Partnerships between industry and education are necessary to create and sustain a qualified workforce. Colorado’s

leading industries are focusing on talent development to maintain and grow business. In addition to a strong P20

pipeline, we must also focus on educating and training our adult population - incumbent worker career development,

career transitioners, veterans, and the underemployed - to fulfill our state’s workforce needs in the next few

years. Higher education plays an essential role in making that happen. Join our panelists from local employers and

higher education for an honest conversation about what is working and what we can improve in partnership.

With the emphasis on expanding apprenticeships for Americans to access as a proven path to employment, an industry

coalition and college partnered with Colorado energy companies to implement an innovative apprenticeship training

model that has enhanced workplace learning with the inclusion of credit-bearing instruction in a registered

apprenticeship program.

operation. Own Your Future serves students with prior convictions in navigating the higher education landscape. The

Colorado Challenge works with low-income, first generation students to increase persistence and completion rates.

Offering a holistic approach to supporting adults transitioning into college and employment, the Colorado Community College System is implementing career and college navigators to provide intensive support services to enhance student success. Participants in this session will learn about innovative navigator strategies and promising practices gleaned from recent projects.

This interactive session will explore the Denver Scholarship Foundation’s experience with a project designed to re-enroll

stopped-out college students by presenting them with information about careers in high-demand fields and connecting

them to resources necessary to pursue programs in those fields. Outcomes of the project will influence future

implementation strategies.

experienced software engineers to hire. The gap between academia and industry prevents many talented graduates

from gaining a foothold in industry. How is this gap being bridged?

What are employers doing to develop their employees? This panel session featuring two Colorado employers who are

serious about workforce development. Using 2014 data on employee development, panelists will answer a series of

planned and participant questions on the reasons their organizations make significant development in talent

This project has involved numerous public and private partners from around the region including secondary and post-secondary schools and a large group of manufacturing industry representatives. Today's degree-seeking students are often overwhelmed with personal demands preventing recurrent and constructive

student-faculty advising sessions. Additionally, some students do not understand the value of academic advising.

Nevertheless, effective and continual student advising increases retention and graduation rates. Quality advising

programs can be easily implemented at minimal cost, with clear outcomes.

Minding the Gap for Veterans and Other Adult Learners through Prior Learning Assessment
