The First Step in and Emergency Situation: AWARENESS
Some General Facts about CPR:•Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in adults.•CPR doubles the chance of a person’s survival from sudden cardiac arrest.•Recognize the signs and symptoms of cardiac events/sudden death emergencies (i.e. – heart attack, drowning, electrocution, and asphyxiation).

The Second Step in and Emergency Situation: 911
• Secure the scene.• Locate nearest phone.• Provide EMS with current address.• Provide phone number for EMS to contact.

The Third Step in and Emergency Situation: COMPRESSIONS
• Look, listen, and feel for any signs of breathing.• Position victim for compressions.• Ensure that compressions are performed at a depth
of two inches and at a rate of 100 per minute.• Continue compressions until the victim begins
breathing again or emergency personnel arrives.
