Our school leaders did a magnificent job hosting the assembly and our performance groups provided the entertainment. The students enjoyed showing off their classrooms and sharing a picnic lunch with their loved ones. Special thanks to the parents and staff who cooked such a delicious sausage sizzle. None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for the amazing, dedicated staff who put in countless hours behind the scenes organising these events. Year 5 & 6 STEM Showcase Congratulations to all Years 5 and 6 students who proudly showed off their STEM research and designs at last week’s showcase. Visitors learned a lot about propulsion. It was terrific to see our students engage so thoroughly in the scientific method including collecting and analysing data after experimentation. Guardian Realty Exclusive Offer!! Our great supporter Brett Humby from Guardian Realty has an ongoing pledge to donate $1000 to the school for every sale made through a North Kellyville PS parent or referral. On top of that, the person making the referral will also receive a contribution from Brett. The details are: For any sale leads that come through the school or parents connected to the school, we will donate $1,000 to the school AND $1,000 to the person that made the connection / referral. Note that the property must be listed for sale and successfully sold. here for more including an entry form. All entries are due to class teachers on or before Friday 16 August. 2020 Enrolments We are now accepting enrolments for 2020. If you know of any future students who have not yet enrolled, it would assist our organisation greatly if you could please prompt them to enrol. Being able to accurately predict student numbers ahead of times enables recruitment and procurement processes to be more streamlined and effective. When students enrol late we are less prepared. Orientation days for Kindergarten 2020 will be very early next term. Please note that students residing outside of the catchment zone, including those who live in close proximity south of the school, must complete a non-local enrolment application for their enrolment to be considered. Non-local students are not guaranteed enrolment. Only exceptional and compelling cases are considered.

2019 As you can see it is a very busy time of year! Please try to keep up to date with our communications to maximise your child’s school experience.

Calendar on the Website Another helpful feature of the school website is the community calendar which is filling up quickly. We are diligently working to make this a trusted source of information about all school events. Take a look if you haven’t already and offer any suggestions to [email protected].

Community Grant – We Need Your Vote! Thank you to the parents and friends of the school who have taken the time to vote in the MyCommunity Grant initiative. North Kellyville Public School is desperately seeking $65,000 in support to finance outdoor play equipment. Only the projects with the most votes will

be funded. Your solitary vote may be the difference between us being given $65,000 or nothing! More information can be found here including details about how to vote. The voting page is here. Term 3 Accounts Term 3 statements of account will soon be issued via email to the parent listed as ‘parent 1’ on each student’s enrolment form. The only items that will appear are any new costs this term (such as excursions) and any outstanding payments from Terms 1 and 2. I strongly encourage parents to make payment as soon as possible as the school is required to pay suppliers for resources. Years 4-6 camp and Swim School require pre-payment. Please see separate notices for details. Luke Hogan Relieving Principal 9 August 2019

Athletics Carnival All students participated in the Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 30th July. It was great to see all students in Years 2-6 having a go in the track events, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump. We are proud of the high level of participation and effort shown by all NK students. For our younger students it was a fun day of athletics and skill based activities that saw all students experience a variety of physical games. A big thank you to the teachers on the Athletics Carnival Committee for organising the day and to all the teachers who set up and supervised each activity. Thank you also to the parents who gave up their time to assist with duties on the day. Your efforts were a valuable contribution to the success of the carnival. Thank you to those who came along to support their children, some of whom participated in their very first sports carnival! Good luck to those students who will be attending the Ridges Zone Athletics Carnival. This will be held on Thursday 22nd August at Blacktown International Sports Park. Selected students will receive a note soon.

NKPS Staff Interschool Sport Competition Yesterday some of the North Kellyville Public School staff competed in the first Kellyville Community of Schools interschool sport competition. This included teams from Beaumont Hills PS, Kellyville PS, Sherwood Ridge PS, Ironbark Ridge PS and Rouse Hill PS. This was an initiative started by Tom Moth to collaborate and work closely with our neighbouring schools. This week’s sport was some not so friendly newcombe ball. The NK crew did their best but with missing team members it was an uphill battle for the whole afternoon. Unfortunately the staff came second in both their matches. We are looking forward to the next game.

Parent Workshops A huge thank you to all the parents that took part in the Mathematics workshop on Wednesday 7 August. It was a chance for parents to learn about the ways mathematics is taught to students in 2019, see activities that students are completing in the classroom and it was a great chance for parents to ask our K-2 and 3-6 staff questions. Thank you Mrs Newth, Mrs Kadian, Miss Brighton and Mr Southwell for spending your evening upskilling the parent community. Our next parent workshop is happening on Thursday 15 August at 7:30pm. This will be presented by Learning Links and will focus on speech pathology and occupational therapy and give parents an insight into helping their children with many aspects of learning. There is a registration form and more information on School Stream in the ‘alert’ folder. Make sure you take advantage of these parent workshops. SRC (Student Representative Council) The SRC had their first meeting this morning. Unfortunately not a classes 1-6 were represented at our first meeting, I’m hoping the other students can

attend next week. Today SRC representatives had a voice and discussed ways they can help in the school. First on the agenda will be getting sports equipment out to the playground at lunch time so students have more variety to play with. I’m looking forward to working with these students as the weeks go on to see the contribution they give to NKPS.

Kasey-Lea McGill Assistant Principal 9 August 2019 Chess Update North Kellyville took the chess world by storm by entering 2 chess teams into the NSW Junior Chess League. Both teams were entered into the Rookie division and comprised of students from 3-6. Teams played on Friday afternoons, travelling far and wide to compete against a wide variety of schools. Our North Kellyville A team had an up and down season to end up sitting mid table. Our North Kellyville B team went through the season undefeated, with some players never losing a single match! This meant that North Kellyville B were champions of their division, bringing home our first piece of silverware. I would like to thank all the players for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. I would also like to thank Deirdre Izci for volunteering her Friday afternoons to help transport students to our away games. We look forward to having more players try out next year.
