears thunder or sees lightning, the pool must be immediately evacuated and will remain closed for 30 minutes after every heard thunder or seen lightning. All guests should stay under the covered patio or head home. If the pool has been closed for an hour, all guests will be asked to leave. If you are questioning whether the pool is open or not, feel free to call the Pool Telephone at 281.498.9047.

Pool activities for this summer include World’s Largest Swimming Lesson for a Guinness World Record™, Adult Lap Swim, Swim Lessons, Water Aerobics, Bare Foot N’ Friday and Splash Night! Tattoo Tuesdays, Play @ the Pool Freezy Pop Fridays are back; the Lifeguards will let you pick a favorite tattoo on Tuesdays, play games on Thursdays and share their freezy pop stash on Fridays!

LIFEGUARDS ARE NOT BABYSITTERSThe Meadows Place Lifeguards are the best; they train before the summer and throughout the season and they take their job very seriously. The lifeguards are attentive and work on a rotation so that they will always be alert. But do not depend on them to babysit your kids. The lifeguards are there to make sure swimmers follow the safety rules and to help if anyone is in danger, but in a crowded pool even the best lifeguards can miss things.

When it comes to very young kids, children must not be left unattended at the pool even in the presence of lifeguards. Children 6 years of age and younger must be supervised and within arm’s reach of an adult. Parenting is your job, and drowning can happen in seconds.

Drowning remains the leading cause of accidental death for kids ages 1-5. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is taking place at the Pool on June 18th to help us send the vital message that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™ to millions of kids and adults around the globe! It’s a great way to assess how well your children can swim and get them a free lesson. And if they need to improve their skills, Swim Lessons are available through the
