Mark Your Calendars for Wednesday Night Horse Clinics
Horse Clinics will be starting again on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the
Fremont County Fairgrounds arena. Horse Superintendents, Chelsey Ander-
son and Sheryl Hanson, plan on having speakers come and talk and share their
horse knowledge with 4-H’ers.
Bronco Billy’s will be coming and giving a saddle and bit fitting , along with oth-
ers coming to help us with clipping for the show. On Wednesdays, the plan is to cover every-
thing to get “show ready.”

Summer Camp Financial Aid
The Iowa 4-H Foundation will be offering finan-cial assistance for the four state 4-H camps planned for this summer.

Waubonsie Horse Camp
The 2014 Waubonsie 4-H Horse Camp registration is open! All 4-H members, 4th through 12th grade, who can ride a horse independently, are encouraged to join the experi-ence. Clinics will involve horsemanship, reining, riding skill development and speed/roping opportunities. Sessions will challenge each camper from the beginner to the advanced senior.
The camp registration fee is $60 for the entire weekend and is due by Monday, May 19, 2014.
ALL registration documents are availa-ble on the Fremont County Extension website at: Iowa State Extension and Outreach, Fremont County or by calling 712-374-2351.
Senior 4-H members are encouraged to apply for camp counselor positions.
Counselors need to be 16-18 years old, be confident and knowledgeable riders, and willing to provide leadership to a small group of 4-H youth.
Counselor applications are due Friday, May 16, 2014.
4-H IS BASED ON RESEARCH
All 4-H and FFA market lambs and goats to be shown at the 2014 Fremont County Fair must be weighed and tagged.
The tagging and weighing will be Wednesday, April 23, 5:30—7:30 p.m.

All market lambs need to be tagged and weighed if plans are to show them at the Fremont County Fair. Remember that all sexually intact sheep and
goats must have an individual Scrapie Flock of Origin identification tag.
Members wanting to show lambs at the Iowa State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben need to contact the Extension Office for special instructions.

Summer Camp for 5-6 Grade—SW Iowa
Take a ride on the "WILD" side and mark your calendars to attend Area 4-H 5th & 6th Grade Junior Camp for Regions 12, 17 & 18,
June 8-11 at the Iowa 4-H Camping Center near Madrid, Iowa.
Experience the adventure and excitement of four days filled with 4-H camp traditions and favorite activities, including nature hikes, creek stomping, wall climbing, canoeing, camp songs, swimming, outdoor camping basics, and campfires! Learn to create cool crafts that work great as 4-H working exhibits. Bring a friend with you or make new ones! Camp will run from Sunday, June 8 at 3 p.m. until our closing ceremony starting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11.
4-H camps are open to ALL YOUTH – membership in a 4-H club is not a requirement – so bring a
friend to share the experience! Area 4-H Junior camp is open to all Region 12, 17 & 18 youth who
have completed grades 5 and 6 or the equivalent in Home Schooling will be held in Birch Vil-
lage.
The camp will be filled at 80 youth, so you will want to register early before it fills up.
Registration, Parental Permission and Request for Providing Medication at a 4-H Event form (if
your camper will be bringing any medications with them) are available from the County Extension
office or downloaded from http://www.extension.iastate.edu/
harrison/news/2014-5th-6th-grade-4-h-junior-camp in Mi-
crosoft Word and Adobe PDF format.
We will be using your medical form filled out at the beginning of
the 4-H Year during your online registration process provided to
us by your County Extension office. Please make sure you have it
updated if needed.
If you are not a current 4-H’er, you will need to fill out a Medical Info form found also at the Jr.
Camp website above or from your ISU County Extension and Outreach office.
Registration deadline is May 23. Cost for the four-day camp will be $185.00. Check with your County Extension office as most counties may have camp scholarships for 4-H’ers
or financial help if needed.

Being a counselor at the 2014 Area 4-H 5th & 6th Grade Junior Camp for Regions
12, 17 & 18, June 8-11 held at the State 4-H Camping Center in Madrid, Iowa. You just need to be a 4-H’er and age 16 or older by June 8 in time for camp.
You will need to attend the two required training sessions in late May and early June.
Counselors will head up to camp the day before campers arrive, Saturday, June 7 for a workday to finish
preparations for camp as well as get familiar with the important programming sites on the camp grounds.
Being a camp counselor is also a great leadership opportunity as you are building your resume for college
scholarships and leadership roles at school.
Fill out a counselor application from the Regions 12, 17 & 18 Jr. Camp Webpage (http://
www.extension.iastate.edu/harrison/news/2014-5th-6th-grade-4-h-junior-camp) and mail, fax or email it
to the Harrison County Extension Office by Friday, April 4th to be considered for this year’s GREAT Camp
Leadership Team.
Iowa 4-H Youth Conference June 24-26, 2014
Theme: Ticket to Success
If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend—
join the fun! You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference!
You will be having fun while learning by doing, dancing, and serving the community.
You will get to learn new things to take back to your community and school, and in the process, you
might even discover something new about yourself!
There are opportunities for you to share your talents with the rest of the delegation through small group
discussion, the Conference Chorus, and a Talent Show!
If you have a specific interest in animal science, you might want to look into becoming part of the
ROUND-UP track! We'll also have a special track devoted to agronomy, called CSI: Crops.
4-H IS BASED ON RESEARCH
CLOVER KIDS and the Fremont County Fair Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is the overarching entity that provides program regulations and guidance to 4-H and Youth development. Clover Kids is one component of this program. Clover Kid members are eligible to participate in developmentally age-appropriate opportunities at local county fairs. This regulation was established by the Clover Kids Curriculum Team at the Iowa State University Extension and Out-reach State offices.
Clover Kids Livestock Shows – held in conjunction with the species-related 4-H and FFA Shows. Open to all children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade enrolled in Fremont County 4-H by May 15th and a Fremont County Fair en-try form completed and turned into the office by July 1. Clover Kids are NOT allowed to show large animals such as swine, horses and cattle (beef and dairy). All other animals must be less than 200 pounds in order to be shown.
Clover Kids will follow the same health requirements as all 4-H and FFA shows.
Any female animal in season cannot be shown.
Clover Kids animals must come properly restrained or contained. Appropriate examples include on a leash or in a box, cage, etc. For poultry and rabbits, cages ARE NOT provided.
Stalls for goats or sheep are limited and held for 4-H and FFA participants first. In the event no stalls are available for Clover Kids, animals may be brought on the day of the show, an hour before the show begins.
Clover Kids and animals or pets must be supervised by an adult at all times. The adult is responsible for both the Clover Kid and the animal or pet.
Participants will receive a participation ribbon; no premium money will be given.
Clover Kids may show animals in the following classes. Division 4 - Meat and Dairy Goats Division 6 - Market Sheep Division 7 - Breeding Sheep Division 9 – Poultry Division 10 – Rabbits Division 11 – Dogs Division 11.1 – Cats Division 12 – Other Pets
Clover Kids Fair Showcase – Static Exhibits in the McElroy Building Open to all children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade enrolled in Fremont County 4-H by May 15th and a Fremont County Fair en-try form completed and turned into the office by July 1. Clover Kids will have the opportunity to discuss their showcase items with a caring adult or senior 4-H’er as items are entered. 1. There is no limit to the number of showcase items, with EXCEPTION of photography and the limit is 6. 2. All items must be made by the Clover Kid under adult supervision. Items may be made at home, in school, club meeting, day
care, workshop or a camp. 3. Showcase items must be entered by July 1 to the Fremont County Extension and Outreach Office on the official Clover Kid
Showcase project entry form. 4. All showcase items will receive a participation ribbon; no premium money will be given for these items. 5. All showcase items will be on display in the McElroy Building at the fairgrounds. Items may be picked up on Monday morning
of the Fair. 6. The Fremont County Extension and Outreach Office and the Fremont County Fair Board will use diligence to ensure the safety
of all items entered at the County Fair; however, we are not responsible for damage or loss by fire, theft, etc. 7. Showcase items may be in any of the following categories: Class A: Animals – Showcase items related to all types of animals. The actual animal may not be at the fair for static exhibition. Class B: Creative Arts – Showcase items related to art, photography, and music. Class C: Agriculture and Natural Resources – Showcase items related to plants, agriculture, and the environment. Notice: Due to
the risk of bringing live plants to the county fair, you will be totally responsible for the care of your plant(s) while it is at the fair. Class D: Family and Consumer Science – Showcase items related to food, clothing, or home decorating. Sewn or home-crafted
items can be included in this class. Class E: Personal Development – Showcase items related to, or created by the child, such as stories, poems, and self-discovery
ideas, etc. Class F: Science, Engineering, and Technology – Showcase items related to science, engineering, technology, or items designed and
built by the child, such as wood items. Class G: Other – Showcase items not included under any of the above classes.
