A Big Welcome Back From All The Staff And Children here at Turnditch CE Primary School

Even with rather chillier weather than usual for this time of year I would like to take this op-

portunity to extend a warm welcome to all our new starters and our existing families to the

first term of a new school year at Turnditch School. The children have settled extremely well

into their daily routines and there is a sense of joy and excitement to be heard coming from all

classrooms.

All of our teachers have been working hard over the summer holidays to make sure that new and

exciting activities were in place for the children when they arrived back at school on Wednes-

day. We are all eagerly commencing with newly planned activities and new topics. A recently im-

plemented curriculum review has enabled us to design and enhance even further the great provi-

sion we have here at Turnditch to meet all our children’s needs. Our curriculum is carefully de-

signed to balance academic progress with creative flair. We will endeavour fully to make sure

your children are at the very centre of everything we do here at Turnditch.

The last school year was again a very successful one with our children attaining to a very high

standard both academically and creatively. We are looking forward this year to replicating and

building on our successes whilst immersing children in a whole range of wider opportunities and

activities. We know that you as parents will continue to support us in

all of our efforts to provide our children with the very best educa-

tional experiences. We welcome this partnership and together we re-

ally can hope to achieve great things.

There are a few logistical changes this year to playground arrival and

logistics which are outlined clearly in the next few pages.

KEY CHANGE TO

ARRIVAL AT

SCHOOL

To enable us to make sure that

children are settled and ready to commence with col-

lective worship, on time, we are as of Monday going

to line children up on the playground from 8.50 am.

This will allow children to enter into the classroom

and settle for registration in a calm and orderly

manner for the allotted time of 8.55 am. This will

ensure that we are all together as a school in the

hall for 9.00 am.

Please can you help us in making sure that children

are settled and ready for this valuable social and

emotional experience by arriving at school on time.

The school door will be closed and locked from 8.55

am (In accordance with strict child protection and

safeguarding rules).

If you are late and arrive after 8.55 am please go to

the front door where Mrs Worrall will allow en-

trance.

If your child arrives after registration 8.55 am -

9.00 am please inform Mrs Worrall in the school of-

fice where she will record your child’s attendance.

After nine o’clock attendance will be recorded as

late.

Since September 2014 children in the Foundation Stage

(Reception), Year 1 and Year 2 have been provided with free

school meals. This came into force under a government initia-

tive ensuring free school meals are given to children in the

infant phase of their educational journey.

For other children school meals cost £2.10 each day. You will

find payment details for your child by logging onto your ac-

count at www.scopay.co.uk , the amount required for this

term is now available.

Any queries regarding dinner money can quickly be solved by

talking to Mrs Worrall.

TO KEEP THE COSTS AND CHARGES FOR SCHOOL AT A MINIMUM

COULD YOU ALWAYS PLEASE USE A DEBIT CARD AND NOT CREDIT

CARDS.

IMPORTANT

If you think you may be eligible to claim free school meals, it is

vital that you act on this, you can speak to Mrs Worrall even if

your child is receiving free school meals in Reception, Year 1 and

2 alternatively you could telephone ‘Call Derbyshire’

At The End Of The School Day

At the end of the school day apparatus can-

not be used on the school playground. Please

do not let your children use the equipment

both school children and siblings. We allow

children to sit on the train as there are usu-

ally staff present nearby.

The Reception playground is not to be used

by children at the end of or before the

school day as the staff set

up the following days activi-

ties at this time. Please do

not allow children into this

area.

Reception Pastoral Evening

The Reception pastoral evening will take place on Wednesday 25th September with appointments

starting from 3.30. This is a time for our new parents (or existing parents with a Reception aged

child) to come into school and chat with their children’s teachers.

This meeting is by appointment and slips will be sent out shortly

asking for your time preference

It goes without saying though that if you have any queries at all

in the meantime please come and talk to us. If you require any

clarification of events or procedures please see Mrs Worrall in

the school office. If you have questions concerning your children

please see either Mrs Barden or Miss Bunn.

Polite Reminder

If parking on Hill Close please make sure that you

do not block the driveway of any residents, as a

number of them have been prevented from travel-

ling during drop off and pick up from school times.

Please do not park on the corner of the pavement as

this blocks the view of people wishing to join the

main road (which is dangerous due to the volume of

traffic).

When parking at the village hall please remain vigi-

lant when reversing as with the best will in the

world sometimes children manage to escape the grip

of parents hands and wander into the car park unat-

tended.

Please do not park directly outside of school as do-

ing so makes it dangerous for Mrs Jeffery to carry

out her duties as a crossing attendant. It also en-

dangers the safety and lives of children if cars are

pulling out to overtake stationary parked cars out-

side of school.

High Praise Indeed

Academically, this year, the children in school have again achieved to

a very high standard in their attainment measures. The national fig-

ure for children who met an expected standard in all subjects of

reading, writing and mathematics combined, this year, stood at 64%.

Here at Turnditch CE School the figure for our children who met an expected standard in reading,

writing and mathematics combined stood at 91%. When assessed separately 91% of our children

reached an expected standard in reading, 100% reached an expected standard in mathematics and

again 91% of our children reached an expected standard in writing.

These were extremely rewarding and well deserved results for children, staff and parents. As a

school we are very proud of our children and the effort that they always give to their studies.

Turnditch and Windley Show

The Turnditch and Windley Show will take place tomorrow on fields along the Wirksworth

Road (B5023) heading from Turnditch towards Duffield.

This is the years blue ribbon event for the parish of Turnditch and Windley. The show is

quintessentially a country show with many exhibitions. To name but a few of the things that

take place there are animal shows, historical farm vehicle parades, horse trials, a dog show

and many stalls and tents to browse.

Again in the main tent the children’s work will be displayed along with a whole host of other

fabulous exhibits. Our children really do put a lot of time and effort into their show entries

with real attention given to the detail of their final pieces so please if you do have time to

visit come along and support this wonderful event .

On a personal note I will be entering ‘Old Fred’ in the dog show. There is a most handsome

dog category which I think he might have a 1st place chance in. Failing that it’s the working

dog category (where I hope he doesn't have to demonstrate his abilities).

This is always a great day out and looking at the weather (fingers crossed)

it seems set fair.

Music Lessons

Currently at school we have music lessons for piano, drums, guitar,

violin and singing. If you are interested in your child learning one of

these instruments please contact Mrs Worrall in the school office

who will contact the provider or place your name on the appropriate waiting list.

Harvest Festival

Our Harvest Festival will take place on Monday 23rd September at

2.00 pm in All Saints Church, Turnditch. Parents are very much wel-

come to attend.

Donations of food produce and baskets would be greatly appreciated

for display in the church All food stuffs and baskets from the service will be donated to the

Padley Centre Charity in Derby.

If you are the parent of a new Reception child please ask Miss Bunn or Mrs Barden if you re-

quire further information on how this service is delivered.
