Helmet & Mouth Guard
Helmet should be fitted tightly, yet com-fortably, to the head. It should not move back and forward with ease. Mouth guards are very important!! They protect your teeth, jaw, head, brain…everything!!! They must reach to the back of your teeth, you can find standard boil and bite mouth guards in any sport shop.
PADS!
All pads come in small, medium and large. Call to your local skate shop(ours is Loko on Gresham St) to try them on and find out what fits you best!
Elbow Pads - The pads velcro straps face out-ward when on the arm and should fit com-fortably but not move around.
Wrist Guards – The hardened part of the wrist guards must be
on the palm of the hand.
Knee Pads - Like the elbow pads, the velcro straps should be facing outwards and should fit comfortably but not move around.
How a left knee fall looks:
Left Knee Fall - From stride, drop the left leg behind and come down on the left knee, keeping hands off the ground. Same for the right, but opposite.
Plough Stop
Putting power into your thighs, push feet out putting pressure on the outside of your feet/skates, toes pointed inward until coming to an eventual stop.
T-Stop
Bringing the desired leg behind the other and placing all four-
wheels on the ground, apply pressure to the leg until eventual stop.
How to do a T-Stop, step by step:
Derby Stance
Keep knees bent and back straight, derby stance is crucial!
Getting Up
Keep your hands off the track. When getting up from a fall, push up on bent knee.
NEVER put your hands on the track, if you must use your hands - make a fist and push off the track. Do not leave you fingers exposed, as this could lead to finger dismem-berment.
Cross Overs
Bringing the right leg over your left, push left foot out behind, flick and repeat steps.
