Headteacher’s Message Next week, I will be doing tours for prospective parents who
are wanting a Reception place for September 2018. I will continue to do these regularly this term and in Spring.
Our Early Years provision and teaching and learning is consistently good to outstanding and we know that teaching
across the school is securely good.
I know many of our parents are really happy about the
education that Garfield is giving their child. Please do spread the good word about us to other parents as we want to
welcome more pupils into our school where we have spaces. Wishing you all a happy weekend. Ms Karen Khwaja
NETBALL REPORT - Garfield 11-8 St Paul's Garfield played their first netball league fixture of the year on Tuesday against St Paul's Primary. The team, a mix of Years 5 and 6 girls, included some pupils playing their first competitive netball match but nonetheless we made a good start and came in 5-4 ahead at half time. St Paul's came out strong in the second half and took the lead, but some key interceptions from our defenders and a late burst of goals gave Garfield the win. A special mention goes to Jane, who scored all 11 goals for Garfield. Look out for more sports results soon! Mr Mckenzie PE Teacher
HARVEST ASSEMBLY Thank you for your wonderful generosity in donating so much food this year. The Harvest gifts have been gratefully received by local elderly residents and the Food Bank. Ms Walton Opal Class Teacher
POKEMON CARDS We notice that many of our pupils are currently enjoying playing with Pokeman Cards. All we ask is that there is no trading for money and pupils play co-operatively.
RECIPE OF THE WEEK FOR CHILDREN & PARENT
Eggy Fried Rice INGREDIENTS 200g basmati rice (or use cooked rice) 85g of carrot (diced) 1tbsp of vegetable oil 2 eggs 25g of butter 2 large spring onions, finely sliced 1tbsp soy sauce 85g of frozen peas
METHOD 1. Wash the rice and cook according to instructions in lightly salted
water with the diced carrots. About 5 minutes before it's ready, tip in the frozen peas.
2. While the rice is cooking, heat the oil in a small frying pan and
lightly beat the eggs with a little salt. Pour the eggs into the pan to coat the base, and cook until almost set as a thin omelette - for about 2-3 minutes. Flip the omelette to cook other for a few seconds, then slide it out of the pan and roll it up into a sausage shape. Keep warm.
3. Melt the butter in a wok or large frying pan and sauté the spring onions for 1 minute. Fluff up the rice mixture with a fork (there should be no cooking liquid left). Tip into the wok with the soy sauce and a little salt and freshly ground black pepper, then stir fry for 2 minutes.
4. Divide half the rice between two bowls, cut the omelette crossways
into strips and scatter over the top. (Keep the remaining rice in a cool place for later.)

YEARS 3 AND 4 TRIPS TO TRENT PARK
This week, Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a fun filled trip to Trent Park.
Children took part in exciting activities such as creating journey
trails, tree rubbings and a tree identification walk. The final creative
activity included re-creating ‘Andy Goldsworthy at work’, using
natural resources.
The children really enjoyed the day and will use all
they have learnt to enhance their knowledge for
their topic ‘The Enchanted Forest’.
