French Riviera2021: Oct. TBD
French RivieraThe French Riviera is known for its glamour and beauty. From the beaches and boardwalk of Nice to casino of Monte Carlo to the maze of narrow streets and red-tile roofs of medieval Antibes, experience the best of the Riviera. See the works of Matisse,
Picasso, and Chagall. Visit the world-famous gardens of Menton. Dine seaside on the Mediterranean.
Day 2
Welcome to Nice. We will be met at the airport
by Olivier, our guide for the trip. We will transfer
to our hotel to check in and freshen up before
going for an orientation walking tour with
Olivier. The evening is yours to relax or explore
Nice.
Day 3
Today we will tour the Chagall Museum with our expert guide Olivier. Chagall and his wife donated the works – the most important collection of Chagall ever assembled.
Day 4
This morning begins in “Les Arenes de Cimiez”,the old Roman archaeological area which houses the Matisse Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the Matisse Museum as we learn about Matisse’s works from his more traditional early days to the end of his career. In the afternoon you can discover Nice independently or join us for an informal exploration of this exciting town.
Day 5
Today we take a short train ride to the principality of Monaco. Watch the changing of the guard at the 13th century Palais du Prince, home of the ruling Grimaldi family for 700 years, visit the Cathedral of Monaco and see the fascinating Jacques Cousteau Oceanographic Aquarium.
Day 6
Today our destination is the town of Antibes, a short 30-minute train ride from Nice. We will begin our tour at the Harbor of Antibes where some of Europe's largest yachts are moored, then meander through Antibes' Old Town where Picasso lived. Its old town is a maze of narrow streets and red-tile roofs rising above the sea, protected by twin medieval towers and wrapped in extensive ramparts. Tour Picasso's former home and marvel at his paintings, sketches and ceramics.
Day 7
Today we travel to the beautiful Medieval ‘perched’ village of St-Paul-de-Vence. You will have free time to explore the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, whose Medieval atmosphere has been perfectly preserved. Built on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by ramparts, it is one of the most beautiful villages in Provence with its narrow picturesque streets and magnificent stone facades. Later we will have a private visit of the Chapelle du Rosaire, regarded by Matisse himself as his "masterpiece." At the age of 77, Matisse began the greatest project of his life and spent more than 4 years working on the chapel, its architecture, its stained-glass windows, its interior furnishings, its murals, and the vestments of the priests.
Day 8
This morning we'll set out for a quick train ride to Menton, the last village before the Italian border. We’ll have a relaxing day, during which we will visit the Bastion Museum, which features the works of Jean Cocteau. We’ll break mid-day for lunch on the waterfront, followed by visits the Val Rahmeh botanical gardens and the Serre de la Madonnegardens.
Day 9
Today is yours to relax and enjoy. We can provide you with a variety of suggestions for excursions, spa treatments, shopping or just spending the day on the beach.
