How to schedule??

English 9English 9 Global Studies Global Studies

English 9 Academic- successful completion of 8th grade Language Arts.

English 9 College Prep. – A Minimum of 80% in 8th grade Language Arts.

English 9 Honors – A Minimum of a 90% in High Language Arts.

Global Studies Academic – Successful Completion of 8th grade Social Studies.

Global Studies College Prep. – A minimum of an 80% in 8th grade Social Studies.

Global Studies Honors – A minimum of a 90% in 8th grade Social Studies.

AP Human Geography – A Minimum grade of 94% in both Language Arts and Social Studies and the Recommendation of your Social Studies teacher.

Investigating the Earth and Its Environment (Academic)- Successful Completion of 8th grade Science.

Chemistry College Prep. – A minimum grade of an 80% in Algebra I

Chemistry Honors – A minimum of an 80% in Algebra II.

Algebra 1B – A Minimum grade of 70% in Algebra 1A.

Algebra 1 Academic – Scored below a 70% in 8th grade Algebra 1A.

Algebra 1 College Prep. – Scored below a 70% in 8th grade Algebra 1.

Geometry College Prep - A Minimum of 70% in Algebra 1.

Geometry Honors - A minimum grade of 80% in Algebra II Honors.

All Freshman Must

Take a 6 day a cycle course; Techniques in Writing.

Schedule a MINIMUM of 6 credits, MAXIMUM of 7 credits.

Be responsible to complete the summer reading assigned by your level of 8th grade English.

Graduation Requirements – Class of 2015

Minimum credit requirements: 24 credits English - 4.0 credits Social Studies - 3.0 credits* Math - 3.0 credits* Science - 3.0 credits* Technology - 0.5 credits Physical Education - 1.0 credits Health - 0.5 credits Techniques of Writing I – 0.5 credits Arts - 0.5 credits Electives - 6.0 credits *You must take a fourth year course in two of the following disciplines:

Math, Science, or Social Studies ** Strongly recommended that at least one elective is in the area of the

Arts and one elective in the area of Health and Physical Education.

Graduation Requirements (cont’d)

In addition to the credit requirements:

Students are required to attain a score of proficient or higher on the 11th grade PSSA or a district level assessment that parallels the 11th grade PSSA.

In accordance with 22 Pennsylvania Code, Chapter 4; all students must complete a “culminating project” in order to be eligible to graduate. The nature and form of this project will be determined by the school district.

Note: IEP/Special Education outcomes and requirements to graduate supersede these requirements.

Electives

Electives should be chosen after core courses are selected.

Student should add electives to a total credit count greater than 6.0 and no more than 7.0 credits.

Be sure to select alternative electives in case your 1st choice electives can not be scheduled.

Students are NOT guaranteed to receive their chosen electives, but we try very hard to make it happen.

YOUR LOCKER AND LOCKER COMBINATION WILL BE PROVIDED TO YOU THIS EVENING. MOST STUDENTS CARRY

BACKPACKS AND CHOOSE TO USE THEIR LOCKER IN THE AM, BEFORE OR AFTER LUNCH AND AT THE END OF THE DAY.

7 things you can do to ensure a successful first year of high school and beyond…..

1-Highly successful students are organized.Writing down all assignments, checking skyward everyday, using color coded folders, having a big wall calendar, using your assignment books etc…

2-Highly successful students ask questions.Learn to advocate for yourself. Asking questions will help to clarify difficult concepts and assignments.


3- Highly successful students have support.Whether it be a parent, trusted adult, or friend…successful students have someone they can turn to when they need help.

4- Highly successful students read independently.School can’t teach you everything you need to know. The most successful students read on their own.Any type of reading works!!


5-Highly successful students have fun in school.Get involved! There is more to school than class and homework. Find that club, sport or community service that peeks your interest.

6- Highly Successful students are well-mannered.Being kind and respectful will get you really far in school…… as well as life.
