p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, September 1 and 2 at Camelot Village on the junction of
Routes 7 and 9.“The festival continues to grow by leaps and bounds,” said Joann E r e n h o u s e ,
executive director of the Bennington Chamber of Commerce, which presents the event. In a typical year, around 12,000 people attend the celebration of all things garlic.
Everything from garlic ice cream to garlic jelly, plus pick-led garlic, roasted garlic, garlic braids, and of course, garlic bulbs of every variety will be available for sampling and pur-chase. Those who arrive early can enjoy breakfast served by Peppermills of Bennington.
“We have every garlic concoc-tion you can think of,” said Erenhouse.
The event promises some-thing for everyone from garden-ers and garlic growers to garlic lovers or those simply looking for a fun way to spend a Vermont end-of-summer day. “This should be an exquisite year,” Erenhouse said. “We have 200 vendors, who use garlic and herbs in their products.” The event also includes planting demonstrations, as well as braiding and cooking demon-strations.
A beer and wine garden will offer a place to relax while lis-tening to live music from bands such as Blues Sanctuary, Invisible Jam, and the Roadhouse Rhythm & Blues Band. “It’s really conducive to making people comfortable,” Erenhouse commented. “The festival is low-key, family-ori-ented, and homey.”
The event also features many great children’s activities including a hay maze, face painting, and inflatable fun jumps.
Festival organizers ask that attendees please leave their dogs at home. No dogs will be permitted on the grounds this year due to insurance concerns.
In addition to the festival activities, all the shops in Camelot Village will be open for browsing.
Admission to the Garlic Festival is $5 per person, with a two-day pass available for $8. Children 12 and under are $1, and parking is free. For more information, contact the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce at 802-447-3311.

Washington County Farm Bureau is hosting a “Meet the Candidates” night Wednesday, September 5th to give Washington County voters a chance to get to know their future Representative in Congress. Both major party candidates, Bill Owens and Matt Doheny, are scheduled to attend and answer questions during an hour long question and answer peri-
od with the voters. While preference will be given to farm related issues, all ques-tions are welcome to be submitted by WCFB members and the public in atten-dance. This is a unique opportunity for the people of Washington County who will soon be a part of the newly redrawn 21st Congressional District that will now include all of Washington County, neigh-boring Warren County and part of
Saratoga County in addition to the North Country. WCFB will not make an endorsement in the race, but feels it is important to pro-vide the people with knowledge to make an informed choice when it comes to casting that important ballot on Election Day. The event will begin at 7pm at the Greenwich High School Auditorium, and it is open to the press and public.
