    Cyclist John OBrian, a repat the Cloverdale campus,won with a time o 59 min-utes.

Marathon runner Dave Palermo was arelatively close second at 1:06.

Dead last was Ashley Fehr, who took

an hour and 19 minutes riding the bus.ransit service between the campuse

He noted Fehr just missethe connecting communitshuttle to the Langley campus when she arrived at thLangley Central bus loopand had to walk the rest othe way as a result.

Kwantlen students.Tey vote in late October on a reerendum tha

will determine whether they all must pay $30 pemonth to join the U-Pass system giving studentuniversal transit access.

Its a popular idea at colleges in Vancouver thaarent yet on U-Pass but students in Surrey and Langley have questioned whether its worth it at ransLinks current service level.

We would love a commitment or an express bubetween the Langley campus to the Cloverdale campus to the Surrey campus so students and communty members can access quick reliable transit serviceGri ths said, adding such a move would probablcement support.

As it now sits, he predicted Richmond Kwantlenstudents will vote yes, Langley students will oppose iand Surrey students will be more evenly split.

Its anyones guess what will happen, he said. Iorder or the U-Pass to come to Kwantlen, it has t

receive a majority across all the campuses.ransLink spokesman Ken Hardie said studentwill have to consider various actors when they voteincluding the comort o transit service in all weatheconditions.

Were aware that transit service south o the Frasestill needs to be beeed up and its something we wanto do when the resources are there to do it.

    away,Aug. 27Your Victoria correspondent,

om Fletcher, appears to be soldon the rhetoric coming out o ourcapitol city about the HS andthe threatened cuts to our gov-ernment services, which we allhave come to expect.

Stop there a minute, om.Personally, I have no expecta-

tions o being the now and uturerecipient o all o these so-called

services. For one thing, the cor-nucopia will soon be empty, andor another, most o the oldertaxpayers (and younger, as well)

never, ever, asked to be blessed inthis manner.

With taxes, government eesand a plethora o more-or-lesscleverly hidden o cial chargesin Canada today approaching60 percent o the average Joestake-home pay, how much longercan we aford to allow our politi-cians and our commissars to pile

taxes upon taxes? We are alreadyquickly approaching the break-ing point.

Or do you think we perhaps

should go all the way and sufertaxes at 100 percent and then waitor our ood stamps and rentalchits in the mail rom Victoria orOttawa?

Jon Ferry had an interestingpiece in the Vancouver Provinceon August 16, 2010 titled Abuseo taxpayers goes ar beyondHS. You should read it, om!

Extremely enlightening!Or have you perhaps bee

too close to the ivory towers idowntown Victoria or ar to

To the editor;Re: Double or nothing? High stakes for

Fraser Downs if tracks merge,Aug. 27Reporter Jef Nagel wrote a good article that

touches on some o the options or horse rac-ing in general, but he does not know all the

problems involved.A dual track would orce both breeds ontotraining acilities of-track. Tere are nowherenear the number o training acilities availableto train both breeds. Te cost o building sucha acility is cost-prohibitive.

Te standardbreds need to train on a yearlybasis to just get colts ready to race, let alonegetting the older ones ready to race again.

At present, we train at Fraser Downs inpreparation or the coming meet.

At present, the track, in order to acilitatethoroughbreds, would have to bemade larger, and there is not su -cient room as it is now and have a

barn area, too.Nagel also speaks o upgradesGreat Canadian Gaming Corp. hasdone to racing acilities. I would loveto see these upgrades. I train at Fraser Downs!

As to advertising, etc., we o the harness sec-tor were told the BC Lottery Corp. had takenthis over, but recently learned they have alreadyspent their budget on the thoroughbred meet.

o date, we have seen no advertising or thupcoming Fraser Downs meet even though wwill be starting Oct. 1.

Te idea o a dual track at FraseDowns is not realistic. Tese artwo separate orms o racing horse

with completely difering needs.I would also like to hear more othe recent resignation o two keB.C. racing committee members.

rust me, Mr. Nagel, you have a lot to learnI believe your heart is in the right place.

Full day kindergarten Its back to school time and, in todays skill

based economy, its more important than ever to ensure children get an early

start on their education. Thats why the Province of B.C. is implementing

full day kindergarten for more than half of all five-year olds in 2010 and for all

eligible children starting in 2011. Providing kids with an early start will give

them the skills they need to be successful in school and to be prepared

for the opportunities of the twenty-first century.
